Link: How Cortland landed the Jets
Needless ot say, when the Jets moved their training camp north to Cortland, it came as a bit of susprise to us in the southern part of the state. Wondering just how it happened? The Syracuse Post-Standard breaks it down.
For the Jets, Cortland has everything it needs, including the secluded setting that new coach Rex Ryan sought to instill more team esprit de corps.
There’s an $18 million football stadium complex built in 2002, NFL-quality video and information technology equipment, air-conditioned housing for players and staff, natural turf practice fields and other nearby campus facilities.Clay Hampton, the Jets senior operations director, said SUNY Cortland’s video and information technology equipment loomed big in the team’s final decision. Most NFL teams, including the Jets, use the same digital video equipment and software to develop game strategy, and to evaluate players and plays, he said.
Programs like hudl and video study becoming ever important in a football team’s preparation. So, having those kinds of tools a hand off-campus like Rex wants is a huge boost and surely played a huge role in luring the Jets to Cortland.
