News: Shonn Greene is Back to Practice

by Bassett on August 31st, 2009 at 2:49 pm

M.A. Mehta reports today that Shonn Greene was back on the field in practice this morning.

Shonn Greene, who missed Saturday’s preseason game against the Giants due to cartilage damage in his ribs, looked fine in the 40-minute portion of practice open to the media Monday morning. Greene was injured during the Week 2 Monday night loss in Baltimore. Two weeks ago, Ryan said that Greene would miss the remainder of the preseason due to the rib injury. But we’ll see if that’s changed after the coach speaks to the media later Monday.

Greene seems like a good player, and it’s clear that Ryan is overly cautious with some of the guys he wants to be ready to go for a full season, but if Greene’s been this dinged up in camp, it’s hard to know how healthy he can be for the course of an entire NFL season.

Keep an eye on this and who the Jets keep at running back going into the season.

anyone know when final cuts are?

  2. avatar AKA...Drew says:

His running style will lead to these types of nagging injuries. He is an animal but he needs to stay on the field…We are going to need Greene to contribute this year..

Why did we release M Mason again?

  3. avatar Brendan says:

    Because we have Danny Woodhead!!!!!!!!

    …so stupid

I don’t think a ding or two in preseason is indicative of how the season will turn out for him.

  5. avatar Addage says:

I think your concerns are misplaced. Ryan knows that healing time is hard to come by during the season. Even if you have some dings, you have to play. It’s smart to let guys heal during preseason. And as we saw in games 1 and 2, Greene pushes hard even with nagging injuries. Better to have him at full strength for the season opener.

If Greene feels good — this is the game to start him and give him the majority of the workload. If not, I would agree with Addage. Enough with Woodhead. Although the Woodman always runs for positive yardage — it is two yards at a time. The Jets need to find someone behind Greene. There are a great deal of good backs that will become available after cuts are made.

It may be too early, but Greene is starting to look like a glassjaw. I thought we were getting another Greg Jones, who should have been a running back.

If you have any questions about Greene I suggest you AGAIN look at some of he video footage on youtube. This guy is a horse, how come you don’t mention Stuckey in this conversation he’s been injured the last 2 years of his college and football career? But here he is now contributing. Stop it already! Shheeesssshhhh.

Lucky enough to be a Hawkeye fan and Jets fan I got to watch Shonn all last season. Because of his style he had nagging injuries all last season and missed some practice due to it but come game time it didnt matter if he was injured or not. He went off the field several times mid game but then came back in later to punish people again. Basically saying enough with the Glass Jaw talk!

  12. avatar Brett Justin says:

woodhead has looked solid this pre season and i think hell get a lot of carries this last game…i hope he makes the team.

About Greene being a “glassjaw”, one word of warning– I’m an Iowa fan and the entire time he was here he’d scare the crap out of me because he’d always get up after a run like I get out of bed in the morning. Not sure if he was intentionally putting on a show, but every other play I thought his season was over. Then 30 seconds later he was steamrolling guys again.

    maui

jim brown used to do that…now im not saying greene is brown but the thing with brown was no1 really knew if he was hurt or not…by the way he always got up after a running play…
