Buzz: Jets Interested in Eagles Receivers?
Are the Jets sniffing around the door of the Iggles for a potential Wide Receiver? \
Quite possibly reports philly.com.
At least two teams – the Ravens and the Jets – are keeping a close eye on the Eagles’ wide receiver situation.
The Eagles have an excess of wealth there right now. There’s a good chance they’ll deal one of their wide receivers – perhaps Reggie Brown – before the final roster cutdown.
The Jets don’t have much experience at the position beyond Jerricho Cotchery. The next four wideouts on their depth chart have a total of 92 career receptions.
And then there’s the Vick Factor. 53 roster spots sounds like a lot, but when you boil it down, it’s not. Keep in mind that even though Mike Vick is listed as a QB, due to the rules around activating QBs, the Eagles might make some moves to list him elsewhere if they have plans to make him active for gameday. To me, if the Eagles plan to use Vick in a Wildcat role, it makes more sense to list him as a receiver — though I have no knowledge about that. The result then would be that the team is likely to make one more cut into the Eagles receiving corps than normal.
Here’s a quick look at the Eagles’ depth chart.
- Kevin Curtis
- DeSean Jackson
- Jeremy Maclin (1st Rounder)
- Reggie Brown
- Hank Baskett
- Jason Avant
- Danny Amendola
- Brandon Gibson (6th Rounder)
After years of having too few quality WRs, the Eagles are in the opposite position this offseason. Although Kevin Curtis is listed at the top of their charts, I have to wonder what the team is thinking about him. He’s been injured this summer, so it might be hard to trade him. Reggie Brown or Hank Baskett might be players that the team can actually trade.
I wonder if Kendra would immediately divorce Baskett once he’s no longer an Eagle … probably.

Im down with getting Reggie Brown IF the Broncos are asking for too much for Marshall.
Getting Baskett would be a nice pick up 6′4 and a solid frame. Would nice compliment to J-Co and Clowney . But I dont think they will let Hands Baskett go anyway.
Little biased to Baskett though as we both UNM alum.
The other WRs are all 6′1″ or less, so I can’t see them giving up Baskett (who would be the best fit on the Jets for just that reason). I think they’ll most likely end up trading Reggie Brown to the Ravens.
None of these guys are the go-to #1 WR that Sanchez can play pitch-and-catch with for the next 5-7 years.
Marshall (25) and Edwards (26) are both young, talented, and available.
Maybe they don’t want Maclin anymore hahah
Off topic . I’m watching pennington vs the bucs . I don’t miss him at all. A pass just floated on him according to the announcers.
honestly this is NOT the answer at all…Brandon Marshall or go sign Matt Jones…
I was just watching the Eagles vs. Jags game and both Deshaun Jackson and Jeremy Maclin look real good. I was especially impressed with Maclin who is just a rookie, you can tell he will be an impact player.
Anyone see Brandon Marshall go nuts at Broncos practice today?

mike- Baskett is 26, and comes with much less baggage than Marshall and Edwards. Marshall wouldnt last 5min in NY. And Edwards still cant catch a pass.
and when are we all gonna get over this Matt Jones thing. This time next year he will be delivering meat with Icky Woods.
Seriously Matt freakin Jones!?!
Neil- thanks for emphasizing my point.
and people still keep calling for this guy!
OK Ill admit Marshall’s attitude is bad BUT I will say he wants out what do you expect him to run everywhere and catch passes and smile for the Camera. He wants out they aren’t giving him up so he is PUSHING IT BIG TIME.
Hank baskett or reggie brown ??? Come on y would we want either of them??
Green Lantern#80
I could’nt agree more!!! Marshall has been a top 5 WR in the league, & truly deserves his payday!!! He might have some off field issues, but who the hell does’nt!!! If we could work out a trade 4 him, We’ll immediately improve our chances at a super bowl run, and is’nt that what we’re working towards??? Marshall, “clearly”, wants out of Denver, & he wants to get paid!!! I say bring him in here, give him his payday, and Mark Sanchez will have another weapon at his disposal!!!
Besides, do you honestly think Rex could’nt handle a chucklehead, like Marshall???
Really, Rex is a players coach but he has dealt with some of the toughest players in the league you think he can’t get a Receiver in check.
Brown’s a decent vet and Baskett is 6-4. I’d lean towards Brown because the Jets could use a vet, but maybe someone better will pop up on the final cut lists.
