Link: Clowney Looking to Contribute
David Clowney has made it clear on his blog that he’s looking to make a much larger contribution come the regular season this year.
I’m excited for training camp because that means the season is almost here. I felt like I had a lot to prove last year but because of my injury I was only able to prove it during preseason and one game. I felt like what I did in that one game, I could have been doing all season.
Now it’s time to make it happen during the regular season for real. I spent the off-season working out with some great players, my old friend Brandon Flowers of the Chiefs, we grew up together and played together in high school and college. I also worked it hard with Keith Bulluck, Jevon Kearse, Samari Rolle, Jamal Lewis and Takeo Spikes.
Clowney looked good last summer, and has a lot to prove as he’s up for a new contract at the end of this year. He has the speed, and he thinks he’s put the time in, I can’t wait to see what he does on offense this season.

One thing seems sure– unless the Jets make a deal for WR he should get his shot.
I want Clowney to be the man, but he may be bubble man. Clowney’s deep speed can be the element that energizes the Jet Offense, it is very hard to defend deep speed if you got 8 in the box.Clowney is the perfect compliment to Cotchery and would open up intermediate zones for Keller and Cotch. But David is a big tease, he is hurt all the time, he has some serious drops, and although he hasn’t accomplished anything, we detect a little bit of diva. Rex commented the other day that he was looking for tough football players to come out of this camp, this does not bode well for David. Cotchery, Stuckey, Wright, and yes Brad Smith are locks, and it must be noted that Clowney does not play specials. Most teams go with 5 receivers (IMO the Jets will go with SIX), the only other speed receiver is Paul Raymond, who has no shot. The Jets could go big at number 5, Whittaker, Henry or Urrutia. If one of those guys has an outstanding camp, David could be unemployed…
Yes, I agree the Jets will go with 6 WRs, although Wallace Wright will be one of them and will probably continue to be mainly, if not completely just a special teamer. The only way they go with 5 is if Wright surprises and finds a role for himself as a wideout too.
Clowney has high expectations for himself, but I agree with JetOrange that it would only take one out of about five other guys to outshine him in camp and he could be fighting for his job. Especially when the reports from minicamp were saying that he had been a disappointment.
I think he’ll impress once we get to preseason, but he has a lot to prove. Good luck, David!
Clowney may be the key to the jets season barring injuries to the defense because i expect them to be top ten in the league. You know the running will be around its all about eh passing game which will determine how far we can go. So i hope he is a as good as he looked last pre season cuz we need a #2.
