Almost. Can I suggest a minor correction?

"If the Jets had Abraham playing OLB, our defense would be a lock to finish top 5...provided he stayed healthy"

The guy was awesome pretty much whenever he played, but they always struggled without him, which was more often than it should've been. Great player and perhaps underrated, but it's tough to forgive him for the 2004 playoffs when the Jets have had so many tough and gutsy players over the years.

Some people think Chad is great whereas some think he is terrible. Therefore, I'd suggest he's underrated by some and overrated by others. That's probably true of a lot of players though, which is why I see these lists as kind of a waste of time. Often when someone starts to be recognized as underrated, everyone jumps on the bandwagon and that guy ends up being overrated!

I agree with both Abraham and Pennington. Abraham is underated because people overlook his production and focus on the injuries. The fact is, when Abraham is on the field, he is one of the best pass rushers in the NFL. That is why he is underated. If the Jets had Abraham playing OLB, our defense would be a lock to finish top 5

John Abraham UNDERrated? please. He punked out of playing in the divisional playoffs in 2004, that is a HUGE downer. A stigma that should follow him his whole career. If you can go in the playoffs, YOU GO.

oops i thought they meant chad was overrated. His contract and production while on the Jets (stats-wise) were not on the same level. But, his leadership and professionalism were exceptional. I guess it can go either way, but his year last year, oooohhh I was biting my lip at the end of the last game.

So, WAS Favre on the overrated list?

John Abraham is like Simeon Rice. If he's not have a good day, don't expect anything else.

I'll move down John Abraham and move up Ty law. I haven't paid attention to Woody before; it's quite hard to call offensive linemen overrrated since many can play multiple roles. Woody started off as a centre, picked in the first round. I believe he played some guard before as well. If that's overrated then makes most drafted OL garbage.
John Abraham is a glassjaw. He doesn't like contact and can get blown off; best as down pass rushing 4-3 end.
As for Ty law I don't know what they were on when they came to this conclusion. Nobody was saying that before he had the surgery. The season after he had 10 INTs I believe. This is stupid.
Chad Pennington was the only solid thin we had in a long while. I'm not throwing him under the bus. There's so many first round QB's that he had a better career than. Completion percentage, etc.

John Abraham's value was never underrated during those rare periods when he stayed on the field. When he took a pass in the playoffs, that about did it for him and the Jets and the fans.

well said, sec108. Sometimes hank/naples sounds like fonzie with his mad love of Chad, but you conveyed my sentiments exactly. Now I just wish A-Rod could/would be "accepted" in the same way..."....see him for what he actually is, not what [we] wish he could be."

I wish the team never switched to a 4-3 after parcells. If everyone remembers Abraham was drafted to be a 3-4 outside rusher and Ellis a 3-4 end. I think if Abraham stayed at 255 instead of beefing up to 275 and playing Defensive end he would have been hurt less and been even more productive.

He made as big a difference to the defense as Jenkins did last year.
