Sadly, a former Jet from the 1970s, JJ Jones was killed in a suspicious fire in his home in Washington State. Jones and his roomate were both killed in the blaze. Police have detained and are questioning a a nephew of Jones’ roomate, a 23 year old with a history of mental illness.
Jones was one of the very first African American QBs in the NFL, playing as the third stringer during the days of Joe Namath. Jones was a pioneer in the league, and we wish his family our sincerest condolences in this time.

typo, maybe.
RIP J.J. Jones

He lived just blocks from my home in University Place, WA and yet I never knew the man personally. My father and husband remember him. I do feel a sense of loss however as this is just too tragic and shameful incident! A good prosecution is what is really needed; but he’ll probably get off on mental illness. Always remember JJ.

I saw him start on MNF in 1975 versus the Chargers. Ken Shipp benched Joe Namath for breaking curfew. The only Joe was ever benched. The Chargers QB a was very young Dan Fouts. Joe was inserted in the 2nd quarter. The tickets to this game were my birthday present for turning 11.
Old Joe fan

He was before my time, but rest in peace.
In his bio, which was lifted from the 1975 Jets Yearbook, it says he “threw for four TOPs in his 3 pre-season games”. Anyone know what that means? Is it just touchdown passes?
