News: Thomas Jones Back in Jersey

by Bassett on May 27th, 2009 at 4:27 pm

According to AP reports, Thomas Jones is back working out with the team for the first time today.

New York Jets running back Thomas Jones rejoined his teammates Wednesday after boycotting voluntary workouts while in a contract dispute.

Jones, who led the AFC with 1,312 yards rushing last season, was on the field for organized team activities after sitting out the Jets’ previous six OTAs and minicamp.

The session was closed to the media Wednesday, but Jones is expected to practice Thursday and address the media.

Good to see Jones back in the fold and working with the team, but I’m sure he’s hoping this is a prelude to a new contract. It will be interesting to see whether one gets done, especially after Rex Ryan he didn’t want to renegotiate veterans contracts in regards to Laveranues Coles.

Just one more running back to go …

Looks like the Jets won this stare down, to bad it won’t work with Leon and I’m surprised Mangold hasn’t held out, he for sure out played his current contract, he should be making Jeff Saturday type of money

Leon has no leverage either he will be in camp next month wether he likes it or not

T.J. on the move, this year or next, but no new contract, they have his replacement in Greene.

I don’t know why Jones thinks he might get released next year, there is no Salary Cap, so he would not be considered Dead weight, and I’m pretty sure he will still be solid in 2010 so, why does he think the Jets will release him, which is very illogical

thomas jones is due 6mil next season and he knows there is not a chance in hell he is going to see that money.

i knw we win all these stare downs contract wise but im worried that future free agents will think twice before signing with us.

Good, NOW GET TO WORK TJ.

  8. avatar rich says:

if theres no cap, then unless jones chews up his knee and has some season ending injury the jets will hold onto him.. if they dont feel like paying him that kind of money then trade him

  9. avatar HHH says:

DONT CARE… DEY DESERVE THERE MONEY PERIOD…….. THAT NOT A GOOD THING FOR A TEAM TO B DOING

Good news. If our offense is going anywhere this year it starts with the running game and the running game starts with TJ.

The hold outs are so ridiculous to begin with. ITS BULL. They signed and agreed to a contract, and as men, they should honor the contract in full. Thomas Jones wasnt starring anyone down after his awful first year, was he? So because he produced last year, the Jets are supposed to throw the old contract away and uprade him? I dont think so. As per what HHH was saying, they dont DESERVE anything more than what they are already being paid, thats the bottom line. If they outperform their current contracts its because they are working towards getting better ones next time, not during the current period.

    HHH
    What are U thinking…

  13. avatar RKNYC says:

I could see TJ getting a one year extension next year if he wants and splitting the difference to $3mil for the season instead of $6mil and his option for free agency the following year. I guess it all depends on how he does in `09.

I say thanks for showing up to VOLUNTARY WORKOUTS, i understand voluntary workouts is where chemistry is formed and where true teams win a super bow, so TJ if you heart is in it to win a super bowl then thanks for showing up; If you heart is in it to make some extra dough then keep holding out and wait until you required to show up

I honestly feel we should trade him before camp while the team still has leverage to get something ..
