In Which Kerry Rhodes Serves Fonzie the Commenter

Fonzie, you just got served by Kerry Rhodes.

@thejetsblog yo tell ur man whoever he is on ur site(fonzie) if im not considered an elite safety in this league he needs to watch me play!

@thejetsblog and if he is basing me being elite on probowls i have been alternate twice and should have made it both years

@thejetsblog but we had a coach that didnt want any player to shine above the team or garner that kind of attention. and in that case i

@thejetsblog guess namdi from oakland isnt elite and prolly the best corner in football just becuz he just made his first last year!

@thejetsblog im really upset if hes a jet fan and he should b more supportive and hope we perform better than b to the contrary! ridiculous!

He does have a pretty good point, Fonzie. Keep in mind that by your own criteria, you would say that Brett Favre was elite last year, and we all know how you feel about him … zing!!!

  1. OOO Fonzie got pwned..

  2. Fonzie deserved it but not this much attention because he’s not an elite blogger.

  3. Awesome, just awesome.

  4. I think most people involved in the actual game of football know that Pro Bowls don’t mean d*#k in the way of determining whether a player is “elite” or not. Fans get 1/3 of the votes, and for the most part, fans do not have adequate knowledge of the game to do so. That, and a lot of people are just retarded (see Jason Peters making the Pro Bowl as well as Brett Farve.) Also the system/ overall team makes a huge difference as to whether a player will succeed or not. I am guessing Mangini wasn’t fired just because of his man bosoms, though it probably helped.

More importantly, if Kerry Rhodes is reading these comments, when is he going to be available for a thejetsblog chat? Just a thought…

  5. Fonzie you got pawned, and Kerry Namdi made the Probowl twice, once in 06 and this year, just correcting you.

  6. Kerry or fans,

I think you are one of the top FS in the nfl in fact most fans I know feel that way. I remeber Bill Bellichek commented that he thought “you were the Best safty he has every gone up against” this was a direct quote from one of the top football minds today.

    Go Jets !!!!

  7. You know what happens when you get served and then you serve them right back?

    Oh, it’s ON!!!

  8. BleedGreen35-
Agreed The Pro Bowl is one huge Popularity contest.

  9. Favre got selected to the Pro Bowl last year. The NFC fans wanted to watch four quarters of offense.

  10. Hey Kerry I didn’t mean a thing when I said Nmandi made 2 Pro Bowls, your an Elite Safety and fonzie is just a hater and I hear he like Mangini.

  11. How you like Rhodes on defense now Fonzie? Cuz you just got shut down lol

  12. Careful everyone…Kerry also said this:

“maybe i need 2 check that site out on the regular lol!”

    You’re always welcome, Kerry!

  13. AYYYE Bent I like That…everybody watch your words, we wouldn’t want Bart Scott Pwning someone.

  14. ahh Bart Scott is all Bark
he better bring the dog this year
dieing for some smash mouth football!!!

and #25 is one of the best in the game at his position
    IMO

  15. Loving that Fonzie got smoked by Hollywood since he is the most ridiculous blogger and usually makes zero sense….but then again he is the most ridiculous blogger.

Not totally understanding Kerry’s beef with Mangini since Mangini was his coach when he had his 2 best years especially 2006 when he was dominant. He became an elite (top 5 safety) under Mangini so maybe he should pull him out from under the bus …..just a little.

And Kerry stop throwing your fist in disgust when someone catches a ball if front of you for a big 1st down. I know it probably wasnt your fault but its not a very Hollywood thing to do….

I would like Filthy Sanchez and Kerry to have a TJB debate over who is the most handsome Jet. I am voting for Sanchez to just get Kerry fired up.

    I cant believe he pimp-slapped Fonzie….hilarious!!

  16. Actually I remember Bill Belicheat saying that Kerry wouldn’t even start on his defense. Which we all know is ridiculous. And Kerry’s numbers were almost double compared to what John Lynch had, when he made it. That alone should show you what a popularity contest it is. Kerry we all know you’re the man.

  17. kage – Nnamdi was technically voted to the pro bowl after the 2006 season as a late replacement (he was an alternate, just like Kerry), but it was too late for him to attend*, so Rhodes is correct when he says this was Nnamdi’s first Pro Bowl appearance.

    * I think Laveranues Coles was unable to appear at the Pro Bowl in similar circumstances a few years ago.

  18. Nice to see fonzie get zinged, but you have to admit it was a down year for Rhodes. I do believe Mangina was the reason the team failed to make the playoffs. I hope Kerry has a monster season this year.

Oh, and Ainge still sucks, is he still with the team? Hope not.

