Daily Links: NY Metro Turning into ‘Show-Me Tri-State?’

  1. At first, Lebs article sounds a little far fetched, but I know someone who attended last week’s closed OTA, which was open to VIP guest only and said Ainge made some awesome throws.

  2. I know there are some major Ainge haters on this site (that happen to be UT fans also) but the kid is a winner. He had to live up to P Manning comparisons and the T Martin’s national title with far less talent.

He coaches spoke highly of him knowing that he took a beating and didnt turn the ball over when the offense was a mess. He will be our backup next year when Clemens leaves.

I am not saying he is a star but the kid is an NFL caliber QB.

  3. Bassett,

I assume Rex meant he will not allow Harris anywhere near the practice field …… considering there have been 4 collisions in practice already…..lol

God we need some organization in practice

  4. As to the Fifth down article…..

The franchise has been spit on and kicked around for years….even by its own fanbase. We have had some decent success the last 12 years but I keep hearing (Same Old Jets ) I love that Ryan is talking and making brash statments….. Whats going to happen? Teams are going to play harder against us? The Pats are going to beat us more than they have??

I love that Ryan is making his presence felt…..and every player on the team is buying in. Even if they have a down year . . . I know this team is going to batttle and beat up opposing teams.

Teams like the Ravens, Steelers, Eagles, Titans, Panthers etc… all talked tough before they won anything. What’s the differecne here?

  5. Good point AKA…

I mean whats the difference really. If we lose, we will still be the “same old Jets” whether we talk or not. At least now we sound like a team with character and heart. At least players are allowed to show some emotion again. Rex knows exactly what hes doing. He knows that no matter what, to be successfull in NY he has to win anyway. But part of it is also having the team and the city buy into the “legend” he wants to create. I think the most telling quote from Rex is not the kissing of the rings one (which was awesome on so many levels), but the one about how hes not here to just be a good coach or have a good season, he wants to be special. He knows that whatever Jets team breaks the 40 year curse, will have to be special and this is certainly a special start to his era.Very unique.

  6. I have flipped out on Leberfeld before and been wrong, so I will keep my personal attacks to a minimum…

Are you kidding me? Eric Ainge the starter? He has been discounted until this point because of a hurt pinky? I am so glad that I let my subscription run out.

  7. Bassett:

Great, great links. I hve been attacked several timesin the past for being a huge supporter of Eric Ainge. I have said that he has the best uside of the three Amigos ( Ainge, Clemens& Ratltif) because he displays the best pocket presence, quick release, play selection, reads defenses better, stature etc, etc. He had had an aoutstanding carrer with the Volts and I was told by a writer that has followed him since HS that he is much like DA but better upside. He is positively starting QB material.

I’ve been pulling for this guy to get a fair shot from day one and been getting ALOT of grief from the “experts” on this blog for it.

Ainge is the reason why I say This Owner and his suck-up are more Sales and PR (PSL’s, NY GIants) than Team oriented.

First Farve, then giving up Two Very Valuable Draft Picks plus three players while having THREE POTENTIONAL STARTING QB’s on your bench WAS ABSURD. I don’t care what goods we were sold by this FO or the press OR the frontrunners, waggoneer fans.Tannenbaum is NOT a talent evaluator.

When Ainge gets a full chance to prove he is very, very good the frontrunners will say it is better for us to have lots of starting QBs (only one can play at a time), but they forget how much value, and time we lost as a team by giving away drafts, players, and tons of $$$$ because we dont have a front office that is less BS, PR and Sale$ and will trully build a TEAM with our own foundation of players in a winning tradition. Like a some other teams .

  8. I always thought Ainge was a good QB. And if he is best, then he should start.

  9. BigKatFan:

I agree, but you and I know Ainge has as much chance to start as a snow ball in hell. Think about it. What is implied if Ainge outperforms Franchez AND Clemens. Think of the repercussion it will have on this front office and how their idiocy will reverbarate through the organization, the fan base and media. He’ll be traded before he starts.

  10. If Ainge proves to be somewhat of a potential starter in this league, he may fetch more than a 5th rounder that was used to acquire him.

  11. C’mon, if the guy is good, play him. Why trade talent for an unknown draft pick? Makes no sense. Let Sanchez sit and play Clemens or Ainge, whoever has the better camp and pre-season. If we are winning, we will not complain that “the next Namath” is sitting, learning from a winner. Everybody wins and then trade the #2 for at leasta #2 or a young veteran witha proven track record. We’re rich. Enjoy it.

  12. hey Leberman, can anyone say Brooks Bollinger?
Leb always likes the 3rd stringer. Ainge has no shot being the starter. Anyone can make a good throw, especially in OTA’s, that doesn’t mean the last 18months of evaluation is meaningless. If they saw something in Ainge they wouldn’t have drafted Sanchez.
