Buzz: Broncos Want Harris ‘In Any Deal’ For Brandon Marshall

ESPN NFL rumor guru Adam Schefter (who has close ties to the Broncos from his beat reporting days) is reporting from more than one source that if the Jets want Marshall, then David Harris is part of the deal.

The Denver Broncos would want New York Jets linebacker David Harris in any trade scenario for wide receiver Brandon Marshall, two NFL sources tell ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Wednesday.

There is no indication that the Jets would surrender Harris, who was fifth on the Jets in tackles last season despite playing only 11 games due to groin surgery. He led the Jets in tackles the previous season.

Marshall has requested a trade from the Broncos, and new coach Josh McDaniels finally suspended him this week for conduct detrimental to the team.

In any trade for Marshall, Denver would reportedly like a player that could contribute to its team this season and a draft pick that would help later on. But the Broncos aren’t making any deal if they don’t think it improves them now. That has left them without a viable deal. McDaniels went so far to say that the Broncos aren’t shopping their disgruntled receiver.

McDaniels has gotten a pretty good look at Harris over the past two years, having to scheme against him on more than one occasion. The Broncos seem to be making all the statements that they want to keep Marshall, but then they go claim that one of the Jets best “bang for the buck” players would have to be part of the deal. Interesting. It’s a well played move by the Broncos at the Jets and their fans especially after the tampering brouhaha earlier today. Harris is a beloved and promising figure. The knife has been wisted.

Harris was a second round pick who Bryan Cox make a plea for in the washroom to Mike Tannenbaum after the selection of Darrelle Revis in 2007. Harris is a smart player, and has been nothing less than an exemplary citizen for the Jets in his two plus years. As far as the draft pick portion, I’m not sure what the Broncos would ask for in addition to Harris, but I’d imagine the pick would be minimal by the language above, falling somewhere between the 4th -7th rounds. (See Update below)

Hypothetically speaking, let’s just imagine the Jets were to do this deal:

The Jets give up David Harris, a guy who was born to be a 3-4 ILB and, let’s say a 5th round pick. To make that deal, the Jets would have to feel pretty good about their depth behind Harris. Jamaal Westerman and Marques Murrell are guys that the team might like, but is the team ready to throw one of them into a starting role with Bart Scott? Highly unlikely. It would take, not only a team strength, but arguably one of the best 3-4 ILB duos in the league away from the Jets. If you saw last Saturday’s game, you saw how much a difference those two can make for the defense against the run and pass.

I get that people want to add a receiver. I just can’t see that removing David Harris from the equation to do it.

Trying to weigh it all out on the cosmic scales … what do you think?

UPDATE: Manish Mehta reports that it would be David Harris AND a first round pick

  1. no thank you. you can keep your crybaby wide reciever mcdumbass. i was all for getting brandon marshall but only if the price was right. ive since changed my mind. we should address it in the draft next season, pay leon, and continue to groom what we have. good luck this season with your time bomb of a wide reciever and no quarterback baby bill.

  2. absolutely not

  3. No way. Not Harris . IMO We need to chill on this Brandon Marshall trade and sign Leon. He’s got too many issues and we need Harris more than we need his drama.

  4. No chance in the world this happens….

The Broncos are trying to front as if they have leverage….you have a WR who is going to need a bigger contract, has been in trouble just about every year and is currently suspended because you won’t grant him a trade……

Get real Josh McDaniels. You already let the franchise QB walk and you’re making yourself look foolish yet again.

  5. no

  6. Love Harris – but make the trade, sign Derrick Brooks and Draft a MLB in round 2 Next Yr.(after CB, DL or OL in Round 1).

  7. There is no way we do this deal. The signature of our team is going to be defense no matter who is playing WR. Being strong up the middle with Scott, Harris, and Jenkins is the lynchpin of the whole scheme. Why screw that up?

  8. NO F***ING WAY!!!!!!!!! They can keep the malcontent and let him poison the thin air in Demver.

  9. NO CHANCE.

I blame tannenbaum for all of this. They should not have been poking around in this direction. It is a joke. I feel like every move he makes, he is trying to save his job. I think it’s time we start looking at a new GM, and not a new receiver. I’m sick and tired about hearing him say, “well, we are just going through the process and doing our due dillagence.” Tannenbaum has never played a damn down in football and has NO idea what talent is. Anyone could have picked Sanchez. Let’s get ready for the season.

  10. Yeah, not gonna happen, nor should it. I’d rather see keyshawn’s corpse out there for the Jets than give away Harris.

  11. NOPE. And I want Marshall Bad.

  12. Make that Denver.

  13. Brendan,

can we forget about this bum now and got on with the season? i agree we need a number one, but not this guy. check out dez bryant from oklahoma state. lets wait on him in the draft. we might go 6-10. injuries, rookie qb and so on.