  19. Anybody interested please look at my comments from last year, this is not first time saying this.
    K. Rhodes is an average safety at best. I remember last year we had more than one discussion on this subject and dozens of you agreed on his (lack of) quality. His lack of heart is tremendous, he has become famous for his “spin the guy around” tackles that go for extra 5 yard gains (yac). And remember the famous Randy Moss stiff arm ? How abut him hanging on guys hips and sitting on the ground, being dragged so he slows the guy down and then someone else comes in for tackle that gives him the assist ? 2 INT’s & 5 passes knocked down last season??? 1 INT and 2 pass d’s were all against Rams in that rout, so only 1 INT and 3 pass def in 15 games??? 12 INT’s in 4 seasons and 0 touchdowns ??? As for Bellichick, he did not want to shake Tom Coughlin’s hand when he lost to him is Super Bowl and you think that telling that to Kerry was sincere and not sarcastic or a low blow to Mangina. Bellichick’s QB passed for 400+yards and ran for 100 more against Rhodes and he put up 3 solo & 1 assist tackle with n o INT’s or passes knocked ??? Kurt Warner passed for almost 400 yards in second half and where was Kerry ??? Jay Cutler tore us a new one and where was Kerry ??? Oh wait, I remember, he was getting bowled over by 6th string fullback on Denver Willis, together with getting stiffed by B Marshal. Joke.
There will be 4 Jet games on NFL Network before the season starts and probably (word Kerry can’t spell) all 16 if Favre comes back.Games are vs N.E.- OT,vs Arizona and 2 against Miami. PLEEEASE watch them and comment then !!!

  20. heckynaw…

Actually Belichick never said that in the SI article. It was Peter King saying what he thought Belichick would say that he rated Kerry in his Top 25 players after his 2006 season. Belichick made that known after the first game of 2007 season when he talked to Rhodes after a game….

    GREENBLOOD??

Just re-watch Kerry’s 2006 and 2007 season …especially 2006. He was a game changing player. Your knock on that he is not a blow up tackler is a reach. He is a drag down tackler and very rarely misses tackles. The big hit is overrated and most guys ( B Sander, E Reed and T Poly ) miss a lot fo tackles going for the big hit.

Your complaint is he got beat by Moss and Marshall? They beat alot fo guys my friend. Plus Rhodes was hardly the reason they lost either of those games.

Were you at a game last year? Rhodes was told to line up 20 -25 yards from the line of scrimmage ( which is insane) to avioid the defense getting beat. A huge reason why he was not making plays near the LOS or over the middle.

There are plenty of Jets to kill from last year bud…. Rhodes would be on the bottom of any Jet fans list.

  21. Breenblood shut the hell up kerry rhodes is an elite safety. Ur just talking about all the negatives ive seen kerry punish ball carriers with some big time hits and all those games u were talking about ur acting like he was the only defensive player on the field which is not fair and its true mangini did not put him in position to make plays

  22. If Kerry is reading this, he should know that most of us are huge fans and support him and the jets all the way! We know he is an elite safety and he will prove any haters wrong this year!

  23. AKA…Drew, 2007 he was game changing OK, 4-12 season, which of those 4 did he change? Didn’t get beat by Moss or Marshall he got stiff armed like a school boy.

e star, you talk to me when you at least finish High School. Big time hits, you say, when where? 1 of 11 player, so you can’t blame anyone for anything by that logic. Maybe criticism should be reserved for “solo” athletes not team sports.

asdf, your comment exemplifies what kind of azz licking series of comments this is – “If Kerry is reading this” – that is what all of you think, why not just ask the guy on the date.

  24. Greenblood…. If you understood ghow to read correctly I stated in ……2006 he was a game changing player….. read it out loud it might help you brother

  25. AKA…Drew, if you exclude 2007, like you are trying to back out now, than 2008 also which you agree with, than you must take out 2005 where he only ha 1 INT, what does that leaves us with? One good season in 4 years in the league. Is that a good or an “elite” safety?

Sorry, at Brown they don’t teach reading, they just assume you can.

  26. Greenblood should ask fonzie on a date………..if he/she is not fonzie under a different name, lol

  27. I love that KR Twitter’s about TJB! Awesome! Kick some ass this year Kerry!!

  28. Rookie 2005 (as a 4th rounder)
Great year 2006… might have been the best in the NFL
Very good year 2007 on a bad team
    Off year last year

He is a top 5 safety (based on his career) not barely an average saftey as you put it…..my “Ivy league” friend.

  29. Victor Green was the “best of all time” safety on the bad team. Did Kerry remind you of him that year? Ivy ;-)

  30. asdf,

RIGHT ON BRO!!! i ABSOLUTLY AGREE.

