Another Boston area paper is talking about the Patriots overstocking at the Tight End position and wondering who the cuts are going to be. Unfortunately I thought the Jets would get to snag one of theirs, but maybe there’s a curveball which I didn’t anticipate.
Of the tight ends currently on the Patriots roster, at least one, possibly two, will be released before the season starts. New England usually carried two, sometimes three tight ends last year, but occasionally kept four.
After the loss of Heath Evans to free agency, the Patriots have no fullback on the roster which means they may keep an extra tight end for blocking purposes.
The loss of Evans, one of the team’s best blockers was a tough loss for the Patriots, but keeping an extra Tight End might be their move here, meaning slim pickings for the Jets off their roster.

Not to toot my own horn but I mention the lack of a FB on the Pats roster when the first post went up about the TE’s a wek ago.

Kevan Barlow was no disaster! now Cedric Houston, on the other hand, was a waste of a draft pick

Cedric Houston was a decent player. His decision to leave the NFL for personal reasons came out of nowhere.

rotoworld.com mentioned something about Dante Rosario (TE, Carolina) being a possible roster cut.
He was a “week one darling” with his seven catch, 96 yard, TD performance.
He has size and NFL experience. I don’t know anything about his blocking, but 2 out of 3 is more than what our backups have.

The only thing I care about the Pats right now is how poorly their O-line play was last night and if it is any indication of things to come, with Ryan’s exotic blitz packages, we might be able to feast on Brady this year.

If the plan was to have the Pats help us out that was an ill conceived plan. I like a lot of what Tannenbaum has done in his reign but his failure to address his team’s biggest weakness year after year is his biggest shortcoming. RB his first year. (Think Kevan Barlow disaster) OL (Think Pete Kendall disaster) and now a blocking TE.