  14. i’ve also seen cotchery’s name thrown around this blog as a component in a possible trade too. we cant trade cotchery for this bum. i’d rather have a productive reliable guy who goes about his buisness the right way and keeps his mouth shut. cotchery is one of our best offensive talents he is electric after the catch and he was drafted and groomed by the jets. we dont need a guy like marshall in our locker room.

  15. no way Marshall is a risk to begin with. I want him but not at that price.

  16. BRENDAN,

    http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1772842/nfl_draft_2010_profile_dez_bryant_wr.html?cat=14

  17. Just say no…

I would have a hard time sending David Harris to the Broncos for Brandon Marshall and RECEIVING a second round pick..

  18. If Tanny makes this move, it is out of pure desperation to save his job. Marshall for Harris is a bad deal for the Jets, because it would actually be Harris and Leon Washington for Marshall. There is no way we can keep Leon if we have to sign Marshall to a new deal.

  19. LOL, not a chance I’d do this.

    A. Harris is as far as you could possibly get from a problem, he should be here for the next 10+ years without any issue.
    B. Marshall is a HUGE problem.
    C. If you give Marshall a big contract so he won’t be a problem, Leon will be a problem.
    D. I don’t know if you take him over Harris on this team even without the first 3 points.

  20. meh. I don’t think so.

  21. SAVE THE DRAFT PICKS!

    SAVE DAVID HARRIS!

IF they really feel the need to upgrade should give Jones a chance, he only has an addiction problem, Marshall has mental problems.

I can’t even imagine what I will do if this idiot Mr T gives up Harris and draft pick for this jerk.

Thankfully, I think Rex loves Harris and will never sign off on this.

  22. Hmm…

we traded jonathon vilma so we could let david harris be the lb. david harris sets an example off the field and is a force to be reckoned on the field.

brandon marshall is a troubled wr. he’s always in the news, and it always seems like its bad news. he’s a cry baby and gets into loads of trouble off the field. he is a locker room terror and sooner or later if the jets got him he would split it up… or get arrested…

why take the risk? especially at the expense of one of the jets best players. are the broncos serious with this offer? they have no leverage, their entire team is falling apart, they’re star player is refusing to play for them and is willing to sit out to prove a point. if anything the jets have the leverage here. if tannenbaum makes a trade involving harris for marshall… or any other player that is significant to teh jets this year and to their future… he should be fired. not only for making such a horrendous trade but for also showing he is a weak gm.

  23. demaryius thomas is better than brandon marshall. we will easily be able to pick up a good reciever in next years draft. enough big names we need solid role players who go out and play with no complaints.

  24. i wouldnt trade harris for larry fitz let alone this ass clown…NO thanksss

  25. Lj,

DEZ BRYANT FROM OSU. HE IS GOOD.

    http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1772842/nfl_draft_2010_profile_dez_bryant_wr.html?cat=14

  26. Not just no but Hell No!

  27. Alex,

I’m going to say Tanny knows talent at least decently. Seeing how he’s brought in Jones, Leon, Jenkins, Harris, Scott, Pace, Leonhard, Harris, Revis, Mangold, D’brick, Faneca, Woody, stuckey, keller, and sanchez. You can’t blame him for poking his head around and finding out the price. He could’ve inquired and found out it’d take a lot less.

I’d love Bryant, but I think he’s going to end up being a top 10 pick. I doubt we’ll be bad enough to land him. I still would have liked to get Marshall, but just not at the price of 1/2 the heart of our defense.

  28. Id trade two Dave Harris’s for Fitz….

  29. Let me start by saying I friggin’ love David Harris!!! The man is a tackling machine!!! That said, I would make this trade yesterday!!! Everyone is basing there feelings about Marshall on his Knucklehead antics from the other day, but thats ridiculous!!! Marshall clearly wants out of Denver, & is doing whatever he can too get his way, but Marshall is a top 5 WR in the entire league, & would definately help this team make the playoffs, & possibly, get to a Super Bowl, & thats what we’re striving for, Is’nt it???

  30. NO GO – No Way do we surrender Harris. Forget the deal if thats the case. I don’t blame them for asking. but no thanks. Plus Marshall is an a-h o le.

  31. alex i am aware of dez bryant. he plays in a spread offense though so i am a bit weary of him. i love the way he plays but does he have enough speed to get separation in the nfl? i also love damien williams from usc, reminds me a ton of chad johnson minus the problems. he’s a great kid.

  32. Hilarious. Just hilarious.

  33. LARGEBARGE,

not a shot. our strength is up the middle. u don’t need a dominant wr to win in this league. we need to establish an identity. we are a smash mouth team, that’s going to run the ball 35 times a game, and play good defense, and not turn it over. getting rid of harris negates what our identity is to a team. he is one of our leaders on D.

