With training camp rounding the corner, the Jets have gone off and signed tackle, Nevin McCaskill.
Less than a month away from the start of training camp, the Jets signed free agent tackle Nevin McCaskill Monday. The 6-4, 300-pounder spent part of last season with the Eagles practice squad before getting signed to the Packers active roster in December.
He was on the Bills practice squad for parts of the 2007 season.
McCaskill, who played at Hampton, was inactive for three games with Green Bay in 2008 and released two weeks ago (June 29).
I don’t see too much in McCaskill and his resume doesn’t exactly fill me with that warm, fuzzy feeling with so little accomplishments made. Most likely he’ll be gone via the roster cutdown but as Rotoworld put it, “He’ll be a camp body for Kris Jenkins and company to tee off on.”

I agree with Mr Weeks. Training camp body. I just wish that we would sign some Offensive lineman who could really give us depth. O-line could be the most important group in which to have depth and we have none. I like Tannenbaum but, he should have learned from 2007 — you don’t have an O line, you go nowhere.
-
umm we got some depth now harvlis what are you talking about
-
lol “let jenkins and company tee off on him” lol good point. i agree.
-
unless this guy can play OLB, i dont want him
-
BigKatFan,
Good point but don’t worry about it. We have depth in that position. I like Pace but it gives the Jets a chance to test out VG or a couple other guys. The OLB position is key for the 34 defense and can be a devistating piece to getting allot of pressure on the QB just think about Terell Suggs and LT. It may be a good thing that Pace is out.
Go Jets. -
Few teams have genuine depth @ the O-line position. Wish we signed Jon Jansen who signed w/ Detroit, at least he could be a starter in case anyone went down.
-
Jeff,
I completly agree and Jets have probably the best O-Line in NFL and we are growing more depth as the weeks pass and should be fine by pre-season.

Why can’t Pace do some community service and do some PSA’s about not using PED’s? Surely Herr Godell could reduce the suspension. Even the RB in Buffalo got his reduced to 3 games and that was a weapons charge I think. If Calvin Pace played for the Patriots this would have been swept under the rug like spygate. It just bugs me that Herr Godell is so biased.

BTW is that a mugshot photo of this player we picked up? LOL
-
Charlie D, thank you for the reassurance
-
James,
You would think it is a mug shot and that is probably the scary part of signing this guy, he looks like he could shoot himself in the thigh like another football player we know.
-
Trevor,
Name the back-up O-linemen. How many pro games have they started?
-
umm we got 8 backups dude but ight
-
backups:
michael kracalik
robert turner
stanley daniels
wayne hunter
matt slauson
nevin mccaskillplus undrafted rookies:
tavita thompson
ryan mckee
michael parentonso what do u want, us to go spend more money on a backup???
and games played got nothing to do with it..why do u think OL are drafted so high and start right away…
o yea and thats 9 backups buddy, so what u got to that???
-
BIG Kat Fan,
No problem, Jets need to develop others guys in the OLB position if we are going to be successful with an aggressive blitz D. Talk to you soon :)
Go Jets!!!
-
Trevor,
I’m glad you feel comfortable with your list of back-ups. Me, I prefer players that have participated in a pro football game, during the regular season. How would you know what to expect from them, if they have never seen regular season action against starting players? You haven’t listed one player that I would be confident of. Thanks for proving my point.

so what do u think we should do then harvlis, honestly, we have plenty of backups…so what do u want the jets to do??

This looks more like a video game than football as I know it. I hope our team does not resemble those crash and burn arcade games !!!