GO JETS IF YOU ARE 100% SUPPORATIVE THEN IF YOU ARE READING THIS GO WATCH NASCAR OR DO SOMETHING ELSE.

    GO JETS CHARLES D

  31. SORRY I MEANT.

IF YOU ARE NOT 100% SUPPORATIVE GO DO SONETHING ELSE. TRUE JETS FANS ARE VERY PASSIONATE.

    CHARLIED

  32. Charlie D, for future reference the closest word to SUPPORATIVE would be SUPPURATIVE which derives from word SUPPURATION which means “Formation or Discharge of PUS”- kind of a medical term. Right on kid you’ll be a doctor on day!

  33. Greenblood….must be a packer fan. Cause you dang sure ain’t no Jets fans saying our ELITE Safety is average..

  34. Actually Erik McMilian was the “best all-time safety on on a bad team and yes Rhodes he reminded me of that in 2007…..

since I didnt go to Brown I spent a lot more time watching Jet games and understanding what an average football player and a top one looked like…..mabye you were too busy correcting people’s vocabulary to know the difference.

  35. The Green Lantern #80, no man, I don’t like the way he plays. Added to that the self loving attitude he displays is sickening. Now he even throws the coach under the bus. I hated Mangina, and last two seasons did everything to knock him, so you can’t say I’m Mangina fan.
Kerry said: “@thejetsblog but we had a coach that didn’t want any player to shine above the team or garner that kind of attention.”. So he means he could have done it just wasn’t allowed ? What was D. Revis to do, drop INT’s so not to become one of top 5 DB in the league, not to outshine the “Sunshine Rhodes”?

  36. Easy AKA…Drew, people might be under the impression that I got under your skin. You are couple of profanities away from revealing a complete submission. I am glad that my opinion opened your eyes. This will echo in your mind every time he gets beat and you will remember me. However, I hope Holy Providence will make you a winner in this argument, make him new Ed Reed as well as Super Bowl MVP ala Dexter Jackson from Tampa Bay. The ladder part at least a couple of times. Save my name and call me out after the season.

  37. Ivy

I made the same point at 5pm on this blog. Not loving that he threw Mangini under the bus especially since he excelled under him in Mnagini’s first 2 years.

But the fact is the defense changed and Rhodes role change in 2008 compared to 2006 and 2007. In 2006 he had a very active and physical E Coleman that allowed Rhodes to freelance a lot more. Unlike last year when the “big hitter” you love so much like Elam got smoked on 90% of the time he was on the field

  38. I apologize, I did read it but momentum drove me away. I agree on Elam point, guy was a disaster.

  39. Just think of tonight’s session as you were back at Brown….. you came to class and I schooled you in football understanding and knowledge.

I would hardly consider what you attempted to do as getting under my skin or think anyone would come to that silly conclusion…… but you are funny

You can call me Professor Drew….. from now on!

  40. At least you kept me entertained for an hour or so….lol

  41. Professor Drew can you give me stats to look forward to? For the season tackles, INT’s, Sacks, Passes Def.

  42. AKA…Drew, on July 10th, 2009 at 11:09 pm Said:
At least you kept me entertained for an hour or so….lol

Hey we are like crack fiends, no season in sight, month to preseason….. got to kill time !

  43. Go look at his 2006 numbers when he was allowed to attack the line of scrimmage and well start with those…. If Leonhard is as good as I think he will be….He will put up bigger numbers. The guy is a top player bud…. but we will see

  44. I enjoyed it Ivy!!

  45. Hey, look at it from Bassets corner, my tirade sparked more comments than his article. Sponsors only see the bottom line, they don’t read the comments ;-)))

Just a joke – BASSETT WE LOVE YOU !!!! I don’t know what the world would look like without TJB !!!

  46. Mr. Kerry Rhodes,

Thank you for listening. I am glad that I was able to reach you. I am a jets fan first among all the other new york sports teams that I follow. I have been a Jets fan since I was born. I have watched this team’s ups and downs for a little while and I truly enjoy these moments. Last year was another one of those disappointments.

Mr. Rhodes recall training camp in 2006 when rookie head coach Eric Mangini brought you into his office and had a lengthy conversation with you. What happened after that?

I have to say you didn’t look like you were playing your best football. According to your recent comments you place some blame on the head coach Eric Mangini for holding you back and not allowing you to play the game you wanted to play. Sir, you have really ask yourself if a head coach can really hold you back from playing your best game. If you underachieved was he all responsible for the secondary’s problems that placed them 29th in the NFL overall at the end of the season? Mr. Rhodes

  47. I think Kerry Rhodes doesn’t need to worry about the opinion of a random commentator on a Jets blog. But it’s clear fonzie struck a nerve.

