Dirty Harry Meets Dirty Sanchez

Think you’re the most important Jets fan? Are you third in line for the crown of England? Yeah, didn’t think so.

It appears His Royal Highness Prince Harry recently connected with Mark Sanchez, and told him he’d like to check out one of his games.

At a reception for the prince at the British consulate here the other night, a source overheard Harry tell New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez and team owner Woody Johnson, “I love American Football.” He even promised to come back to New York to attend a Jets game this fall.

Harry’s been known to say some really unwise things, but this might be one of the smartest things he’s said to date.

Perhaps Woody should send young Harry a Mark Sanchez jersey to avoid any embarassing wardrobe malfunctions- wearing certain black uniforms around NY could get you in some serious trouble.

    When Harry met Franny?

  3. avatar Lance56Mehl says:

Next season you will need to be a Prince to afford the PSL and the ticket prices at the lower level.

  4. avatar BubbyBrister/shovelpass says:

After a Touchdown, I can just hear him saying ” Well, THAT was one wicked googily !”

  5. avatar Bent says:

I hope he doesn’t insist on the players stopping for tea in the middle of the game.

  6. avatar simplysimon2 says:

PLEASE stop with the “Dirty Sanchez” nickname. It actually refers to the refuse left behind from sodomy! I don’t want our QB near that. Using that rotten name is as stupid as the “tea bag party” which really means letting one’s testicles rest on someone’s chin. Sorry kids, but this nonsense must stop.

  7. avatar James in TN says:

Actually the Royal Family comes in at a close second to West Virginia in inbreeding. Little known fact ;-).

  8. avatar Bent says:

They’ve lost first place? Aww…that’s about the only title England still held.

  9. avatar knuckle says:

STOP CALLING HIM DIRTY SANCHEZ!!!!! thats a negative label, what kind of fan or site makes fun of its own
    qb?????

  10. avatar Nick says:

I can’t believe a Jets fan actually called him Dirty Sanchez. Terrible.

  11. avatar Bent says:

I don’t see it as calling him that or making fun of Sanchez, more that it’s holding up a mirror to the media who seem desperate to use that inappropriate moniker at every turn.

“The Guy the Media Inappropriately Call Dirty Harry Meets the Guy the Media Inappropriately Call Dirty Sanchez” just wouldn’t have been as catchy of a headline.

Relax, we’re not endorsing that nickname.

  12. avatar simplysimon2 says:

I am so happy to see I’m not the only one who finds this “dirty” name objectionable. Now it’s on Bassett’s doorstep; he’s the one who came up with the lame headline. Read these comments Bassett and clean up your soiled reputation.

And Bent, don’t be so superior about the “media”. You’re one of them when you post and when you repeat, mirror, or use their crap then you’re part of the problem and not the solution to abstain from actually a racist comment. Call someone a “Dirty Jew” in NY and you better get out of town. Call Sanchez that name again and you better get off this blog!

  13. avatar Bent says:

Sorry, but I don’t consider myself part of the media. I’m just a fan who occasionally posts on his friend’s blog.

  14. avatar GT73 says:

    Jeez,

Calm the #$%* down. Who cares about some dumb goofy name? People have too much time on their hands. Can’t we all just get along?

  15. avatar BubbyBrister/shovelpass says:

Yikes! Whats next? Someone taking offense to the nickname “Gang Green” ?

    …oh wait…D’oh!

  16. avatar simplysimon2 says:

Believe it or not, Bent, blogging IS the new media. Ask all the failing news papers. So, like it or not, you are part of the media, the NEW MEDIA. Blogging is not secret and must be treated as a public statement. Stuff said at your “barbershop” is private. Get conscious.

  17. avatar Bent says:

Maybe you are right, Simon. Sometimes it is hard to grasp the scope of this blog since I’ve been here since it started. That and the fact that I have never earned a penny from writing in my entire life.

Anyway, this blog didn’t invent the name that you have taken offense to, has never used it before, will probably never use it again and if you knew Bassett, you’d know he couldn’t possibly have intended any offense with it.

  18. avatar GoFSU says:

Maybe you need to get off this blog simplysimon. What he said was not that bad, certainly not in the case of Harry. And I wouldn’t have to get out of town if I didn’t want to no matter what I said. You probably would but not me. You need to get conscious–and a clue.

  19. avatar BigKatFan says:

Who cares about the nickname. 3/4 of the U.S. doesn’t even know what it means.
a franchise can always use more celebrity fans. i welcome the Prince; on the condition that he doesn’t bring his media circus with him.

I don’t give 2 shakes for Harry or any nobility. In America, our nobility are our entertainers whether they perform on a 100 yard turf or a 50 foot screen. I don’t disrespect the performers I admire. During the days of Jim Crow, whites used the N word. Not now, at least not in public. This blog is public and should be civil. Once one has been educated about a slur, it is a civic responsibility to avoid it, unless one is a racist or simply immature.

As to not getting paid for writing, Bent, that comes with the territory of breaking new ground like the blog universe that didn’t exist 10 years ago. The guys getting paid are not 24/7 fans like us devoted amateurs.

  21. avatar Bent says:

I agree with you on that – I don’t give 2 shakes for any nobility either.

Your outrage is noted, but as I’ve already said, it’s not like that’s what we’ll always call him from now on. I doubt you’ll ever see that name on this blog again, because Bassett only used in in this example because their commonly used nicknames are similar.

We do aim to keep this blog civil and I’m sure you will recognize that our standards are a lot higher than many other blogs.

People have been calling this guy “dirty” sanchez ever since he was named the starter at USC, they even make “dirty” sanchez t shirts when he elected to declare for the NFL draft on the USC campus. I’m sure he’s used to it by now, and I’m pretty sure when Mark plays against my Bills, the pats or dolphins, that he’s gonna be hearing this name chanted every now and then.
