Former Jets Who Were Drafted to the UFL

schelgel.jpgThe UFL has released the results of their draft and who’s on what teams. From a quick look at the list, here are some players that played for the Jets at one point or another.

WR LARRY BRACKINS (PEARL RIVER CC) — The large target (6-4, 220) was signed for a quick cup of coffee with the team during last summer’s training camp, but was cut Aug. 30th.

QB BROOKS BOLLINGER (WISCONSIN) — Bollinger was the guy that even we, wanted to see in 2005 when we realized that Vinny Testaverde wasn’t doing us any favors by coming back off his couch. Bollinger did look good with a 327 yard performance against Miami on 12/18/05, but then threw for just 253 yards in the next two games (NE & BUF). Although he participated in the QB battle in 2006, he was traded that summer to the Vikings for CJ Mosely and a draft pick. Best. Trade. Ever. Since then he was signed by the Cowboys and then cut.

DB OLIVER CELESTIN, (TEXAS SOUTHERN) — Celestin was an UDFA for the Jets in 2004, and played in 33 games and had 44 tackles in his time with the team. The emergence of Kerry Rhodes in 2005 made that year his last season with the team. After Hurricane Katrina, Celestin took in six members of his family to house them.

LB ANTHONY SCHLEGEL (OHIO STATE) — Seen in the picture above, that was the most he ever carried anything on the team. The boar-hunting, tough as nails OSU linebacker was the bellweather of Mangini’s first draft class. Mangini fell in love with Schlegel in 2006 while watching tape of AJ Hawk (picked right after D’Brick) and burned a third round draft pick on him well earlier than any other team would have picked the player. Besides one special teams hit on ESPN’s “Jacked Up” in his rookie year, Schlegel did nothing on the field for the team and became a joke to many fans.

Take a look at the list of teams and see if there’s anyone I’ve forgotten.