  34. No way! If Mr. T can hold his water for a couple of more days, the Jets could probably get Marshall for less than Harris. Marshall is forcing his way out. of Denver. Let him help you create leverage. Sit tight, Mr. T…….please!

  35. No chance of this happening.

I think it’s posturing by Denver. I bet you could get them to take Stuckey and a pick.

  36. Lj,

send me a link on the williams kid from USC if you have it in front of you. to be honest, and not that i don’t think we need a good wr, but give me more DL, and OL. more, more and more!!! LOL. but send me some stuff on the williams kid.

    Brendan,
i know. but his drafts are iffy. do you trust tannenbaum?

  37. If this happens, we all storm the Jets office!!!!

  38. i wouldve done this trade for a draft pick and a back up, whether it be clemens clowney or whoever, but once you start messing with our young talent, that just aint right.

  39. There’s always Matt Jones…

  40. So, i gather i am not the only one thinking this is a bad idea. Good, i´d hate to lose harris too

  41. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xbrgvxl–o8 there u go alex. its also a plus because of the chemistry he already has with sanchez. hes a junior next year but he’ll be one of the top wr’s regardless so i expect him to declare.

  42. igs,

get me matt jones!!!!!!!!!!! what is the problem. he is a no risk proposition. if he plays 16 games last year he has 85 catches, and 1100 yards. what is wrong with that?? it wouldn’t cost us anything.

  43. I don’t believe Mr. T would make this trade, so I’m not sweating it.

  44. Uhhhh No. Im all about getting Marshall but not for Harris… No Way. The Broncos have actually become a less desirable team than the Lions. Thats so so sad. We got another Mangenious on our hands in Denver. I think the altitude is getting to him.

  45. alex,

as far as 3-4 ends are concerned, that nmdakong suh guy will probably be a top 5 pick, so hopefully we’re in no position to get him, but i like arthur jones from syracuse or vince oghabaase from duke. both are dt’s in college but can transition to a 3-4 end.

  46. get marshall and keep harris 1st and 3rd is good enough

  47. I still dont believe Denver asked for this though. Writers with good sources can still be wrong sometimes.

  48. Ok let me get this right the Broncos trade Cutler for Kyle Orton and some picks, but want a proven possible All Pro Middle Linebacker for Marshall. This is ridiculous. Screw McRoberts and forget about Marshall how much will Sanchez really throw to receivers in his rookie year. Re Up Leon is the right choice but knowing the Jets front office yeah the same guys that traded for old man Favre they will salvage the future for a Keyshawn Lite.

  49. Lj,

thanks bro. he looks a little bit small. does he weigh around 200lbs??
is he a slot receiver or a legit number one?

  50. another story like this will get TJB over the 100,000 mark. But we should hold out the price will go down.

  51. suh is the guy from nebraska right? he is a beast no doubt. keep the pick and get a DE. we have absolutely no one to play that position with any upside at this point.

  52. bart scott doesnt need help do it it our only hope

  53. What a joke. I want to see the Josh McDaniels/ Brandon Marshall circus keep going for the entire season. Maybe he can use him as a punter instead and boost his trade value?

  54. 6′1 195. i’m not sure whether he will be a number one but he’s real polished, great hands, and is a better route runner than anyone playing the college game right now. he’s just a smooth player. he reminds me alot of hakeem nicks last year.

  55. If anyone thinks this is a good move they’ve been living in a bubble. If you didn’t see the way harris and scott were playing together you’re blind. There’s no talent on the bench to replace a harris or even hold his jock. This would be retarded. I’d sell my tix right away

  56. anyone want to comment on matt jones???

  57. Seems like we have close unanimity—-Harris out of the question. Let BM hang out in Bronco Land for a while—-the price will go down—-cannot see any team giving up someone the caliber of Harris.

  58. Jones is nice to wish for but Rex already said he doesn’t like him it’s highly unlikely.

  59. I think Matt Jones would be great for us. But for some reason Rex doesnt like him.

  60. he likes marshall but not jones??? so he is into beating women, but not into coke??? wtf???? i think jones would be so good on this team. big target for sanchez in the middle of the field along with keller. cotch and stuckey, and leon in on third down. what is wrong with that?

  61. Alex,

I’m right there with you. I just don’t get what the problem is.

  62. You can stop beating women Coke is hard to get away from.

  63. Igs/Alex Morizio,

FINALLY! Someone other than myself that wants to see Matt Jones get a shot! Unfortunately, he’s getting a workout with the Titans tomorrow I believe.

