Rating the Backfield
GGN has decided that this week they would rate the divisions “loaded backfields.” And guess who is number one? Yeah, New England.
1. New York Jets
By just about any measure, the Jets have the top backfield in the division.
2. Buffalo Bills
3. Miami Dolphins
4. New England Patriots
Jets being first on the list came as no surprise, despite T.J.’s age, he still was able to output high totals last season and even earned a Pro Bowl apperance along with it.
Leon Washington is said to have not completely broken out just yet but is already a problem for opposing defenses. Shonn Greene was added “in case this was not enough depth,” well let me tell you what it’s enough now, “Schott” has some many backs to use, that its going to make our heads spin.
The team of [Marshawn] Lynch, [Fred] Jackson and [Dominic] Rhodes will surely be one of the brighter sports on the Buffalo Bills offense this season. Meanwhile in Miami Ronnie Brown is a outstanding back when he is healthy, Ricky Williams doesn’t have much “behind him” with all the troubles he has gone through. John also brings up an interesting point about using Pat White but figures that White will be utilized as a QB or WR.
Praise rains upon Kevin Faulk for being a good “recieving threat” for New England but as far as Maroney goes he is very ineffective at this point and after being injured for most of the 08′ season his value seems to have plummeted even more. Fred Taylor didn’t do much this past season in Jacksonville which poses the question what can he do? [Hurt the backfield more?] The Patriots got some relief from Sammy Morris but otherwise have nothing of great value in the backfield.

Of course, SI rated the Jets backfield as 8th worst in the league, although their definition of backfield includes the QB position:

This is nuts… Ronnie Brown and Marshawn Lynch are both better than any back on the Jets roster. The Jets have solid depth, but Jones is average, the rookie is unproven, and Washington is not an everydown back no matter what his agent thinks.
as a Pats fan I can honestly say the Pats do have teh worst backfield crew, but I say the rankings go Fins, Bills, jets, Pats.
Without a proven QB at the helm, Jets runnign game will suffer as well

This is more of a reason to PAY TJ his fair $$$$$$ ( insert team value).
We are #1 ONLY beacause of TJ. He needs to be here AND happy this year.
