If the team scores on THE FIRST possession in overtime, the other team gets the ball with a chance to tie or win the game. Other than that, first team to score wins. No other rules need changing.

As far as OT goes the best proposal I've heard is this:

Have the coin flip BEFORE the game. Then each team would know in advance the effect of playing for the tie. Teams knowing they lost the coin flip would do their best to win in regulation, rather than play for the tie. Teams knowing they won the flip can play for the tie. Late game clock managment would change for both teams. Strategy during the game changes.

So rather than the coin flip starting a whole "new" game, overtime becomes an integral part of the game in it's entirety.

On OT:

Not one HC in the league would stand for that. That would immediately paint a ginormous target on the back of every HC in the league. Every Monday story after regulation-tie games would become whether your coach is a HERO or a ZERO, due to the call he made to start OT. The players would then become merely "players" who dealt with the hand they were given by the coach. It's the coach who would have all the focus there. You think the shots fans take at coaches are rough now? Ouch, it'd be a HC free-fire zone!

$499 for two seats are just as big a rip-off as the PSL fees.