I am generally quite surprised to see how many people would turn down this trade possibility. I am of the opinion that its much harder to draft a WR out of college than it is to draft a LB for the following reasons:

    1. Finding a WR out of college that can be of Brandon Marshall’s current established talent will be damn near impossible. I’m not saying that next year’s class of WR’s will never be able to turn into a “Brandon Marshall type”, but for them to be of that ability from draft day is doubtful. We know NOW what Marshall is capable of, college WR’s are unproven at the NFL level.

    2. Jamal Westermann has proven that rookie LB’s are more capable of getting accustomed to the NFL speed and ability much quicker than WR’s are capable of tightening their routes and becoming an NFL WR. Therefore, giving up a David Harris to get a Brandon Marshall is acceptable to me, because I feel we can find another David Harris much easier than another Brandon Marshall.

    3. Lastly, Rex Ryan wasn’t on staff when David Harris was drafted. Now, while I understand that Ryan has said that he likes Harris’ game, I trust Rex Ryan’s judge of talent, especially of defensive players, and I believe that he will be able to find a suitable replacement in next year’s draft. For all we know, he might have found it already in Westermann or Murrell.

However, I am very impressed by my fellow Jets fans for the loyalty. And I am a David Harris fan as well. But you can’t teach height and size, and Marshall has it. And if he came here, and there’d be a Sanchez to Marshall possibility for years to come… that’s something I’d be all for!

    LETS GO JETS!

  64. Oh heeelll no! Harris and Scott have proved to be a fearsome tandem so far during the preseason and I’ll be damned if McDaniels is going to take Harris away from New York.

No thank you, Mr. Marshall can find another home.

  65. And to add to the numbers Jones put up last season, which are right in line with his development in the NFL, Jones has been involved in a rigorous off-season conditioning program which included steady practices against NFL pros, including, I believe, Atonio Chromartie. What about his game or personality Rex doesn’t like I don’t know but imo the guy projects to have a really big season.

  66. JIMMY SHNOOGEN,

nice post. agree on some points, but you build your team on guys like harris, not marshall. just so you know, marshall was drafted in the 4th round….2 picks after leon washington. think about that. a 4th round pick. you can find a wr. you can not find a mlb with harris’s skill under any circumstances easily. VERY hard to do so. u can’t give up D. Harris is an ace middle linebacker. did u see him in preseason? he is going to the pro bowl.

  67. As a man who would welcome Marshall with open arms, I say no way. Don’t worry though, NO WAY Rex lets Harris leaves after he just saw what happens when you have a sick linebacking crew. Relax everyone, Rex won’t allow this……..

  68. counter offer with bryan thomas.. NO TRADING DAVID HARRIS

  69. IM a JO,

base on your screen name, you are joking about harris being mediocore, right?

  70. Let’s see, Harris is an up-and-coming superstar and Marshall is a brainless malcontent. PASS!

  71. Alex,

Great point, but we’d never find that 4th round WR because we’re too busy trading away our picks for RBs we don’t need.

  72. No way would I want David Harris gone, and plus we don’t need brandon marshall anymore we have the support of the psychics on our side

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1159742/1/index.htm

  73. igs,

is that a reference to kevin barlow??? that is hysterical. that’s what i’m saying. just keep the picks, and develop a football program. not a stop gap, panic move for the season trade. favre was a good trade. we almost had it last year. he just wore down, so i’m not mad about that. but now, we have to build for the future with sanchez.

  74. I said this in the previous thread, but I’ll say it again:

I wouldn’t trade David Harris for Brandon Marshall straight up, let alone having to throw in a draft pick!

Utterly ridiculous. Can we stop this ridiculous chatter now and start talking about the team on the field?!

  75. not bryan thomas either. we dont need marshall. our team is solid right now lets see what we have in the younger guys and than get someone next year via the draft if need be. we most likely arent winning the super bowl this year anyway.

  76. Alex,

No it was a reference to Shonn Greene, but I do agree. The successful programs keep the picks and develop them instead of devaluing them.

  77. Pats fan

Go to hell. And get a life, and smart guy if they would be the 2010 SB champs, that means they ain’t winning it this year because it’s the 09 season

ANd hell no Harris is way to important for the Jets.

  78. I simply can’t believe what I’m reading here!!! The vast Majority of you would’nt trade a very good ILB, for 1 of the most talented WR’s in the league??? Like I said earlier, I friggin love David Harris, but I would make this deal in a heartbeat!!! You all keep saying, “We’ll address the WR need in the draft next year”??? Are you people serious??? 1st off, it’s 100 times easier too find a stud ILB, then it is to find a “PROVEN” Stud WR, and that’s a fact!!! Get this deal done!!!

  79. I know what you’re saying, and agree that a WR would be and could be drafted, but it would be unreasonable of us as fans, to assume that a 2010 drafted WR is going to be of Brandon Marshall’s ability from Day One.

I don’t think its as unreasonable, if that makes sense, for us as fans to assume that a 2010 Drafted LB is going to be of David Harris’ ability from Day One. You see what I mean? I’m not sure if that makes sense.

