  1. Not exactly the move I would have made while asking my boss for a job.

  2. And he wants a new contract?

  3. Is it me or is this reminiscent of Chris Baker wanting a new deal and then parking his Bentley in Jay Cross’ spot? lol

  4. I think I am on TJ’s side on this one. I mean the newest car in the fleet is from 2006. He needs a new contract so he can buy a 2010.

  5. What’s the big deal? It’s been statistically proven that TJ’s performance is optimized when his number of cars approaches 20.

    Or was it carries?

  6. So typical.

  7. Doesn’t anyone buy American anymore?

  8. i would buy american if i wasnt lower middle class and could afford 5mpg on a family sedan.

    lol

  9. and no, i dont wanna buy no chevy aveo or the like :P

and dont even mention hybrids, lower middle class people like me cant buy that engine.

  10. I work at a BMW dealer in florida my friend just worked on that lime green 6 series. its a really high quality paint job but it looks like a dam lolipop

  11. greene,

how about a ford focus or a saturn? lol

  12. O my god, what an idiot. I hope he’s invested some of that money. ‘Hey Ekhart, think about the future’.

  13. Sack,
I just moved out of NYC and was forced to buy a car, so I did a lot of research. Ford Taurus/Focus and Chevy Malibu are the only American cars (sedans) that even enter the conversation when you take fuel efficiency and safety ratings into account. There’s a reason why there are so many Honda Accords on the road — they are just flat out better in every way.

  14. These cars have nothing to do with the contract situation. Every player has the right to spend money on whatever they wish, cars homes, making “it rain”. He’s a car collector, and R&B mogul, so hes got to represent.

For the record, Ford has been making strides in quality and MPG lately, and they are affordable, i think the new Fusion is a hot car. Stop knocking on American, they been very good lately, except that GM cant figure out labor issues. Thats why theyre bankrupt NOT because of low quality of vehicles.

    BUY AMERICAN PEOPLE!

  15. i have a picture of me getting TJ signing a football for me and he was driving in that very same car. whenever i show anyone the picture they could care less about the autograph, they just love the car.

  16. mole57,

I hear you, but fuel efficiency doesn’t seem to be Mr. Jones’ concern. However, even if it was, how about his buying an American-made Tesla? The Roadster is on my list of buys if I ever hit Mega-Millions…lol

  17. vinnywasthebest,

making strides, definitely. but as of right now, its most cost efficient to buy foreign cars. hopefully that’ll change in the future.

and for those people who have lots of $$$ like tj, those european cars are just too damn badass luxurious, lol.

  18. if thats what he wants to do w his money, then so be it

while i am not a car person those are pretty cool cars

  19. Everyone knows that america makes crappy luxury vehicles. The Corvette is the only car that comes into discussion as MAYBE a good luxury/supercar.

Also apparently in Europe it doesnt matter if you have a Bentley/Lambo/BMW if you have a Corvette you are just the coolest!

  20. He can do whatever he wants with his $$$. It just doesn’t paint a pretty picture in his bosses mind when the time comes to give him an extension. Even though they are pretty pictures. And American cars suck. Progress?? Too little too late. Step it up another notch if you want my $$$.

  21. Can he spell Bankruptcy Court!

  22. I don’t care what they spend their money on… but it’s when they ask for more money then do articles like this, that I get mad.

I like Jones but this article shows how financially stable this guy really is and I would rather him sit then get anymore from the Jets…..

  23. I drive a 2000 Jeep Cherokee but I don’t mind paying top dollar for Jets tix so Thomas can have a fleet of luxury cars, because I am so stupid.

  24. This post just turned me into my cranky old grandfather. I was on his side, I really was.

  25. Typical!!

  26. must have read the MC Hammer guide to financial security

  27. A better hobby than dogfighting. What he spends his money on is his business. Let’s hope that he still has some gas in the tank.

  28. wow, so much hate.

dunno why everyone complaining abouth his cars…

he has money so he likes to buy toys…
    he’s a millionaire, not a saint.

im betting 99% of the people complaining would do the exact same thing.

  29. greene,

Im betting 99% of the people would NOT buy a rainbow colored collection of luxury cars.

Everyone is complaining because he wants more money. He likely didn’t even consider what doing this spread might reflect to the organization he is asking for money from. Hes too self centered for that. Dumb TJ… dumb

  30. lol, MSM.

if you think 99% of people arent gonna buy a bunch of cars after making millions of dollars (maybe not rainbowed coordinated), you are just being silly.

  31. I said rainbow color collection for a reason… to show the absurdity of it. Its pretty clear you don’t get it (which is why you are lol), so let me explain it to you one more time…

You don’t threaten to hold out for more money during a recession and then do a spread with your rainbow color car collection. Period. It makes you look dumb, arrogant, and out of touch with reality.

  32. I love TJ, but its things like this that make me laugh than throw up when I hear about a pro athlete wanting a raise in pay….

  33. He is a total a$$$hole.

  34. no, you dont get it MSM.

the guy makes millions and he asked for more money? so whats the problem here? that he asked for more? did he actually GET MORE?

see, you are just jealous of the system that made him a big time millionaire. like they say, dont hate the player, hate the game.

