If you're a Jets season ticketholder you've got (voice)mail! Rex Ryan
left a message for fans to let them know that he wants you to be the
team's twelfth man.
"I think the style of play .. [and] the
passion that we're gonna play with, you're gonna be proud to be a Jets
fan," said Coach Ryan. "Our guys are working hard and I promise you
this is gonna be an exciting year."
The point of course is to get you cheering, Ryan said. "We want to
make the Meadowlands a miserable place for our opponents to play
in."
Thanks to The Ed(itor) and @e_man for sending this on.

LOL, that was hilarious!!! I thought it was going to be an attempt to sell more PSL’s, but it came off as an actual voicemail from Rex Ryan. It clearly wasn’t edited or polished up in anyway. Just Rex Ryan calling to make sure you make as much noise as possible when the Jets are playing defense.
-
Man, I can’t wait for the season to start! Gonna be so much fun!!
-
Much better than Mangini’s version — he just called in the middle of the night, breathed heavily for a few seconds, and then hung up. Creepy.
-
While this is clearly a sales pitch (and a good one at that), there is a sincere pledge from Ryan. The one thing I could never figure out is why are our home games so quiet? Our fans are nowhere near as loud as places like Oakland, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Seattle, just to name a few. Sure we get loud on 3rd downs and in the red zone, but these other stadiums are rocking from kickoff to the final buzzer.
We have never been the 12th man and it’s time we do so…
-
Co-sign everything Jamie said.
The silence in the stadium makes it feel like more of a movie theater than a football game. There’s no reason for Fireman Ed to be the only reason we’re prompted to get loud.
-
mangini’s would’ve made the following inspiring pitch:
good afternoon. we appreciate your sound support from week to week, because our approach is the same from week to week, in all 3 phases, and no game is more important than any other, and our approach and technique are the same, regardless of outcome. [deep nasal inhale with bug eyes]
ferdie pacheco used to say that winning is better than losing, but that preparation is the same, day in and day out.
with that, i’ll open up to questions. -
I hope the Meadowlands could be like the Oakland stadium! Just the thought of having our own version of the black hole just sends chills down by spine!
I could just see it now….. The “War Paint”, the “Death Masks”, and “Loud Angry Fans”…. Oh the Joy!!!!
-
Gotta love Rexie. Team may go down burning in flames at times during hte year, but it won’t be for lack of aggressiveness or effort. An attacking “D” is the best way to get the crowd fired up, so I think the decibel level will be higher for Jets games this year. An attacking D will give the crowd someone to root for, and expect dramatic things.
-
Lets take it seriously and make sure we have that stadium rocking every sunday were home. If the opposing offense cant here it is a real help.
-
raider games are not cool. i mean if you like local gangs hanging around and fans that might punch you in the face if you root for the other team, then it would be cool,
but anyway, rex ryan is just great. he has the making of a great coach
-
Why this call for support so early in June ? How many fans will remember this e-mail 3-4 months from now?
Gotta love Rex……. he is SOME salesman !!
-
Hank, you are correct. It’s early… But I promise something… I’ll remember the call for 60 mins of noise every home game when the season starts.
Hell, I’ll put in my outlook as a reminder!!
But seriously guys, we are a team from New York. I live 15 mins away from Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, and these Raven fans are passionate. Jets fans are too… Unfortunately we seem to lose the passion where it counts… IN OUR SEATS DURING GAMES.
Unfortunately my call for action is only touching a select few, but we need to do something.
Who’s with me?!!?
-
Yea, I notice at games sometimes it could be louder. Maybe Rex will help get the stadium rocking.
-
Jamie;
I understand your passion, but Jets fans have been given more “lip” service than good football the last century or so. We always expect the worse !!
It all starts with the FO and ends with good consistent WINNING football if we are to change our culture !!!
-
When the Jets are good and the stadium is packed with Jets fans, it’s loud. We are, however, only a couple of years removed from the quietest year since 1996: 2007. No doubt that 2007 was a quiet year. I chalked it up to 2 things: disappointing team and no Fireman Ed. Love him or hate him, the fans rely upon him to lead the J-E-T-S cheers. Also, when the stadium is packed, I love the announcement of the opposing team’s players: Announcer: “Defensive End, Jason Taylor.” Crowd: “SUCKS!!!” Taylor commented on how he hated to walk in the stadium, so maybe it’s more intimidating than some of you folks think.
-
Finally, rex’s challenge should speak to every jet fan that goes to the games! Every game I go to every year I’m trying to get everyone off their feet and screaming (even on third down the crowd is quite sometimes) Hopefully from now on things can be different.
We need to be on our feet loud the whole time the defense is on the field. It really pisses me off how most fans are just not as passionate come game time and even have the nerve to tell me “down in front”. Well from hear on out it is the rex ryan era and I say if you don’t like standing and watching the games then don’t show up to the stsadium because well be rocking from the opening kick off to the final wistles.
And if you think you will be sitting at anytime during the home opener against the pats, you are sadly mistaken because the crowd better not even sit so the person behind you can pound the back of your seat to make some noise. Prepare to loose your voice on september 21st! -
sack dance is right. It has everything to do with what’s happening on the field.
I go to every game, and I’ve been to Philly, Teaxas and Lambeau to see the JETS. We are as loud as anybody when the game is exciting or it’s an important moment.
Lambeau was silent when the JETS went in there and kicked them around a couple of years ago. -
Love this guy! and will support him and the Team!!!!
-
Bent,
Let’s give credit where credit is due bud…
It was I who started this call for action a few posts prior to Hank!!
Let it be noted!!
HAHA… Seriously though, we need to repeat this in September.
Especially because where I live, they feel Rex and his now former Ravens, fail in NY. I’m in the heart of Raven Nation and I can’t tell you how annoying it is…
-
Bent:
Thank you for the honorable mention. A greater impact than TJB readers will be (I think) if you get a copy of Rex’s mailing list and resend it on Sept. 20th. Now that will be someting !!
-
Bent:
That’s why I said (I think)
-
I just want a loud stadium. No matter what the score is either way.
-
I love what Tom T said…Home opener against the pats, the last chance to win one at home in the old stadium against em… gotta be ready to go… no reason to sit, or be quiet, or any of that… if we can be loud as ever it will change the complexion of our home sundays
-
Funny, I don’t see a guy spending $60,000 for PSL’s going to yell and scream or show up when it rains or the temp. drop to 30 degrees. I love the idea of what Ryan is attempting but I will have to yell from my living room.
-
Whenever I’m at home games I stand up for the entire game. People costantly yell at me to sit down, and I turn around to them and yell at them to stand up. Every single person should be standing up and being as loud as possible for all 4 quarters. It will go a long way
-
wow. i don’t know about you guys but after hearing this i wish i could be at every game. i only get tickets to one game a year and i just hope all the fans who have season tickets are jacked up on this. i cant wait, and i know the players cant wait when they hear the loudest J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS chant ever.
-
I’m with Bent and John R,
Oakland stadium looks like Shawshank Redemption, Nothing, but cement slab, barbed wire and low lifes.
Al Davis’ Commitment to Squaller is unmatched! That said, we’ll still be tailgating again this year, so swing by.
Dean

BTW if you enter your email address and pin number on the jets site anyone on the waiting list can buy season tickets for 2009 regardless of your place on the list, that shows how many people gave up their tickets this year.
