That’s when Jets fans anxious for a Plaxico Burress sighting in Green and White should mark off in their date books. It seems that’s the date of Plaxico’s next hearing in his criminal trial for shooting himself and when his lawyer will try to convince the judge and city of New York that a trial in the offseason (as in 2010) is in everyone’s best interests.
So if Burress emerges from the June 15 hearing with a trial date of mid-February or later, teams with coaches and/or General Managers on the hot seat in 2009 might be interested in a one-year rental. But if Burress ends up being faced with a September or October or November or December trial date, he’s likely to continue to be without a team.
Actually, a prompt trial date might be the best way to get Burress to take a deal. And if the prosecutor would be willing to defer jail time until after the season, Burress might go for it.
The only problem with that approach, however, is that Burress undoubtedly would end up being suspended by the Commissioner after he pleads guilty.
Regardless of the manner in which this case unfolds, we’ll all know something more after the June 15 hearing.
Headache after headache after headache. As Florio points out, Burress already turned down a deal thatw ould have had him out in time for training camp. But no, he saw what prison did to Mike Vick, and ran screaming “not guilty” in the other direction. Well, Jets fans, hopefully on June 15 we’ll have something resembling closure and we can either cross out or consider Burress’ name with authority.

If my memory serves me right, Plax had some issues with dropping the ball, but he is also hard for defenses to cover. It seems like it’d be a good signing, as long as Plax develops chemistry with the Jets’ starting QB.

I really don’t understand our fan base sometimes. How the hell would anyone want this jackass on the Jets? I would much rather he be on some other team, so I can hope the defense knocks him on his backside every play.
Like I said last year at this time with Favre: if the Jets were a win-now team, maybe. But they’re not. So why bother with someone like this?
Go away, Plax. Far.

I’m really worried about this Plax situation. It seems more and more likely that the Jets will go after him, even though he’s been a total idiot in just a 9 month span. Sure, he’s a good player, but there’s always that saying, a tiger doesn’t change his stripes. I don’t expect Plaxico to all of a sudden be a changed man. He got a new $35m contract and thanked the Giants by breaking team rules, getting suspended, shooting himself in the leg, having Drew Rosenhaus spread trade rumors, and ultimately getting cut when he got his trial postponed, further muddling his status. Just let some other team pick him up. I don’t trust any Jets WR beyond Cotchery (who’s a #2 guy, probably not a #1) but I doubt it’s worth the headache.

Sign him!!! He would make the Jets an immediate playoff contender.

i wouldn’t be surprised one bit if the jets made this move. They know they can compete, 2 of the other 3 teams in the division have big time wide receivers , and they know that if they get him they improve the play of Clemens/Sanchez.

June 15th.
Only Plax can wash away not signing bad tasting ‘freeks’ like Matt Jones and Randy Moss.

Even if he gets an off-season court date, how does anyone think they will get a quality season out of Plax? It boggles my mind that there are people out there who say “sign him immediately”, he will ruin our locker room, he’ll becoame a media circus for all the wrong reasons, he’ll bring his sh_tty attitude, and “its all about me” attitude and just screw everything up. I can’t believe Tanny and Rex would bring in such a low life, and I’m hoping they won’t.

I hope and pray he ends up in green & white for this season. He would be a bargain, provide a reason to open up the offense and help out the running game. Even though he can be a headache and a cancer, I would hope he might have learned a lesson and take my chances on an incentive laiden deal! J-E-T-S!!!!!
