Football players get paid millions for a reason. The NFL is a multi billion dollar corporation and the players deserve to be compensated accordingly. Stop pointing out the money he has earned thus far because it is irrelevant. Like I said in my previous post, when a player gets cut they get NOTHING.

Ryan, I didnt say I feel sorry for TJ, all im saying is I understand the position these players are in and I feel they should try and collect as much money as possible. The average career span of an NFL RB, I believe, is about 3-4 years, and when their careers are over they dont get all of the benefits you get at your job.

when you get paid millions to play football your already beingt treated fairly, excuse us for not feeling bad for him. I understand that what they get paid and thats fine make as much money as he wants, thats the way the NFL works, but to try and have him or any athlete getting paid that much money treated as a victim in any monetary situation is asking a little much. We cant walk up to our boss and say "i want more money or im not coming to work until I get it" and we arent getting paid near what they are. This isnt about just TJ but any player, especially in these times no hardworking 9-5 working man is gonna feel sorry for you because the millions of dollars hes making isnt enough adn he wants more. When most americans are worried about their jobs, keeping their homes and providing for their family you cant expect those people to feel sorry for a player that is financially secure for life (which any american would want) and feels underpaid, not gonna happen, at least not from me

NFL players get thrown to the curb when teams don't want then any longer. These guys only get a few opportunities to cash in while they can. TJ is coming off of a huge year, and this is a perfect time to get a new contract, it also may be his last chance. Anyone who criticizes NFL players for aggressively pursuing new contratcs isn't being fair to the players.

All successful players try to renegotiate their contracts as best they can. An athlete has only so many years and then it's over. This is not to say that I think TJ deserves more. Nor am I happy that he has held out. He is nearing the end of his playing career and he just led the conference in rushing. He must feel that he won't get a better chance to push the envelope. It is up to the Jets to evaluate his ability and his future with the team, and make a good decision.

His car collection and the way he spends his money has no bearing whatsoever.

MSM,

I think you're right on point. No one is hating on his money or his cars. He can buy 10 more cars if he likes. We're arguing the fact that he wants more money when he doesn't deserve more. The owners didn't give those employees a choice on wether they wanted to take a mandatory, unpaid vacation. And I bet they're not asking for a new contract with more money either.

I dont get why people are defending this. The difference between Jay Leno and TJ is that that Jay Leno isnt asking to discard his contract and rework another one with the threat of holding out. Thats the difference. It matters because its optics. Because to the average fan and to the organization, the optics of having this guy showcase his car collection while asking for more money during a recession are mind boggling. And the organization includes the employees at the Jets complex that were given a couple weeks of unpaid vacation not too long ago. It matters because not only is he acting selfishly, but he is looking selfishly too now. No one can judge what he does with his money. I agree with that... but the fans and the team certainly have a right to withhold paying him more... and by doing spreads like this, it just makes it even easier.