I agree completely that David Harris has shown A LOT. But I feel like for our offense to be completely functional this year, we need a legit deep threat to keep the secondary completely honest. Not to say that J.Cotch, Stuck, or Clowney, are not capable of doing so, but Marshall FOR SURE, does.

I feel that the definite positive effects for our offense out weighs any negative effects that could come about by not having D.Harris.

But in the end, if no trade happens, I’m not going to flip out and go crazy, because after all…. Our defense still has Harris!

  80. I’ve been a big supporter of grabbing Marshall, but to give up Harris for him is ridiculous. I’d consider getting Marshall and a pick, but thats as far as those negotiations are gonna go if we have any clue what we’re doing.

  81. “NO”!
    “NO”!
    “NO”!

    **** Denver go “F” yourself twice over !! ****

Hey Mike T if you read this blog and you make this deal happen then I hope Rex and Woody J and the Jets Defense kick your ass to the curb after a really good bloody beat down!!

  82. largebarge,

u might be right that it is harder to find a stud WR, than a stud MLB. maybe.
but, you win superbowls with stud MLB’s, not stud WR’s.

go through every super bowl champion in the last 25 years, and tell me what’ more important., i disagree with you on this one.

  83. bryan thomas, brad smith and a 3rd for marshall

  84. 2 Things –
    1. It is clear that the two teams are talking. Info just doesn’t get “leaked” to “sources”. These two teams are engaged in real trade talk
    2. Bassett, you may very well my friend hit 110,000 comments on this site by the end of today at the rate that these guys are angrily hating on a trade that didn’t happen…..

  85. Lj

I wonder if the Cardinals had the same attitude as you have, last year??? We’ll probably not make it 2 the super bowl this year!!! The truth is that every team is trying to get to the Super Bowl, every year!!! Thats what its all about bro!!!

  86. maybe some teams value a stud WR over a stud MLB.. but in the direction this team is going, a guy like harris IS the identity for this team, which is a tough, hard hitting defense. We’re gonna run the ball on offense all game, a WR isnt as important to us as a great young linebacker.

  87. I’ve been advocating losing BT for a while. But this year he looks different. I’d hate to lose him just when Rex gets a fire lit under him. Either take the best FA out there or just go with the current WR corp, thus endig our hopes for a playoff appearance.

  88. even if we were to make the superbowl this year, a guy like marshall will not be the difference, seeing as our strategy is running the ball. but a guy like harris can be the difference.

  89. H*** No, F*** No, however you wanna say it. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

  90. BT is looking great this year. theres no way we give him up. does anyone in their right mind think that we will start gholston opposite of murrell or westerman or whoever for the first 4 games of this year. there’s no way. we need every good linebacker we can get for the first 4 weeks, and getting rid of thomas would really hurt this defense.

  91. I guess we must agree 2 disagree on this 1 people, but I must say, I’m befuddled on this 1 folks!!!

    Alex Morizio

How bout the Cards. only 1 year ago??? They clearly got 2 the Super Bowl on they’re WR play!!!

  92. i don’t think so. not 4 harris. If marshall gets in trouble in denver how is he gonna b in NYC?? NO THANKS

  93. largebarge, the cards offensive strategy is to air it out. we’re gonna run on at least 65 percent of the plays. a wide reciever doesnt mean as much to us as it does to them. just like they dont have a great runningback, we have 2. its all about what your identity is as a team, and ours is running the football.

  94. largebarge,

it’s a good point that you make. but that SYSTEM’s philosophy is to throw the ball at will. did they have a MLB to stop pittsburgh on the last series of the game??? No.
is fitzgerald the most rediciulous WR i’ve seen since Rice? probably.
but the defensive player of the year last year, harrison, made the play of the super bowl. with out that, they loose by 10 points, easily.
so in MOST, but not all cases, Defense wins. we will get offensive weapons, but NOT at the expense of building a super bowl winning defense, running the ball, and playing mistake free. i’d rather have a punter over marshall at this point. im not kidding.

  95. 3-4 ILB is less valuable than a #1 WR, particularly since everyone in the WR group fits in so nicely to the 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 roles after Marshall in the 1. He would give us an incredibly potent offense to go with a solid defense. Ryan takes pride in the defense’s ability to replace players without missing a beat, so if that is actually the case this deal should be a no brainer.

However, Marshall is an idiot, so I wouldn’t do it.

  96. No way no how. If the jets even think about doing something like that it would be one of their biggest mistakes in history. let marshall rot over there in denver.

  97. Lj,

i’m right with you on this one. legarbage, trust us on this one. get on the bandwagon of playing D, running the ball, and limiting mistakes. name me the number one receivers on tennessee, pittsburgh, and baltimore?
we do need another offensive weapon, but not marshall, and especially not for harris. it’s a non issue.

