Will Authorities Look for Jimmy Hoffa Under the Meadowlands?
With the demolition of the Gianta and Jets stadium, a reporter at the Philadelphia Inquirer has posed an interesting question that has been part of the Meadowlands mythos for 20 years.
… will the authorities check for the remains of the Hoffa, the legendary Teamsters boss, last seen alive in Detroit in July 1975?
Apparently not.
The FBI officially punted that idea back in 1989.
“Never say never, but it is a remote possibility he is buried there,” said Special Agent Hal Helterhoff then, after the investigation failed to find “any substantiation.”
The teardown changes nothing, said Special Agent Bryan Travers yesterday.
“If there was some credible information, we wouldn’t wait until the stadium was being demolished,” he said. “We would go in there and aggressively look for it.”
Ah well, I guess the Legend of Jimmy Hoffa will remain clouded in mystery, the domain of a certain Robert Stack show on NBC from the 80s. My hope is that when the Jets move to a new stadium, the lack of a certain teamster leader’s body will provide some better juju for the Jets.

Two seasons ago the Myth Busters team used some high tech gear that scanned and penetrated concrete. They walked the entire place from bleachers; field, to the belly of the stadium. It was a really cool episode but they never found anything. There was only one area that they couldn’t check and that was the foundation under the ground. Who knows, but if they ever dig that far down during the demolition, then and only then might we find out.
