Link: Darrelle Revis thinks highly of himself

So, as I’m strolling through my Jets-related links, interviews, rankings and so on and so forth, I came across an interview that NewYorkJets.com did with Pro Bowl CB Darrelle Revis. I guessed it to be potential PR fluff, but some good filler for a Saturday afternoon.  Then, I actually read the first question. Needless to say, Darrelle Revis likes him some Darrelle Revis.

Who is the greatest athlete ever to come out of Pittsburgh?

There are a lot of great athletes to come out of Pittsburgh, but I think I’d have to be on the top.

Full disclosure: The rest of the interview is rather matter-of-fact, but I felt I had to point that out. Now, Darrelle is a phenomenal player and one of the best DBs in football, hands down and confidence never hurt. However, Dan Marino, Jason Taylor, Joe Montana,  Johnny Unitas, George Blanda and that Curtis Martin guy might have something to say about Revis being the best ever out of Steeltown.

UPDATE: Commenter David I. point out that they may be talking about the University of Pittsburgh. Good point, didn’t think about that. If so, the list is ammended but then adds a certain Mr. Dorsett.

  1. I think they meant University of Pittsburgh, so your list should be abbreviated. However, he is an excellent DB, but he is not even the best player to come out of Pitt that is active in the NFL. That would be Larry Fitzgerald.

  2. well i’m glad he is thingy highly of himself. I think rex ryan could of given him a more better feeling. jets 09 LETS GO!

  3. You would rather he say he is the third, fourth, tenth best?

    Yesh!

Attitude. Sorely lacking in these parts for the most part except when not justified as in the case of Key.

  4. Rex Ryan, Bart Scott, Kerry Rhodes, Darrelle Revis and the list goes on !! If you took a vote, we would cxl. the season and go straight to the trophy. Amazing, amazing, amazing. Way to go Rex !!!

  5. Well the question was who is the greatest athlete, not the greatest football player… There is a difference. Marino is an all time great, but as an athlete, he isn’t in Revis’ class… I’m not saying I agree with Revis either, but in this case, the answer is a little more subjective…

  6. Got to love his self confidence but I have to disagree. 2 Names that immediately come to mind are Larry Fitzgerald and the one and only future hall of famer…Curtis Martin

  7. Tony Dorsett was a phenomenal athlete for Pitt. I believe Ditka came out of Pitt as well as RelleRev’s hometown of Alquippa albeit probably not as athletic as Rev. I like that Rev shafts a phin. Definitely our defensive star!

  8. Lets hope he can shutdown the patriots. If we cant beat them how will we ever in the playoffs?

  9. I believe Joe Montana played for Notre Dame.

  10. There have been 5 HOF players who came from U of Pitt, and that doesn’t even include Curtis Martin. Pitt was also the home of Roger Kingdom, a 2-time Olympic gold medalist in the 110 hurdles and one of the best track stars of all time.

So Darrelle, while I usually love your self-confidence, no, I’m pretty sure you’re not the greatest athlete to ever come from Pitt.

  11. yeah, that Fitzgerald guy is pretty good I hear

  12. Jason Taylor , really, LOL. Article lost merit after I saw him included. MWWAAHHHHAHAHAHA!!!!
