Plax Is Looking South

If the Jets are moving on from Plaxico, it seems like he is as well, even though there’s now news that he might get a suspension. According to the St. Pete Times, Plax has contacted some players on the Bucs to get more info on the team. The Bucs have also said to have had some interest in Marvin Harrison, former Colts WR.

  1. i guess we are going to see alot of 8 in the BOX this season, why we don’t give him a 1 yr deal is beyond me but our offense is going to be predictable.

  2. good news for the jets! i dont care what anyone else says….

  3. what about Matt Jones? he is also 6′6” WR. we have not heard about him for a while.

  4. and for everyone who thinks plax is gonna sign a one year deal..
    PLEASE.
he just gonna get a backloaded multi year contact with lots of incentives on the frontload.
stop comparing plax to TO, plax is a much higher demand than TO.

  5. except that TO is not facing felony criminal charges

  6. If Stallworth only got thirty days for DUI manslaughter, I doubt Plax is going to get any time for nicking his own leg. I guess in Plax’s case, there is no family to pay off, so who knows. Doesn’t seem right, though.

  7. NY and Florida are different states, Plax had an unregistered gun as well.

Besides, both guys will be suspended for alot of games, so the value for Plax is diminished.

  8. Sorry, greene, but I think a one year deal is the most likely outcome. In fact it’s the only outcome I can foresee if he’s to become a Jet. Then if he’s a success (and stays out of jail) they will worry about a longer term extension.

“lots on incentives on the frontload” sounds like a good idea, but unfortunately there are different rules in 2009 whereby ALL 2009 incentives count against the cap whether likely to be earned or not, so this strategy doesn’t help teams trying to fit him in under the cap as much as in any other year.

I could see him signing a two year deal which is in essence only a one year deal because the team has no intention of retaining him in year two, but wants to spread the guaranteed money over two years though.

  9. exactly Cabras…two different states and that is important considering NY has strict gun laws, especially w/ an unregistered gun.
Stallworth is a weird case…im not defending what he did, but his actions after the hit were paramount in his plea deal. 30 days in jail. 2 years house arrest, 8 years probation after that, plus lifetime suspended license…not to mention who knows how much he paid the family. I have no idea what kind of person he is, but he took full responsibilty.

  10. I know he lives and likes to train in Florida. I would make a run at him and see what happens. He totally changes an offense.

He’ll get a nice 1 year deal and then he will pray he dosent get any jail time next summer.

No team is going to give him a multi yr deal with a jail sentence in play next year

  11. How about my associate Bruno? He’s 6′8” and knows how to knock some sense into Tannenbaum, Woody, Rex and Company!

I mean, you can’t tell us fans to get excited about this team when Plax is flying south for the winter (Tampa Bay) and we’ve got a huge hole at receiver and an unproven quarterback.

Is Bart Scott gonna play both ways?

I the loser of the QB competition gonna join Brad Smith as a receiver?

The fact of the matter is we have no legit #1 wideout!

Asside from TE Dustin Keller, our existing roster consists of role players, not playmakers.

Cotchery is a #2 possesion receiver.

    Stucky is a slot receiver.

    Clowney is a speedster.

Brad Smith is a declawed ‘wildact’ eating Pur-ina Cat Chow from a bowl in Mangini’s living room. Can’t get open on sunny day!

If Jets Brass won’t, don’t go after Plaxico under these circumstances. Then, why should us fans believe in them or this team under any circumstances?

Obviously, they are content with a mediocre tallent and a mediocre team.

I am not a mediocre fan. Get your S-T-U-F-F together or get out – sanctimonious punks!

You can got to church on Sundays. I’ll be at the game watching the Jets that need Plax desperately!

Just ask young Eli and Roethlisberger!

  12. Plax’s best chance of both not facing jail time and not being suspended is to be a Jet. Already, the NY Post’s Andrea Peyser (no friend of star athletes) is reporting that the Manhattan DA’s office is split on whether to let Plax plead out, without jail time!

