News: Nick Mangold Injures Knee

By Bassett on 10. Aug, 2009

In the past week, more than a few key contributors have been held out of practice … including Kris Jenkins and Darrelle Revis, now we’re adding Nick Mangold to that list.

However, coach Rex Ryan said the injury to Mangold’s right knee is not believed to be serious. He said there is no ligament damage, and that he doesn’t know the timetable of Mangold’s return but he may miss a practice or two.

“Anytime you deal with a knee it is a little scary,” Ryan said, adding that “he should be fine.”

PFT warns that initial diagnoses can be premature, as the Browns saw with Hadnot. Mangold has had some tweaks in the past, and I’m struggling to find it online, but I think that it was his right knee … not sure if this injury was to that same knee.

It’s good to hear that he doesn’t think it’s serious, and that a little rest will be the remedy, but with a new regime and a new camp facility, it’s hard to tell if the team has had more injuries this season on these (untested by pros) fields at Cortland. Or, is it the frank talk injuries talk is to blame?

Certainly there were always a few tweaks here and there that would cause Mangini to hold players out, but we never knew the reasoning. Still it’s hard not to think that the fields are at least worth investigating … though I haven’t seen it reported on at all.

I took the drive up from Farmingdale Long Island Saturday for Sunday’s practice. it was a great time. THe weather was bad so i didn’t stay for the special teams practice. mangold went down and it didn;t look too serious. he was lying on his stomach for about 30 seconds but then hopped up without help. He walked to the side where the trainer was looking at it. Hee was walking very gingerly on it for a few minutes until they walked to the locker room and he was nowhere tobe seen for the remainder of practice. I will say this though. Although Mangold is an unbelievable piece of our O-Line and I hope he comes back and doesn;t miss a play this season, The Jets have a great 6th man in Robert Turner. he’s a beast. He was playign very well yesterday and had some very nice plays in 1 on 1′s.

Sanchez looked like absolute garbage yesterday. He was taking the majority of the sanps with the first team while KC was running with the 2nd unit. Mark was consistently missing open receivers. At one point Schott threw his ahdns up and yelled in disgust as he overthrew an open receiver in theabck of the endzone.
kellen was much more on target, had some nice passes. They closed the practice with a 2 miute drill and MArk Sanchez wen 3 and out with the 1st squad while Kellen drove his team to the goal line.

No WR’s really stuck out to me besides Cotchery. The RB’s all lookd great. Shonn greene broke a very nice run against the first team for a TD.

Calvin Pace is a bohemith. He is an absolute monster. Bart Scott was doing some good chirping. it was hysterical, I heard him say something to one fo the backs to he effect of “…just like your daddy used to do” Vernon Gholston was not impressive to me at all. The LB’s were hitting a sled with right inf ront of me, and he looked a little soft in the way he hit it. Westerman looks like he could be one of those gems.

WR’s and qb’s signed after practice. It was stupid because they have VIP’s which take priority over the normal fan. THey get brought down to the field, given cards and get to meet the players. Some of the players broke through the VIPline and came to the stands to sign. I was able to get Cotchery and Sanchez to sign mine and my girl’s jerseys.

The facilities at Cortland are nice. It was a nice stadium for a D-III school. I was so spoiled with training camp 10 miutes from my house where I could just go in the morning or afternoon at the drop of the dime. Cortland was a nice town. I took the advice of this site and went to DOug’s Fish Fry. It was freaking amazing. Fod was great and the atmosphere was unbelievable. The guy was a true Jets Die-Hard. Everywhere you looked in the place was coverd with jets. he had his workers wearing jets themedshirts and hats. he even created his own NY Jets Sunday. it was jsut an awesome place and the food was great. Definitley check it out if you go up there.

It was a great experience. I’d definitley go back in a heartbeat, but wouldn;t drive ack on a Sunday ngiht again as I got killed in traffic on 17 and at the bridge. Practice was awesome. It was over 2 hours and crisp with a lot of hard hitting. Jenkins was clowning around at the end with the O-lineman. He was in shorts and a t-shirt having been on the bike. he looks like he’llbe back and stuffing the mddle in no time. IF you can make the trip, do it. They’re only signed there for a 1 year contract and i’d definitley check it out in case they move somewhere else next year. I got some great pics and great vdeo coverage of the QB’s that I’ll post once my girlfriend uploads it from her camera

    See you at Hofstra Wednesday!!!

I think you’re trying to over analyze the situation here. Injuries happen sometimes in football.

Training camp 2-a-days and we’re only 1 week in…guys get banged up…you hope for nothing serious, but there will be minor injuries every day.

I heard that Damien Woody got injured this morning. Not sure whether it was serious or not.

This was an o-line that was practically untouched (injury wise) last season. It’s unlikely that will happen again this year (or any year, really) so depth becomes a question.

Mangold is a machine, this doesn’t worry me at all.
