Eric Allen of the New York Jets takes a look at Sean Payton’s words in Monday’s MMQB and comes to two conclusions. One I saw along with Allen and one I didn’t.
A skeptic might think Payton is trying to butter up the Jets before the match-up, but Payton isn’t Lou Holtz (When the former was with Notre Dame, he’d build up an overmatched opponent like no other).
If I’m a fan, I like Payton’s comments for a couple of reasons: 1.) His praise of Ryan gives you an idea of how the Jets’ new boss is respected by his peers and 2.) This guy knows quarterbacks and “he loves” Sanchez.
I liked the news about Sanchez which I keyed on Monday, but I didn’t pick up on Payton’s first point. It’s a good one, and I think that Rex Ryan has shown that he’s someone to be admired and respected by his players, and it’s good to hear he’s respected by his peers. Now all he needs to do is earn their respect by proving himself to be a winning coach.

has as much relevance as some putz chirping “I bet team X to win their region and Francessa picked them to make final 4, I like my chances.” We went 9-7, our QB threw 22 picks, and we upgraded 3 starters on defense, why SHOULDN’T we make the playoffs? Because according to consensus thought we are playing for 1 of the 2 wild cards as NE has won the division already? As Joe Pesci would say, “do the laws of physics ceases to exist in Tom Brady’s knees?” Healthy OL, Jenk, Revis and I think we win division.
