Sitter Day Links

by Bent on May 30th, 2009 at 5:33 pm

Sorry for the late start. Corey has been called away to deal with a family issue, so he called in a sitter…me! I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing him the best. I’d better get you guys some links!

Really, Sporting News? Really? Jenkins isn’t a top 20 DT and Revis isn’t a top 5 CB. Next you’ll be telling me Leon isn’t a top 10 return man.

Eric Barton is apparently a “Mangini guy“. Meanwhile, Eric Mangini is not a very popular guy. Still, based on 2006, maybe there’s a method to his madness. Or just a madness to his method?

Congratulations, Kellen Clemens, it’s a boy…and a big one at that. 22 inches! (Although some sources had him measured at 20-and-five-eighths.)

And finally, Mark Sanchez met Prince Harry. “So, kid, what’s it like being one of the most worshipped and majestic individuals around and knowing you could one day become King?” “It’s pretty good fun, Harry.”

    I could be wrong, but I don’t think that was Sporting News’ list of centers.

    And comparing Leon to Maurice Jones-Drew is “over the top”? Seriously?

    You are slowly turning over to the dark side. You know the Mangini hate has been/is mostly Media Motivated.

    You should know that Hutch’s “sister columnist” Mary Kay Abbott are both mangini haters.

    If you read her article in the Plain Dealer (link attached) you will see that it’s all tilted against Mangini.

    Need proof? Browns fans gave 269 comments on the article that article with 90% supporting Mangini

    Bent,

    This Sporting News Top 20 list for RBs had Chris Beanie Wells listed as a top 20 back. I find this to be totally ludicris, since he hasn’t even taken an NFL snap yet. Just more of the universal Jets bias I guess.

    Bent;

    Correction: Columnist name is Mary Kay Cabot.

    Hank – Nah, I’m open-minded on Mangini. As I said a few days ago, I can’t see the logic in some of the moves he has made this off-season, but I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt because of what he achieved in his first season with the Jets.

    My comment above is just a rhetorical question and where I say he’s not popular that’s referring to Hutch’s story which cites a specific example of something he did which players didn’t like. I don’t think I’ve ever displayed “hate” towards him. Not deliberately, I can assure you.

    Mangini sounds here more like a southern sheriff, dragging around a truck full of convicts, chained at the ankle, and taking them over to his aunt’s house to have them tend to her tomato garden.

    I’m not a Mangini hater, I just don’t think he was a very good coach. I don’t believe he made good in-game adjustments. He proved too stubborn, even when an idea or plan wasn’t working. One particularly glaring problem was his insistence on implementing his new systems, despite clear evidence that he didn’t have the personnel to implement those plans successfully.

    I don’t believe his Capn. Queeg approach helped in any measurable way. And may have kept some players from simple competence. Why didn’t all those extra laps in Camp keep Anthony Clement or Adrien Clarke from jumping offsides at bad moments?

    Why was Mangini totally incapable of turning his team around from the slide they went on after the Titans game? Was it because he had no Plan B after Plan A stopped working? Or was it because he had totally lost his team? We watched him on the sideline in Nov. and Dec. — totally incapable of stopping the slide.

    We’ll have to watch and see if this is the beginning of the Browns’ No-Fun Era.

    Mike;

    Don’t sell mangini short too early. He has faults (maybe too much loyalty to Sutton and others), but you must consider there were extenuating circumstance he was under during his tenure with Tannwoody. One thing, he was an outstanding manager learning how to be an NFL coach. As he matures as a coach, he will demonstrate his abilities and make the Browns into the NE of the AFC North. Time will prove this.

    The media always gave him a bad rap but he’s been able to turn the fan base completely arround. Watch them this year and what he did with the draft. This will be Tannenbaums biggest mistake ,not giving him at least four years, and will come back to haunt him. Mark my words

    Mike;

    Call me crazy, but I’m almost willing to bet (with fair odds) that Mangini will have AS good or BETTER W/L record than DRex this year.

    I already have one side bet ( all friendly ofcourse) with Pete57 on this blog that Pennington will have a better year as a QB than Payton, thats right you heard it right, the OTHER Manning. What do you think?

  12. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

    Mangini is a football geek who has no people skills. He belongs in the front office, not being the leader of men. He is a guy that will turn an awful team mediocre by instilling fundamentals and structure but will never get a team over the hump. The Jets realized this and cut him loose. The guy dragged his whole rookie class on a 10 hour bus ride to HIS football camp in Hartford to “volunteer” then drive 10 hours back to Cleveland to suit the next day and crack heads. His whole team already cant stand him. Mangini is a good evaluator of young talent, NOT A LEADER OF MEN. Hey Hank, you’ll probably duck me yet again, but how is Mangini gonna turn the Browns into the Pats with the team Pittsburg and Baltimore have in that division? His contract runs out in four years not 10. Good luck to your boy and the Browns Hank, you’re gonna need every bit of it

    Something is very wrong with that list. You have Shaun Rogers so high yet they don’t have Kris Jenkins on the list. I seen many occasions where Rogers got blown off badly, even in a one on one. The Browns got ran on like crazy. They have one of the best depth at NG. Another thing, Canty isn’t that good, solid and dependable at most; I’m constantly saying that in one-gap scheme people’s jobs are easier.

  14. avatar Le'Sean Roberts says:

    Additionally, when Parcells drafted Canty, I believe no one was praising him in his scheme. Canty made some complaints. He’s no Richard Seymour or Ty Warren. The one-gap makes NG look superb. This is why I respect likes Jason Ferguson, Wilfork and Jenkins. For Ferguson he’s not the biggest, but one of the best ever at the position.

    FOLLOW UP:

    Remmeber that “bus ride to hell” Pulitzer prize winners Hutch and M.K. Cabot so galanly dumped on mangini for abusing those poor pampered rookies?. Well guess what? It was a complete success !!!

    Even Rex Ryan, some of his assistants and players attended Manginis camp. Do you think they also rode by bus? Here is the link:
