News: Jets Keep On Waivering
Posted on June 29th, 2009 by Bent
The Jets have picked up yet another ex-Giant on waivers, this time former Rutgers guard Mike Fladell.
Fladell is huge (6′7″, 334) and was once regarded as a potential mid-to-late round pick. From what I’ve seen of him, he is a powerful run blocker with the ability to pull. He was undrafted in 2008 and spent the year on the Giants practice squad.
Keep searching guys, you’ll find someone that makes up for the loss of Derrick Ward eventually. (Or maybe you won’t, but keep searching anyway…)

I like the size, he’s huge! If he can play, he might be an eventual replacement for B. Moore, who I’m sorry to say, I don’t think is a good lineman, average, but not good. I also think he is the weak link on the line, and would be my first priority to replace.
Brandon Renkart, Westerman, and now Fladell, Rutgers is gonna be the Jets farm team
maybe this is a bad sign? maybe the coach just isn’t happy at all with the talent on the field. or maybe he’s just a thorough person.
and derrick ward isn’t that good, he’s just a product of the line. watch his highlights, he has like 4 yards before he’s ever touched.

I think this is a good sign from the Jets. The Jets haven’t drafted many late round players lately, so the other two ways to fill out the roster and potentially add a legitimate player for little cost is to sign UDFA’s and raid other teams’ practice squads. Give the Giants their due, they’ve developed some great OLs, so Flagell likely has been well-coached and there’s no denying his size. I think the Urrutia signing might turn out to be a great move.
This is the second Giant we’ve picked-up, yes? Rex and Tom C must have had a nice talk at the Dr. Z event.
Third, actually. Milner (already cut), Barksdale and Fladell all came from the Giants.
