Washington needs “Quiet Time”

Um, okay, this is possibly one of the most awkward articles I will ever write for TJB but I’ll try as best I can to make it sound somewhat coherent and anyway, I will be away for four days so I figured I would try to provide comic relief … sort of.

We all know AFV right? Funnyman Tim Burgeron opens the show, goes into a quick story to get the audience laughing and then off to the hilarious videos. Well similar to that, someone needs to come up with ASQ, America’s Stupid Quotes. In comes Leon Washington. In an ESPN article (w/ Maria Sharapova on the cover), Washington literally lets loose about his alone time and how it helps him in the game.

“After we warm up before a game,” Washington says in tiny type at the bottom of page 69, “I gotta take a dump. It’s a huge benefit to release that gas you don’t need. The facilities are beautiful. We’re spoiled. If I get a good one, I know I am gonna score two touchdowns.”

Perhaps someone should alert the janitorial staff at Land Shark Stadium and advise them to plug up the pipes in the visiting locker room when the Jets come to town on Monday Oct. 12. Cleaning up afterwards might not be so pleasant, but if it neutralizes the Jets’ running game, well, wouldn’t that be a “huge benefit” to the home team?

May Leon flow freely before games so he can score touchdowns but again this is the weirdest crap I have ever heard.

  1. I made it a routine to take a dump before every football game too. one less thing to worry about during the game. it really works…

  2. off subject but i thought today was very interesting!
sometime back in 1993 i called up giants stadium in an attempt to put my name on the jets season ticket waiting list. i heard nothing for about 8 years and then i checked up on it and they said i was number 2,900 or something down from 10,870 whatever it was in 1993. then i checked in 2003 and my name was not even on the list. no notification nothing. earlier this year around april i figured i would put my name on the new stadiums waiting list and perhaps in 5 or so years i would be called and in the mean time i would put money away with an option i have with my credit union in my job and i would have the psl money all ready to go. well don’t you know i just got an email today from the jets telling me congrat’s after years of waiting ( 2 months on this list ) your opportunity for your season tickets is here! figures! ahh the life of a die hard jets fan it is filled with almosts isn’t it.

  3. Haaaa yeah man me too! I was bunkered down for the long haul, was only on it for a year, and got the email and a thing in the mail… HAAAHAHA yea them PSLs must be scaring people off fast! good to know im not the only one who was shocked to get the tix so fast

  4. Just another reason why Leon Washington is amazing.

  5. Don’t buy the PSL’s. Let them eat those seats. Fight the stupidity.

Let’s get back to Leon and his dumps. He must feel lighter, when he gets done. Kind of like my black lab. He lets one go and he is ready for action. You gotta love Leon for letting this little tidbit get out. From now on, before the home games, when the team is practicing, I will have to go down to field level and ask Leon if he took care of business yet. I just have to remember not to shake his hand.

  6. Great article on Danny Woodhead. Incredible stats also!!

  7. Typically bush league idea by the Miami guy. If they do block up the johns, isn’t there a statue of Dan Marino handy?

  8. it is awkward, his name is Tom Bergeron

  9. In basketball, we call this “a pre-game”.

“I gotta take a pre-game” is commonly heard before games on every team I’ve ever been on. I never heard anyone wax quite so poetically about it as Leon though.

  10. Following the Washington logic, would a serious case of diarrhea result in him getting a TD hat trick?

  11. What’s so remarkable about this. I thought everyone dropped a deuce before playing sports at any competitive level.

  12. What an interesting “nugget” of information.

  13. It’s obvious “the dump” is underated.

  14. when I hear “Nugget” I think Adam Schein and dropping a duece….

Can we please this guy already !!!!

  15. It actually makes sense when you think about it. After a dump, you feel relaxed and re-energized. “Taking a load off” should me him feel ready to go.

  17. Harvlis,

Rooting against the Jets selling PSLs is rooting for listening to the games on the radio. Don’t let your enmity for this gouging of the fans get in the way of your self interest. I only hope there are enough well heeled Jets fans to sell them all.

And don’t think that slow sales means an end to PSLs. As long as they can sell a good portion of them they make more money than they would without them.

PSLs are here to stay. I dare say that in another decade or so they’ll be the rule, not the exception.

  18. StvDoe,

You might be the only person that I have ever known to be happy about the PSL’s.

I haven’t been happy about the price of tickets, parking, food, & drink, for a long time now. It hasn’t stopped me from going to the games that I like and neither will PSL’s.

As a country, we have spiralled out of control. Players used to play for the sport of it. Now, big business has taken over sports. I feel bad for my children and their children. Therefore, when I see greedy business people do things like force PSL’s on fans who have payed for seasons passes for forty years — I get sick to my stomach. They can choke on their PSL’s, for all I care.

  19. PSLs:

My father and I have had season tickets to the Jets for the last 12 years. I have been going to almost every Jets’ home game with my dad for as long as I can remember, dating back to before I was a teenager. I am 21 now, and unfortunately, we can’t get tickets in the new stadium. To keep our old seats would be a 20,000 dollar investment, on top of the increased price per ticket per game. It is a shame that I will be losing this tradition with my father as a result of the greed of the Jets.

I understand the need for a new stadium for a team like the Mets, who had a stadium that was falling apart. But I actually liked Giants stadium, and really see no reason for them to have to replace it.

  20. Harvlis,

I doubt you’ll read this but here goes.

Where in my post do I say I’m happy about PSLs? I think PSLs suck.

I had 4 seats for 20+ years which I gave up a few years ago due to rising costs and my conviction that PSLs were on the horizon. (My seats cost $12.50 a piece when I first got them. Wow,)

But now that I have to watch all the games on TV I certainly don’t want to be forced to listen to the radio 8 home games a year. So I naturally want the PSLs to sell to avoid that.

Once again, why should you (or I) let our hatred for PSLs keep real fans from watching the games?

Like I said, they’re here to stay. I’m just dealing with that reality.

  21. Harvlis,

I forgot to note that you ARE paying for PSLs, so it would seem that your attitude is really selfish. YOU’RE going to see the games anyway.

Doesn’t that seem like you’re saying screw the average Jet fan as well as the owner? Or do you not care that we’ll be collateral damage?