  98. They better not do this. They do not NEED another reciever, ecspecially one who will cause problems and might not be around for too long. Harris, Scott, and Rhodes are the bulding blocks for the defence that will be good for a very very long time if they stay together, just like the Ravens. So the Jets need to ask themselves this. Get a great reciever that might provide spark for a few years? or keep together a core of defensive players that will be great for a long time.

  99. pats fan,

what’s your problem bro?? cut it out. this blog site is for intelligent, fun, conversation amongst adults. not cool.

  100. >>How bout the Cards. only 1 year ago??? They clearly got 2 the Super Bowl on they’re WR play!!!

Totally different situation. The Cards are a typical west coast run and gun team. They win by trying to outscore their opponent in a shoot out and they have assembled a team in that fashion.

The Jets are being built as a defense first, pound the ball on O with just enough passing to keep the other team honest. This is the same mold that Pittsburgh, who incidentally beat the Cards in the Super Bowl, Ravens and any number of other teams have used successfully over the years.

Giving up a significant piece of the defense for a very, very troubled and problematic wideout who will have far less value to this team makes zero sense.

  101. NO FREAKING WAY!

  102. DH for BM? No way. Wasn’t one of the major reasons why we picked up Scott instead of Ray was the fact the two of them could disguise and juggle their roles? Isn’t he one of our homegrown stars?

Mr. T is starting to annoy me now. It’s one thing to give everything a due look, but he looks desperate. There are at least 5 other teams in the NFL who are WR starved but none of them come across as desperate as this guy.

Plus, we still haven’t paid Leon (who truly deserves it and went about it the right way) and we still have Jones to worry about. We shouldn’t be snooping about for overrated and petulant receivers.

  103. There is no reason to strengthen a weak part of the team and to weaken a strong part of the team.
The only way we deal with denver is if we give up one of the WR’s (smith, stuckey, clowney) and draft picks (maximum a 2nd rounder).

  104. It’s amazing… I don’t think there is one person on this post who would pull the trigger. You would think there would be at least one moron who would make the trade.
Hey Denver, how about Vernon Gholston? He’s got a huge upside and can adapt to any defense, we swear. We’ll even trade you straight up. But if you want Harris you’re gonna have to throw in Cutler. Oh wait….

  105. ronnie, well put. trade brad smith guys no good, and we won’t need to go to the wildcat when we have marshall. brad smith, a guy like bryan thomas who is inconsistent and we could replace with upcoming guy like westerman, and maybe a pick.

  106. Marshall is overvalued because of his inflated stats. As wisely pointed out previously on this blog by Basset and his fellow gurus, Marshall is not that great of a wide receiver. He gets an inordinate number of throws in the Denver offense, which will not happen with the Jets because they have a solid running game plus Cotch, Keller, and L. Washington. Therefore, you don’t make the trade for a receiver that will put up similar numbers to Cotch in the Jets offense.

  107. someone please remind denver that brandon marshall hates them and wants out…they are in no way negotiating from a position of strength

nice attempt at posturing though..it was a good laugh

  108. i cant believe people who are saying trade bryan thomas. i dont think you understand how ugly our defense would look for the 1st 4 weeks with two back up OLB’s. and thomas has been great in preseason. he’s a good guy to have on this defense.

  109. Now I want to see how Marshall does with Orton throwing to him . I’m gonna be watching Denver more closely than I would have…it’s kinda crazy if you think about what is happening over there…agreed with several of the posts above, save the draft picks, let’s start counting down to 9/13, and let’s roll…

  110. Make the trade. I don’t care how well Harris has performed – the offense needs a tandem akin to Manning/Harrison, and if Sanchez is the real deal, he’ll need a player like Marshall.

This is a tandem that could work well for the next 8+ years. One to build the offensive side of the ball around (and that’s before we bring up Washington, etc). Spend the next 4-5 years of high picks on linemen and LB’s.

The smart choice, all emotion aside, is to make the trade.

  111. How about Gholston and Harris for Marshall and their punter?

  112. ILB or #1 WR ??? seriously? are we debating this?

  113. i dont understand anyone who wants to make this trade. we are a running offense. our wide recievers are good enough for us to get by. we’ll draft one next year while keeping one of the best ILB tandems in the NFL intact.

  114. the guy is a headcase. anyone who is willing to give away harris has never seen a jets game or does not know his importance to this team.

  115. every team needs 4 wide receivers and 2MLB.
    why trade a 1 out of 2 for a 1 out of 4.
Also, the dropoff from harris to the next guy is much bigger than marshall to stuckey.

  116. no way. david harris kicks ass! He is much more valuable to the jets then a WR. He’s first round talent at a bargain. and this team is supposed to be defense oriented!