I don’t pay any attention to what Mangini did or didn’t do. He’s in Cleveland, he’s their problem now. I believe Kerry’s the best safety we have on the team, and I’m glad he’s here and not in crappy New England, or worse *gack* Miami.

  48. NFL fans have a short memory. Rhodes is coming off a mediocre year for his standars, but still a good year for NFL safety standards. He is still one of the best safetys in football, maybe now fonzie knows this.

If Kerry started posting regularly that would be very cool.

  49. I’d like to see a vote on which Jet safety got snubbed worse… Victor Green or Kerry Rhodes?

I say Rhodes just because of how bad Lynch was that season (~48 tks, 0ints)

  50. Fonzie let me give you a little Football lesson..Last Year we hard a HARD time at stopping TE’s because Vilma did that, so we had to put Kerry in coverage.
And Kerry is the Pro Bowl Elite Safety is when he is flying around making the Plays…
BUT Now we have Bart Scott who can cover the TE’s and Lil Jim who is great in Coverage Leaving Kerry to FLY Around and make the Plays.

  51. Anyone who actually thinks passing yards per game(where the Jets were ranked 29th) is a legitimate way to grade pass defenses needs a real slap in the face, not just a cyber one.

  52. To Mr. GREENBLOOD,
Hope you are well but I’m not sure how to take your comment?

On the subject of eduacation I have more than most! I graduated with a BA in Biology and minor in Chemistry from Caldwell College and was accepted to a couple of medical schools at home and abroad but I wanted to try the chemical industry out.

Since 2002 I recently graduated from the University of Phoenix with an MBA In Marketing and finished with distinction. I am currently going for a CFP then another masters in Banking and Financial services Mgt. at Boston University. Then take the series 3, 7, 63 and maybee CFA designmation. Hopfully I can tach undergraduate along the way.

I take any comments about my eduacation very seriously.
    Charles D

  53. It just brings a smile to my face to hear someone who actually plays the game tell fonzie where to go. I dont think that Hollywood sweats fonzie but his comments are so ridiculous and without merit that he has to set him straight. Kerry Rhodes is a top five safety in the league just behind Polamalu, Bob Sanders, Adrian Wilson. Plus he’ s awesome in my Madden Franchise… Cant wait to see 2-5 in Rex’s D and make Fonzie eat his words

  54. And he is right about Fonzie being an absolute disgrace as a Jet fan

  55. shut the hell up Greenblood im in college dumbass u dont even know me and ur here makeing stupid comments like that and yes he has made big time hits maybe u should watch the games some more instead of 1 or 2 look closely and what the hell do u mean by u cant blame anyone for anything by that logic shut the hell up and stop talking ight

  56. Mr. Kerry Rhodes,

It was common knowledge that you and Jonathan Vilma were very close friends when you played together in 2006. The two of you studied at each other’s houses breaking down film. Vilma in fact started in the 2006 Pro Bowl representing the AFC for the injured Zack Thomas. Was Vilma more responsible for your success in 2006 than you would give him credit for? He was the MIKE linebacker that year and according to his interviews by various jet sources he was the vocal leader of the group that year.

  57. Also, speaking of giving credit, aren’t you on record for crediting Mangini for having the foresight to call you out as one potential leaders of the Jets in Manginis’ tenure in early ‘06? This is something that Edwards failed to do with you in ‘05 and you credited Mangini with encouraging you to lead and succeed? And now you are throwing Mangini under the Bus by claiming that he was HOLDING your performance back????
    WHAT GIVES???

  58. e-star,

What big hits do you credit Kerry Rhodes for?? He FAILED last year to make his precense felt on the other teams. He is all hype and now TALK!!! Nothing NOTHING will change him unless he gets up and challenges himself and the rest of the team to continue doing what Mangini taught them. Kerry Rhodes is SOFT!!! He would not intimidate a kicker on the other team!!!!

  59. e star,

Get yourself together. The only thing you have said so far is bashing other commenters on this blog.

  60. I truly hope that Owen Daniels sometime during the opening game drills and RUNS OVER Kerry Rhodes! This will show everyone how intimidating and elite he is!

  61. Ok fonzie first owens daniels isnt going to run over anyone ok second of all kerry is elite, he is not soft and he can hit i aint saying he gonna do a addrian wilson on anyone but he does enough somtimes to let the ball carrier know he is there and u think he failed to make a precense to opposing teams only because mangini was coach okay n dont tell me what to do fool i am together im just tired of guys like u and greenblood who dont know what their talkin about oh and the way SHUT THE HELL UP DUMBASS
