Daily Links: 78 Days to go…

Leaving no stone unturned, here’s what I came up with for your linking pleasure this fine summer’s day (well, it is here, anyway…)

- USA Today approaches the issue of Rex Ryans’s dyslexia with class and admiration.

- KSK, however, takes a slightly different approach. (Warning: Poor taste alert…)

Scout.com asks which veterans are on the bubble in the AFC East. In case you aren’t a subscriber, here’s the bit you’re interested in (and you’ve gotta believe he’s already got a “BuyItNow!” price of a seventh round pick):

CB Drew Coleman. He was a little inconsistent in the spring, and that has also been the case over his first few years in the league. If he doesn’t become more consistent this summer, he could be a camp casualty. He has great speed and athletic ability, but needs to put it all together now. But if he is cut, he probably would be picked up by Eric Mangini in Cleveland, who drafted him.

- Catching up with Brooks “Minute Bol” Bollinger as he heads to the UFL.

- And finally….Must read article from Bleacher Report about how overrated the Jets defense is. And maybe he’s right in some respects, but it’s still a fun read. I like how he describes Marques Douglas as “comical”. (By the way, please vote in his poll, which asks “Are the Jets a Top Five defense?” – Yes is currently winning…)

  1. I read that bleacher report. I didn’t like how he just ignored Lito Sheppard on the secondary part and The Title turned me off from the beginning.
The authore can’t even judge he is calling them overrated before they even played a down. I am just getting sick of my teams getting attacked.

  2. I wonder if he realizes he rated our Lb’s fifthe best?

  3. 78 Days and still no #1 wide receiver?

Somebody, Anybody, Everybody get #17 (Plaxico) into a geen and white jersey!!!

  4. The guy who wrote the Jets overrated defense article’s an absolute clown.

Describing Kerry Rhodes as “solid but more talk than anything” just about did it for me. When you play as well as Kerry Rhodes has the last three years(especially the two before this year) and you go as unrecognized as he does, you deserve to say whatever the hell you want.

And no one’s calling Marques Douglas a rising star. All he is is the “Rex Ryan equivalent” to Kenyon Coleman in this scheme, and that’s good enough when you’re playing next to one of the most dominant interior players in the league.

  5. On a totally unrelated note, will there be a fifth inductee to the TJB HOF?

  6. No need to get upset about the Bleacher Report “article.” Bleacher Report is not a website for journalism as much as a forum where literally anyone can write their opinions about anything, no matter how crazy or baseless they are. This article was probably written by a 10 year old kid.

  7. Wow, KSK- Totally offensive. Not surprised.

  8. Stopped reading when he started judging the D-Linemen by sacks (and considered 8 sacks by a 3-4 DE nothing more than “solid”)

  9. well it looks like plax will not be wearing green and white but probably black and white stripes

  10. He ignored Sheppard (a glaring omission because it makes Lowery a starter), underated Rhodes and Pace, and glossed over just what it means to have Ryan running the D.

    It’s just a cheap shot.

    ESPN’s 4th seems reasonable.

  11. [...] thejetsblog.com. Please read the complete article and let us know what you think [...]

  12. The Jets D may be overrated at this point, but by treating Rhodes and espectially Jenkins as nothing special and by ignoring Lito, the Bleacher report is pretty silly. I also think folks massively underrate Harris, who when healthy is a true stud, and misunderstand what Scott’s role is going to be. I think he’s going to pretty much play the same role as he did with the Ravens, with Harris playing the Ray Lewis role. They’ll mix and match a bit to keep offenses on their toes but Scott will be the “leader” because he knows the system and talks the most, not because he’s going to be the guy getting all the tackles.

The real question is whether the Jets can generate an outside pass rush in their base D without having to resort to fancy blitzes. If not, their pass D will end up being inconsistent.

  13. “Kerry Rhodes is a solid 26-year old safety, but is more talk than anything.”

i Guess 84 tackles are not worth much in Isacs book. if he did his homework he might have noticed we started off as the #4 rank defense last year till Brett started throwing a NFL high 22 INT. Jenkins disk didnt help either. with the improvements on an already talented D AND Ryan…the best you can come up with is “above avg”?
    HAHAHA HATER