  35. also, MSM

if you actually read into my first post, it was clear what i was trying to say, so it seems like you didnt get what i was trying to say.

let me re-iterate my post just so you CAN GET IT.

“he has money so he likes to buy toys…
    he’s a millionaire, not a saint.”

  36. i think its disgusting how people judge others people they have money.

its just as bad as people with money looking down on people without money.

  37. greene,

You are so wrong on so many levels. YES… the problem is that he asked for more. NO… he did not get more… and that is exactly the way it should stay going into training camp.

Your point of him being a millionaire not a saint doesn’t change the fact that he should be called out for being stupid. And in this case I can definitely hate the player and not the game. The man signed a contract. As a man, he should live by it (that’s the point of contracts). He scored one touchdown his first season, all of a sudden has a good season last year and now wants to change the terms of his 3 year contract?? I don’t think so…

Trust me, I’m not that jealous…I’m glad I don’t need people like you to defend me on a blog when I buy a neon lime green BMW.

  38. Why couldn’t he be like John Stockton and drive the minivan, or he could’ve pulled a Karl Malone and rocked the big rig. I would have had much more respect for his originality.

  39. greene and MSM – stop bickering and stay on topic, otherwise your posts will be blocked.

  40. Why would anyone care about this? If he was collecting crack ho’s that would be an issue. So he likes cars. Big deal. It has absolutely nothing to do with his contract. (I’m against giving him more money, but I certainly don’t base it on how he might spend it.)

Why some here would prefer that he not appear wealthy is beyond me. And don’t give me the “in this economy” crap. The economy sucks, so the rich should pretend to be poor?

Being the dyed in the wool liberal I am, if you want to talk tax increases for the rich I’m your man. But expecting the rich to not act like it is just crazy talk.

  41. TJ is no different than Jay Leno. No reason for hat here guys. Seek help.

  42. No reason for “hate”.

  43. hey moron, they’re called depreciating assets ….. what a stupid person ….he knew when he signed his deal that the money would run out in year 3 and 4 ……so what does he do? BUYS a bunch of insanely priced cars ….stupid ass…trade him for Braylon edwards…..

  44. I dont get why people are defending this. The difference between Jay Leno and TJ is that that Jay Leno isnt asking to discard his contract and rework another one with the threat of holding out. Thats the difference. It matters because its optics. Because to the average fan and to the organization, the optics of having this guy showcase his car collection while asking for more money during a recession are mind boggling. And the organization includes the employees at the Jets complex that were given a couple weeks of unpaid vacation not too long ago. It matters because not only is he acting selfishly, but he is looking selfishly too now. No one can judge what he does with his money. I agree with that… but the fans and the team certainly have a right to withhold paying him more… and by doing spreads like this, it just makes it even easier.

  45. No one has the right to criticize Jones for spending his money on cars, he earned it.

  46. when he retires (next yr) he will be broke in 5 yrs what an ass

  47. MSM,

I think you’re right on point. No one is hating on his money or his cars. He can buy 10 more cars if he likes. We’re arguing the fact that he wants more money when he doesn’t deserve more. The owners didn’t give those employees a choice on wether they wanted to take a mandatory, unpaid vacation. And I bet they’re not asking for a new contract with more money either.

  48. See you in 10 years whenTJ will join many “sports greats” in ‘94 Honda Civics. I guess TJ failed math at UVA.

  49. All successful players try to renegotiate their contracts as best they can. An athlete has only so many years and then it’s over. This is not to say that I think TJ deserves more. Nor am I happy that he has held out. He is nearing the end of his playing career and he just led the conference in rushing. He must feel that he won’t get a better chance to push the envelope. It is up to the Jets to evaluate his ability and his future with the team, and make a good decision.

His car collection and the way he spends his money has no bearing whatsoever.

  50. NFL players get thrown to the curb when teams don’t want then any longer. These guys only get a few opportunities to cash in while they can. TJ is coming off of a huge year, and this is a perfect time to get a new contract, it also may be his last chance. Anyone who criticizes NFL players for aggressively pursuing new contratcs isn’t being fair to the players.

  51. when you get paid millions to play football your already beingt treated fairly, excuse us for not feeling bad for him. I understand that what they get paid and thats fine make as much money as he wants, thats the way the NFL works, but to try and have him or any athlete getting paid that much money treated as a victim in any monetary situation is asking a little much. We cant walk up to our boss and say “i want more money or im not coming to work until I get it” and we arent getting paid near what they are. This isnt about just TJ but any player, especially in these times no hardworking 9-5 working man is gonna feel sorry for you because the millions of dollars hes making isnt enough adn he wants more. When most americans are worried about their jobs, keeping their homes and providing for their family you cant expect those people to feel sorry for a player that is financially secure for life (which any american would want) and feels underpaid, not gonna happen, at least not from me

  52. Very well put Ryan

  53. Football players get paid millions for a reason. The NFL is a multi billion dollar corporation and the players deserve to be compensated accordingly. Stop pointing out the money he has earned thus far because it is irrelevant. Like I said in my previous post, when a player gets cut they get NOTHING.

Ryan, I didnt say I feel sorry for TJ, all im saying is I understand the position these players are in and I feel they should try and collect as much money as possible. The average career span of an NFL RB, I believe, is about 3-4 years, and when their careers are over they dont get all of the benefits you get at your job.