  117. Pats Fan

Do you feel threatened? Why are you here? Take your insults to your Pats Blog!

  118. @ LJ

completely agree, buddy…if you have watched any of the games this preseason you would have see that he has clearly been the best player on the jets defense..he is poised to have a monster year and will prove himself to be one of the best backers in the nfl

  119. Keep Harris! I would rather see the jets give Carlos Rogers a try out before we get rid of harris. I hear Armani toomers avail. Harris is young and turns out to be a major upgrade from Vilma. (surprising) Dont give him up Mike T.

  120. Why Will you entertain such an IDIOTIC Idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marshall is not our problem, CASE CLOSE!

  121. Sorry, make that Charles Rogers!

  122. NO NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

do not trade one of our best players, the captain of the D for a diva wideout with serious off the field issues and who would need a new contract.

NO NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  123. Sorry but anyone who supports this trade is just an ignorant fan. Harris and Scott on the inside are the heart and attitude of this team. They can keep that chump.

  124. Josh McDaniels is saying we’re tampering? What a douche. And he’s wearing a hoodie now too? He’s a j-off

  125. I do not want marshall. How about a go for Dwayne Bowe?

  126. plus marshall will want an enormous contract!

  127. no trade. Harris is a beast and we need him. I would hate having a jerk on our team. KEEP HARRIS

  128. F that. Tell Mcdouche to pound sand. There is no way the Jets can afford Marshall either when they have to resign Leon.

  129. OK Everyone official price for Marshall is a 1st and a Mid Rounder or a player (Harris probably).
    http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/09/ny_jets_interest_in_denver_bro.html

  130. LJ, & Co.

I’m as big a Jets fan as anyone, believe me, & I know how great a player David Harris is, but you’re all thinking with your hearts, not with your brain!s!! You all say, “we don’t need a legitimate #1 WR, we’re gonna run the ball 60%-70% of the time”, well what do you think opposing defenses are gonna do? Nothing? I think not!!! They’re gonna stick 8 in the box, & snuff the run game out!!! You have too be able to threaten defenses vertically, & B. Marsh strikes fear into defenses!!! With the addition of Marshall, our run game will be better then ever, thats the truth, like it, or not!!!

As for everyone who thinks our defense would become completely impotent, with the loss of David Harris I say PLEASE!!! Do you people honestly think we could’nt get it done without Harris??? Listen, I TRULY LOVE DAVID HARRIS, but IMO, we will still be a top 5 defense, even without his services!!! Get the deal done, & we’ll address the ILB position in the 2010 draft!!!

    J-E-T-S, JETS,JETS,JETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  131. mai two cents: HELL NO.

  132. I would not even trade a 1st and mid-rounder..we need depth next year..we have had 2-3 small drafts in a row.

  133. NO NO NO NO NO! I agree with those who say we don’t know if Brandon Marshall is a product of Jay Cutler bombing the ball down the field all the time. There are those who say Marshall is a top 5 wideout. Well, David Harris, if healthy, is a top 5 linebacker under Rex Ryan with Bart Scott at his side. This is a ridiculously bad deal. A loony toon jerk me-first wide receiver who has shown himself to be a complete pile of rocks off the field for a man-eating tackling machine linebacker? Uh, no thanks! Plus, the Jets have to give this jerk a new contract, something that would no doubt make Leon and TJ feel really ticked off (and those guys are far more important to this team than Marshall ever could be). This is robbing Peter to pay Paul. What’s going to happen when Jenkins isn’t on the field, or God forbid, misses games? Their run defense becomes completely vulnerable. Also, didn’t they learn from last season, that bringing in a selfish idiot who doesn’t know the playbook late in the preseason is a complete disaster of an idea? Awful. Would rather address this is in the draft or free agency next year.

  134. largebarge, while Harris is near and dear to our hearts….it is much more than that.

Harris is young and has shown he can be dominate at his position. Marshall is young and has lied about “slipping on a mcdonalds bag”, has had domestic violence issues and has proved he is not a leader.

He’s played with Jay Cutler in his short career in a team that was pass heavy because of injured RB and a bad defense….that can make many WR look good.

If this was a young Anquan Boldin? Sure. It’s not though. Leon and TJ have contract disputes going on right now you don’t see them acting up like Marshall is….

He is not worth a 1st round and Harris…not by a long shot. Hell I wouldn’t trade Harris for him straight up. Not worth the fines, the distractions and the uncertainty if his off the field antics will keep him from being in games we need to win.

  135. two words……ABSOLUTELY NOT!

  136. Let’s forget about this disaster in the makings and go with our young guys and use $ to tie up Leon long-term

  137. I think the jury is out on this one. NO WAY. David Harris is a loved Jet and taking him away for Marshall would be idiotic. Thanks, but no thanks.