Now, add in that Woody and Bloomie are tight, one of Goodell’s first jobs was as an intern with the Jets and Woody is one of the most influential owners and you have a perfect storm of politics and self-interest. Rosenhaus knows all of this and I have to believe that he is dying for the Jets to step up to the plate. If Plax signs with the Bucs, on the other hand, he better pack his toothbrush the next time he sets foot in Supreme Court.

  13. Dean Barbella, my sentiments exactly. Honestly, I really don’t understand the thinking out there about Plaxico not being able to help the jets in a big way. On arrival, there would be studs on both side of the ball, and attitude to go along with it, which hasn’t been seen on the Jets, since I don’t know when. Remenber, No Identity?

If Plaxico clears the hurdle in front of him and is allowed to play, even for one year, the Jets organization has to make a play for him. Makes me sick just discussing some of the names being bantered back and forth on this blog as a possible replacement for Coles.

Say what some of you want, Plaxico is a proven commodity, a Champ, who would only help in the development of whom ever is under center next season.

  14. Gotta get him… end of story. Just keep repeating that offense to yourself when it includes Plax. We would a great o-line, 3 good rbs, cotchery, stucky in the slot, the beast that is Keller, AND PLAX. I mean… it speaks for itself. We wouldnt need to trade, we wouldnt need to mortgage our rookie QBs future with tiny unproven WRs. Its a no brainer. Rex wants it, mangement wants it and as Sackdance so awesomely showed us, Drew Rosenhous wants it. Its in Plax’s best interest to play for the Jets. You can sort of think of it as the same type of RENT-A-RECIEVER strategy that the Bills implemented with TO, except we would get a better proven commodity for cheaper. NO BRAINER. Plax over any other option…

  15. WORD, MSM!

  16. Ugh. I’m so reluctant to buy into it, but having Plax would make for one hell of an offense. He’d want to show up TO in Buffalo and Moss in New England. It’s really a great opportunity for him to show the league that he can be a top flight receiver. And if he starts hurting the team, cut him. He’s the one that has to prove the world wrong — maybe he’d fit in around here.

  17. So there’s this big bright pink elephant in the room with “Rebuilding Year: 2009″ written on its side. Anyone know anything about this? I hadn’t seen it until recently because of the green and white quilt that was covering it.

  18. Plax as a Jet. The Jolly Green Ex-Giant. If Rex can get him to practice and he becomes a solid citizen (longshot), I would love this. Plax was a major factor in Eli’s development. Without him, the Giants are a different team. Plax is exactly what the doctor ordered.

  19. Jets 4-12 at best with fat coach and baywatch qb….

  20. 5 to 1 carlito is a dolphin fan ( who gets beat up by fat people)

  21. Well, he IS posting from Florida…

Off topic – remember how we were discussing the fact that Sanchez’ contract should have no effect whatsoever on the contracts for the rest of the top ten picks? Well, a certain Mr. Keels obviously doesn’t feel that way:

“Guess I will continue looking over this Mark Sanchez deal. He’s making some really good money and my client was picked right after him! $$$” – 10:08 PM Jun 12th from web

So that’s a certain holdout for Andre Smith then. If Keels thinks Smith is going to get anywhere close to Sanchez’ 28m guaranteed, he’s sorely mistaken. He should get 20-21m like last year’s number six pick, Vernon Gholston.

I hope this doesn’t affect his mood in terms of the ongoing Leon negotiations.

  22. Why do people Twitter that kind of information? Keels is a boob.

  23. as far as plax is concerned i dnt c y we dnt give him a shot literally lol i mean the guys one of the most dynamic football players cross leon washington imagine both those guys working together UNSTOPABLE as for the naysayers i say wait and c wat happens if not call the broncos ask wtf the deal is with brandon marshall we need one more receiver cotchery cant do it by himself
