Link: Golden Opportunity for Jets Second Teamers

Looking forward to the Eagles game this week, Andy Reid is wondering how he’ll use Vick against the Jets.

In five plays as a quarterback from the shotgun, he completed all four of his passes — one of them right-handed — for 19 yards and ran the ball for 1 yard. He even lined up as a decoy in the slot for one play.

So how will Eagles coach Andy Reid use Vick in Thursday night’s preseason game against the New York Jets at the Meadowlands?

“I haven’t thought about that much, but yeah, I’ll be curious how he does if and when that happens,” Reid said Saturday. “There’s a chance, and I have the confidence he can do that. He’s played a couple years in this league.”

I know, I know … there’s no starters so who cares? The truth is that the Jets will have a great opportunity to see how well their second team linebackers (Murrell, Westermann, etc.) can contain or harry a mobile QB like Vick. This will be a real test to see just how deep our linebackers are.

Is Gholston going to play or is he being called a starter? Either way, I’d rather seem him in.

  2. avatar AKA...Drew says:

Gholston and Pace should play the whole damn game

  3. avatar someguy says:

Gholston needs any experience he can get, Pace on the other hand should only play the first half, even if he wont get in until week 5.

It looks like Deon Branch will be cut in Seattle. Does anyone know what it would take to get him if hes cut? He doesn’t seem like a bad guy to add to the mix if he is cheap.

On Westerman: I noticed he lined up at RE in the 4th quarter and seemed to be very successful rushing the QB vs. the Giants.. I realize it was against a 2nd/3rd team left tackle, but i love this kid.. he’s going to be great wheter his hand is in the dirt, or he’s in as a linebacker..

On Gholston: Why not put him at his natural position, as an end, and have him in that rotation.. That’s where his skill set is, rushing the QB.. Why are they dead-set on making him a linebacker? I’m having trouble understanding that.

Go JETS, i’m ready for Thursday!!!

    JetObsessed,

In a 3-4 you need to be 300 lbs to play DE, not 260. Gholston is not a player, you just have to watch him running around not involved to see that.

  7. avatar Cabras says:

Lito Shepperd better get used to getting the ball thrown his way, it may be a long season for him.

  8. avatar Matt says:

Stuckey was great, but i think it’d be better to have a flat out burner like Clowney in the num 2 slot.
In addition to that thought… A message to all Jets fans…
Sept 20th home opener vs. the Pats better be the loudest friggin game on the planet!! 12th man!!! No more negative jerks thinkin 8-8 is a blessing! Follow Ryan’s positive thinking… 11-5 or better!!!! Let’s make it so Brady can’t even hear himself think down after down, let alone stand up after Bart Scott & Co. plant his A$$ in the friggin dirt!!!! Don’t plan on leavin that game ’till you can’t talk!!! C’mon, it’s about time we have somethin to cheer about! Say it w/ me J! -E! – T! – S! Jets! Jets! Jets!

With no 1st team starters playing in Exhibition game 4, why play it??? Better yet, why should the greedy owners charge full price for tickets to this meaningless game??? The answer because the NFL has greedy owners. Baseball owners charge significantly lower prices for their exhibition games.

Woody “The Weasel” was on YES last night. After he gave his prresentation on the new stadium, the YES commentators remarked that the JETS were discounting 2009 season tickets by as much as 20%. Obviously they are not charging some fans for pre-season games.

Also the YES commentators mentioned that Woody was going to clear $75 million in profits on the new stadium. That includes all expenses and costs for the new stadium including $40 million in interest on the loans. When the loans are paid off, he will clear $115 million. So why did the JETS have to charge PSL fees if Woody can pay of the loan in about 10 years?? Because he doesn’t give a damn about the fans and is another GREEDY OWNER. For all of you who paid PSL fees, you were suckered in by the Weasel.

  10. avatar Cabras says:

    Ed,

Agreed, Woody wants to sell tickets 1st, win 2nd.

Wait until they have a little success and watch the ticket prices creep upwards each year.

They have not even sold out for 2009, if they have a bad season they will not sell out 2010 either.

  11. avatar Pete57 says:

Ed, it’s his team, he can make as much money as he wants. Don’t you try to make money? Why do youhave a problem with Woody. Say what you want, but he wants the Jets to be a winner, you can’t ask for more than that out of an owner. He builds the team the best practice facilities in the league, and has a GM that is very active and creative.

It’s the fans who spend the money that is the problem. I rarely go to games anymore because of the cost. Without even getting to the price of the ticket, I will not pay $20 to park!

When the fans get tired of paying, the prices will come down

  12. avatar Harvlis says:

    Cabras,

After seeing the Giant rookies eat Lito for supper — I want Clowney to start. Why not let him get experience, instead of letting a washed up corner bring us down.

    Mr. Ed,

This game will be a great opportunity for management to look at the back-ups and to give the back-ups some experience. It will be great for our guys to have the opportunity to contain Vick. It gives us another look at players who have not had much time. I want to see Ainge more — can he become the number two QB? I want to see Marquis Cole at corner — we need to sit Lito Shepherd on the bench. Let’s see the back-up punter. The results of all pre-season games mean nothing — it’s all about experience in game situations.

  13. avatar The Ed(itor) says:

I don’t have a problem with Woody The Weasel making more money, but don’t make $115 million more a year and screw JETS fans by charging PSL license fees. That is just being greedy. It is his team, and if he wants to play before a half empty stadium and lose a lot of long term fans, that is also his problem.

I wish the JETS team luck in 2009 and Woody The Weasel nothing but back luck.

  14. avatar The Ed(itor) says:

I don’t have a problem watching back ups in game 4, just don’t charge regular season prices. Again greedy Woody The Weasel raises his head.

  15. avatar Almost a Giant Fan says:

    Let’s ask ourselves some questions?

    1. Who has put out a better product over the last five years, Jets or Giants?
    2. Why is the Giants’ media guide free and online at their website, but the Jets charge $25 before postage and handling?
    3. Why are there no PSLs in the upper deck for the Jets and no way to pass those tickets on to your kids or other family members while the Giants have only a $1000 PSL for most seats with the four mid-field sections costing a Jet Season ticket holder $200 more after four years without a PSL, while a Giant Season ticket hold will have a PSL and pay $200 less.
    4. And finally – How will the view be from the upper deck of the new stadium where the first row is further from the field than the last row at Giant Stadium?
    Bonus Question
Do you know any fan, who wanted a new stadium?

  16. avatar The Ed(itor) says:

Only Woody The Weasel wanted a new stadium and there are $115 million reasons why.
