Daily Links: That Time Of the Summer
Happy you folks joined me for another weekend in the duldrums of summer reporting. I’ll be taking next weekend off for a buddy’s wedding and various concurring events, so I’ll see you all again in 2 weeks. Peace out, homes.
- Yahoo’s Shutdown Corner guages the Jets’ progress to this point.
- Mike Florio has his best and worst of the offseason and needless to say, I don’t agree with No. 1 on the best list.
- Not sure if you all heard this before, but Rex is Buddy Ryan’s son.
- The Browns press corps is starting to get sick of Mangini’s secrecy routine. Think they’ll run him out of town as quickly they did Belichick?
- If you live in Tennessee and you’ve always wanted to be in the “Are you ready for some football?” montage, then this link is for you.
PSA for you folks out there in “tip land”. If you ever have something you want to send me for the weekend, hit me at TJBWeekends@gmail.com.

Because Florio is ridiculous. He blames the Jets for Bill Cowher not wanting to coach. He says that Mr. T wouldn’t give up power, when he publicly stated that he would give up some of his control if it was the best thing for the team, which at the time was in the process of trying to hire Cowher.
He could have lumped all of the Jets offseason signings into a “Jets Revamping the D-Fense” section. Or “The Jets raiding the Raven’s roster” would have been good as well. This guy seems to rarely give the Jets credit for anything. He’s an idiot.

Agree 100% Jimmy. Florio is annoying and disrespectful to jet fans. I urge Corey, Bassett, and the other bloggers to stop giving this guy attention on a jets website.

Florio just hates the Jets. The Jets and Jets fans are easy targets for the national media. We fans are thin-skinned and the perception of the Jets as a “snakebit” or “jinxed” franchise just makes it way too easy to take pot shots. Coles on Cincy…it was a good move for Cincy. They lost Housh, Coles is a gamer, and he lends some leadership (and good knowledge of the rival Browns’ HC). As for getting Cowher, that was a business decision the Jets didn’t want to take. As for PSL sales, I don’t think there are many HC’s out there who could’ve created greater enthusiasm in the fan base than Rex. Not getting Cowher, to the extent he could’ve been hired, is pure, rank speculation that has no grounding in fact. The Coles opinion, on the other hand, makes sense.

Florio is no good for anything but a laugh. My favorite posts are the ones that are “updated” to let everyone know that ESPN caught onto the story only AFTER PFT…or they’re just wrong altogether. Gee, jealous/bitter much? Or how about those Palm Pre updates? Very classy.
I can’t complain too much, since I visit the sight frequently enough…certainly enough to know that he has an enormous bias against the Jets, regardless of what he says. I mean seriously, both the Best and Worst lists (in “no particular order”) begin with Jets related news: the Best move obviously deals with another team grabbing an ex-Jets, and the Worst is not hiring a guy who didn’t want to coach. Yeah, terrible move there. The last thing I want is the Head Coach version of Brett Favre: totally talented, but old and semi-retired and not interested in the Jets at all.
He’s obnoxious, totally pretentious, and biased beyond belief (in more ways that just Jets material).

Florio is ridiculous, and has a real thing for the Jets. Even though we would prefer they weren’t, the Jets are a snakebit franchise that has whiffed in the offseason many times and has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory more than once. We all know it. There have been some bright spots (’98) only to be followed by mass chaos and defeat.
That not getting Cowher is the number one bad move of the offseason is just stupid. I would ask Florio which Superbowl winning coach has won a second superbowl with another team? The answer? NONE. I love Cowher, having lived in the ‘Burgh for some time and watched him turn the franchise around, but while I think that he would have been a Mangini upgrade, he was not the answer for the Jets.
Our Team was in need of a culture change, and we got that in Rex.
I agree with Coles being a top move…he is still not a number one WR though…and we still need a number one.

As for the Cleveland secrecy story link, it’s possible to say:
The secrecy is intended for one thing — so that you find out that Mangini has nothing to bring to the table in late November rather than late July.
It’s just easier for him that way.

How isn’t iring hrex ryan in the best offseason moves.
How isn’t firing mangini in the best offseason moves.
