Jets Sign LB Craig Kobel Waive Two
Jets signed LB Craig Kobel a free agent and cut LB Nate Harris and DL Brian Schaefering.
Kobel played DE collegiately at South Florida, and tied Kawika Mitchell’s single season record for most tackles for loss in 2003. Since then he’s bounced around via a cup of coffee with the Bucs, Eagles and NFL Europa, and then arena teams like the Utah Blaze and Philadelphia Soul.
At 6-3, 255 lbs. he’s a good size to play inside, but he might be hard pressed with guys like Cummings, Murrell, Trusnik and Westermann ahead of him. I for one really like the depth the Jets have at linebacker … I think this could be a big strength for the team. Sadly though with Ryan’s more hydridized 3-4 than even Mangini’s there won’t be as many linebackers carried on the roster. The good news though is that it means that the depth players who make it, will be all the better in terms of contributing to this unit.

What’s interesting here is that with Ellis, Jenkins and Douglas it can be hard to identify the alignment; they don’t have to give it away. I mean you have Jenkins at NG and Douglas opposite him. Douglas can be at an end position as a one-gap or a 3-technique between the tackle and guard. Jenkins can one-gap making it easier for him. Ellis can do the same as Trevor Price also (play DE and DT). It’s just a matter of the linebackers adjusting according; then you have the Harris and Scott is issue.
I think our depth on defense is fine overall.
Our Depth on offense is another story. Outside of RB we got zero depth at WR,TE,O-line,FB
I gotta say, this is very same ol’ Jets like. We’re sitting here holding 31 year old plax’s gatorade while all the other units are coming together. Dignity people.
Murrel plays outside.
this guy is awsome..he looks like a really good player of football