I just watched the video Neil posted. All i can say is wow. First off, if i was the broncos i would be dying to get rid of him because he’s not a team player at all. With that said i definitely don’t want him on the Jets! He’s worse than TO & I hate players act like this. He’s a very talented Knucklehead that will divide the locker room .
It a shame that Rex Ryan doesn’t want Matt Jones on the team because i think he would be great and we could get him for cheap. He’s like 6′5 or 6′6 i think.
Unlike other people posting i dont think we need a big time WR because honestly i don’t want Sanchez to throw to much this season. I much rather let him learn by dumping off to the flats and other short passes.
Last thought: I’m watching the bucs game as i write this and i’m so glad we didnt pick up Josh Freeman.
that video was the funniest thing ive ever seen. He’s acting out because he wants a trade though, and wouldnt do that here, but i’d still rather have edwards because of marshall’s attitude problem. As far as eagles recievers go, i’d love to have baskett.
and vince you make a good point. most of sanchez’s completions so far this preseason have been to leon and keller. correct me if i’m wrong, but, Leon has 2 catches from sanchez, keller has 3, and clowney has 1. I’m not sure if that means our recievers are not getting enough seperation or if sanchez favors backs and tight ends as his security blankets. It would still be nice to have a big name on the outside that defenses would respect enough not to put 8 in the box all game.
They gotta do what they can to get a Brandon Marshall type WR. A young stud that Sanchez can build some chemistry with for many years to come. Cotch would be a perfect #2 WR with Keller in the slot. The Jets got quite possibly the most dangerous weapon in the NFL in Leon. He has to be the most underutalized, underrated and under appreciated player in the NFL. He led the NFL in all-purpose yards last year and outside of returns didn’t get much action in the backfield. Let’s go get a big time young WR at whatever cost and get Leon the goddam ball.
Nice link Neil….how did you happen to find this? You pick up Colorado new channels or something ?
Neil
Thanks for the video link.
For all of you that say that Marshall’s off field issues can be dealt with, WHAT ABOUT HIS ON FIELD ISSUES.
The video was disgraceful. At least Keyshawn wanted the damn ball!
Send Marshall to Oakland, and I’ll take my chances with the Sanchez-Wright chemistry.!
For what its worth, Kendra is a Chargers fan…
Hmmm… A talented wide receiver acting badly? Stop the presses! (LOL)
Hopefully, what worked for Jay Cutler will work for Marshall (and the Jets).
Otherwise, I wish Sexy Rexy like Matt Jones. He’s got size, speed and whole lot of potential. Seems have got his stuff together too.
Avant had something like 5 catches for 92 yards in the first half alone.
To anyone who is interested in Matt Jones. We already have an athletic college QB converted into a WR that can only run end arounds and can’t catch the ball. His name is Brad Smith. But Smith plays pretty good special teams and can run the Wild Cat. Therefor, he is more valuable than Matt Jones, who’s only other talent is shared with Sean Ellis. He knows how to roll a joint, while driving his car with his knees.
Secondly, that Brandon Marshall video Neil posted is unreal. That guy is a cancer to that team. However, who knows, but Jay Cutler has already proven that Josh Daniels has really gone into Denver and irked some people, but can move on once they get fresh air somewhere else and then put it behind him and be professional. Maybe. Hopefully. But I doubt it.
David. The difference between Jones and Brad Smith is that Jones has actually put up decent WR numbers in the NFL. As for you guys who watched Miami and Chad last night I enjoyed tormenting my wife, a misguided Fin fan every time he checked it down and completed a 6 yd pass on 3rd and 12. So familiar and painful to watch.
ramble … maclin was the guy that i wanted for the jets at 17 … see why draft day was my personal hell? lol
Reggie Brown? No thanks, I’ll take Clowney by far over the scraps at the Eagles table.
I’d want Brandon Gibson if he was somehow cut. He was a 2nd-3rd round talent that fell to round 6 because he played in an awful school.
They’re not giving up Curtis or Jackson. What on the field issues? That’s not a game with paychecks. Brandon Marshall is a professional on the field, always giving one hundred percent. The guy doesn’t even showboat after a touchdown. Cutler threw the same fits, but nobody’s complaining. Anyway, there’s so much stability and leadership on the JETS that will not likely happen. If anybody is being a cancer it would be combination of Daniels and Cutler. Daniels could be a career killer for players…..Orton might not come out looking good also, then there’s Royal. Here’s a shocker, see how calm Harrison is, well try annoying him and see what happens.
As in Marvin.
