benjam - no, don't worry, I wasn't offended at all, it just amused me that you addressed that comment to one of the few people it didn't apply to!

It's interesting to compare the two, I guess. It seems like a greater proportion of Americans take an interest in politics and actually know details about policies etc (although I guess in some instances you may not consider that as demonstrating knowledge if it led them to a political conclusion you disagreed with). The greater percentage of English people take no interest in politics whatsoever and then just vote based on who the newspapers tell them to.

Maybe that's just me being cynical though.

i hope you werent offended by my thinking that we were all yanks. i was merely offering up a small platitude in an attempt to head off a recapitulation of the bush years. it obviously didnt work.

i'm amazed that you think americans are more knowledgeable than brits when it comes to politics. that certainly isnt my experience, but you would know better than i do.

on this side of the pond, we rarely suffer from incurable civility. that's for sure.

Dan,

Bush had eight years. He deserves to be bashed. He had no redeeming qualities. He was a moron. He left this country in the toilet. Iraq was his baby. The Democratic Congress was only for the last two years of his administration and, by then, most of the damage was done. Whatever good Congress could have done was threatened by a Bush veto. They had to wait for a Democtatic President, to try to get anything done. Bush will go down as one of the worst presidents in history.

As for my crack about the bar. I have to apologize, it was Tennessee that just passed a bill to allow guns in bars.

Wow, Joe B, I woulda thought you dropped off from talking to me. Bue here you raise your very ugly head to take another shot at me. But that's okay. You're right Joe B. And I'm proud of my dual fandom. I play by my own rules. And since I have more than a junior high school education, I'm comfortable rolling with them. ;-)

I can only assume that once the season starts, this controversy will disappear...

However, it's up to Feely to make EVERY kick pure and true -- or else we'll be back fighting over the deep-seeded meanings of his "missing LEFT" or his "missing RIGHT"!!

Then, everyone can go back and have at it... :-)

Bent,

Nope. I was trying to get you to admit to dual fandom. But if you hate the entire UK, than I guess I have no grounds.

DSmizzle,

I really don't think that the protesters have any single source of inspiration. If the theocracy falls, the causes will be the subject of history books for centuries. I think Obama might be a more indirect cause than you do, but at this point it's all speculation.

DSmizzle: "I think any opposition to the way Obama has handled things right now is purely political."

Surely you can't really believe that? It's thoughts like that lead to dictatorships in the first place. You should question everything that your government does, at all times. If you find that you agree with it, fine, otherwise, act. The people in Iran certainly are.
