  1. Hmm good question. He has great eyes for the ball and can make plays, but his coverage is a little suspect. He can be a GREAT corner if developed properly, or a decent free safety, hes not big enough to stop the run though.

  2. I still believe Lowery is a corner. He dosent have elite speed but you could see that his game just needs seasoning and experiance to be a consistent starting corner.

He played opposite the phenom Revis while we had zero pass rush and at times ….got beat. He also made a ton of plays. He is also an above average tackler and has good ball skills.

I think he could probably play both but I see him as our starting CB in 2010…… and a good one

  3. He was above average when we had a pass rush, after week 11 he like everyone else on the D had issues. I think he is a starter, has certain unteachable intangibles.

  4. Doesn’t this discussion mean that Lowery is the ideal nickel?

  5. I have been very, very high on Lowery fro the moment we drafted him. I maintained Lowery was/is one of our dimond’s that Mangini loves to find/draft in the 4th round. When most everyone was down on this guy,
I won a bet of a New York hot dog from a street cart with E. Bolan that Lowery would be a starter. He is terrific with more than enough “game” speed.

Lowery is a better tackler, better ball hawk, better corner and will be a better all arround player than E. Reed (Ravens) now that he has better players arround him. You can write it down.

  6. Tish,

Lowery does not have the quickness to play the nickel. He was exposed there early and was never tried there again.

    HANK/NAPLES??

I am also a huge Lowery fan and have been killed for overrating him since we drafted him but……. to say that he will be better player than Ed Reed is border line insane!! Ed Reed might go down as the best safety to ever play the game. Lowery will never be that player……. EVER!

  7. wow AKA……Drew, how do you know what his career would be. This is not Clemmens we are talking about. Lowery showed he go talent and as i said before, Lowery looked bad because we had no pass rush and no LB coverage. Also when he did get beat he made a quick tackle.

  8. The one thing that bothers me about being a Jets fan (besides memories of the Bruce Coslet and Richie Kotite eras) is always having to hear Greg Buttle open his mouth and give an opinion..

    Am i alone in that?

  9. Zarlan,
revis had no pash rush and no LB coverage either…

Lowery’s speed is an issue if he can not read and react quicker. then again everyones speed is an issue if your standing there while the play is going off.
Lowery needs more experience bottom line. He has all the tools he just needs to be in a position to make plays.

  10. AKA…Drew is right
Thats like saying that Sanchez will be better than P. Manning and that Greene will be better than AP, except even more ridiculous! I like Lowey and I think he definitely has some potenetial but he is on a different planet than Reed in terms of talent. It would be nice to see him develop into a starter in the next few years but for now he will battle with Strickland for #3 CB.

  11. I am not sure where I am off base here saying that Lowery is not going to be Ed Reed. Dylan makes great comparisons.

The kid has an up and down year and now he will become Ed Reed. Do you gusy realize how freakish Ed Reed is? If you tell me that Kerry Rhodes has a chance to be as good I wouldnt call you crazy but Lowery? Come on now.

I like Lowery alot at CB but he will never be Ed Reed…..and to say he will be is just ridiculous!

  12. i just like Lowry and your prob right but im saying your giving him absolutly no chance and the guy can make plays even though his coverage skill are low.he can get beat for 7 td and get 10 int .

  13. AKA:

Ok, Ok, I can see why you would get blown away by my comment. Ed Reed IS a tremendous football player. Possibly one of the greatest safeties to ever play the game. BUT, you must look at this from a complete perpective of when and how. Last year, Lowery’s FIRST, he was tossed arround and yanked arround, and left out there to swim by himself in a very, very poor pass D with no supporting cast. Revis on the other side, made matters exponentialy worse. He still had a tremendous year (compare his stats to premier DB and they shine) under very, very difficult conditions, in a very difficult system.

Reed, on the other hand, Is seven yers in under Rex Ryan, in a tremendous system, with a great cast arround him, and the master of his universe. Rex sets his players to ALLWAYS play to their strength, sets up plays so they can shine, just for each one of them !!

Look, i’m not taking anything away from Reed’s accomplishments (ie. records) but I am saying that Lowery with the right system, with the right cast and allowed to be the master of his own universe, has the talent, skills, football intelligence to be better than Reed . Ryan will fall completely in love with this guy once he sees first hand his football accumen.

  14. Hank,

I’ve no idea if Dwight can even be close to Ed Reed, but it’s great to see you post a positive opinion.

So I’m with you buddy. Ed Reed look out! Here comes Lowery!

  15. StvDoe;

I must be in a coma. Thanks
