Bent,

I should've said first three different letters!

Cabras,

I think Vick already served his time and Burress hasn't even been indicted, but I thought your comment was funny. After all, the original "The Longest Yard" was the best football movie, ever. "For Granny, for Nate...for Caretaker..LET'S DO IT!" So, you may have a good idea there (although, I think the Flight Crew are much better cheerleaders, so the convict's should leave theirs back at the prison).

I say on Sunday we should bring a bus to the jail and load up the players for the game, and after the game bring them back until next week!!

Godell is getting carried away with the fact that "God" comprises the first 3 letters of his name. Vick was suspended by the NFL in August 2007. In December 2007, he entered his plea deal and went to jail. He was released from jail in May 2009 and in July 2008 went bankrupt. He was, in effect, already suspended for the entire 2007 season. A further suspension denies him the opportunity to earn a living in his profession (one of the keys to recidivism in America is high unemployment for ex-felons), and denies his many creditors the chance to recoup some of their losses. An indefinite suspension, IMO, is both unfair and excessive.

As for Plax, he was suspended, without pay, for 5 games by the Giants, he has not been either indicted or convicted of any crime and his transgression actually injured him and him alone. I know Godell is serious about conduct issues, but Plax's issue didn't involve gunplay that ended up in a death (has Marvin Harrison been investigated? Just because the Philly DA declined to prosecute doesn't mean the Ayatollah Footballa shouldn't weigh in) or serious injury to anyone other than Plax.

The circumstances of Plax's "crime" are comical. Eyewitness reports don't support the idea that Plax was going to draw his weapon in a dispute. Instead, the idiot was adjusting a loaded automatic, with the safety off, in his waistband and shot himself in the thigh (he's lucky he didn't shoot off his johnson or hit an artery).

NFL players get into a lot of disputes. I don't have an issue with Goodell trying to clean up behavior among NFL athletes, but there have to be guidelines. Right now, any punisment meted out would be arbitrary...that's okay for dictatorships, not democracies. Plus, Vick already was suspended, served his time and paid a significant penalty, while Plax was suspended by his team, lost 5 games of pay and had to recover from injury, all without even being indicted.

Maybe Goodell should also understand that showing mercy also sends a message, as Shakespeare said:

The quality of mercy is not strain'd,
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest:
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.

Playing in the NFL is a privilege, not a right. Plaxico blew his privilege, we will be reading about his bankruptcy proceedings soon.

I suspect that when Goodell punishes Vick and Burress that a court case will test his authority.

The issue in the Vick situation is that he has paid his debt but since he was found guilty and is a convicted felon, my guess is Vick will win the sympathy vote but not in the courts because he has no right to play in the league and he has been adjudicated at a fair trial to have broken its behavioral policy.

Burress might win. First, his case is not likely to have been adjudicated and if he is lucky, he will not even have been indicted before Goodell's ruling. If Burress agent was smart, he would do everything he could to get a team to sign Burress now -- putting pressure on the Commish to rule. Also, Burress was already suspended by the Jints and a court or arbiter might rule punishing a guy twice for the same crime is unfair.

I would not mind the courts curtailing the No Fun League owners' stodge's powers. I for one don't like what I perceive the arbitrariness and unfairness of some rulings.

Bring back the sack dance.

Um, despite the fact of the terrible things that Vick did he should deserve to be reinstated. Goddell, you can't punish someone who has already been punished. Now this sets a bad precedent for anything in the future. Your essentially telling players that despite what the justice system says/does your still not going to play.

I'm disappointed but not surprised...I wanted Plax only because he would provide us with a #1 receiver, open open our offense and not allow defenses to stack 8 in the box against us. Hopefully, we will continue to monitor our options and improve our corps as the cuts in camp take place.

While there is so much ex-giant/giant scrub pick up off waives stuff going on, I wanted to ask does anyone else find it EGREGIOUS that the Jets are selling "Giant Stadium" Seats at the official jets shop?

As much as I love our loyal fan-base, I personally will murder-punch any Jets fan who wants anything from that stadium.