  138. Bombing it down the field all the time? You people obviously don’t even watch Marshall he turns 5 yard plays into 15 yard gains, Yea he is a deep threat but underneath he is just as good. This explains all of his yardage but lack of TD’s…
WATCH A GAME PEOPLE STOP WITH THE STATS.

but I wouldn’t do this trade.

  139. I wouldn’t trade Harris’ sweaty jock for Marshall.

  140. HELL NO

  141. A guy who makes millions a year and doesn’t see the correlation between abusing his girlfriend and losing it all? No no no.

I’m in the camp that says save the pick for someone like Dez Bryant in the draft next year.
And yes, he can fall into the second half of the first round. 2010 could be one of the most talented draft classes of this decade.

    1. QB Bradford 2. LB Spikes 3. DT Suh 4. DT Cody 5. DB Berry 6. RB Best 7. OT Okung 8. QB McCoy 9. DE Hardy 10. DT McCoy 11. OT Black 12. FS Mays 13. DE Wootton 14. QB Tebow 15. RB Dwyer…

Especially with all the teams in the 3-4 these days, expect a lot of high picks to go to the massive DTs and DEs that are coming out.

  142. denver media outlets are reporting marshall is on a plane to ny right now and marshall for harris and a 3rd rounder could be done by tomorrow.

this is bad news jets fans.

  143. Lj, if this is true, at least we won’t be in the bottom 5 against the pass this year… Teams won’t throw if they can just run the ball at will.

  144. I refuse to even discuss this absurd topic. Just sign Leon NOW !
Tanny get on your horse and pay the man every ready. He’s earned every penny.

Please … enough of the Brandon Talk .. I’m getting SICK. We’ve had such a positive preseason. STOP the insanity.

I love the wideouts on our team. People! Be patient and let them show us. We have talent !

  145. DO NOT DO IT!!!!!!!!! UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE TRADE DAVID “DA STUD” HARRIS. TOTALLY NOT WORTH IT SORRY. Just be patient and we will get our franchise wide reciever. Dont reach for someone else problem

  146. Give up a first and a third but please dont trade David Harris

  147. i dont get what tanny is thinking. we’re gonna have to pay him 10 mil a year we still havent paid leon yet. where are we getting all this money from. i’d rather give up a 1st and 3rd at this point than harris and a 3rd. both are completely ludacris. i was all for this trade when we were talking a 2nd or 3rd and clemens.. but now when you throw in one of the best up and coming linebackers in the NFL, we got a big problem.

  148. no way tanny does this. no way rex wants this. this is just a bunch of bukkakke

  149. PLEASE don’t make this trade.

Keep Harris, we already love him and his abilities.
Marshall is a lot less lovable, not one of the gang, and wants a huge pay increase.

    DON’T TRADE HARRIS

  150. you’d have to believe, with where we’re headed and the brand of football we’re intending to play, that a pro bowl caliber MLB is more important than a WR who has plenty of problems off the field. with rex as our coach i dont see how he lets tanny go through with it.

  151. LJ

Are you serious about Marshall being on a plane 2 NY rite now??? If so, where can i hear about it???

  152. anyone twitter friends with any jets? get them to talk some sense into our management. this would go down as one of the worst trades ever. harris has yet to hit his prime and he’s a ridiculous linebacker.

  153. i read it on the forums on jetsinsider.com apparantley its been said amongst the denver media.

  154. I think that’s bs. I didn’t see anything on a search of denver media

  155. Lj,

what’s up. i just got back to the computer. are you serious??? come on. where did you hear that rumor? don’t play with my brain.

  156. Lj, we have the money to pay both players…
But the thing is it looks terrible to both the players and us, the fans. It reinforces the idea that Tannenbaum would rather pay FAs (ones with tremendous personal issues at that) ridiculous sums of money instead of the players that have dedicated their careers to this team.
Tannenbaum, if you make this move you are proving that you are just another sucker for big names and bright lights. No one ever won a Superbowl because the kids at home could name the starting line up. If we do not win a trip to the Superbowl in the next couple of years, you will surely be fired.

  157. thats what i’m saying. whats leon gonna think when we trade for marshall and hand him a 10 mil a year contract on his way in the door meanwhile we cant give our team MVP and pro bowl RB a measley 6 million a year even though he is trying to get it the right way, by performing on the field.

  158. i think this whole report may be BS though. i’m pretty sure its not even legal for us to bring in marshall to talk to us.

  159. This story is over!!!
Kerry rhodes posted on his twitter account that D. Harris is going no where.

  160. if what LJ said is correct, then the jets are in for a long season.

the jets defense would be one of the best w/ david harris on board, and with brandon marshall on board their offense would improve but who is to say that marshall doesnt throw tantrums like he did in denver? who is to say that he doesnt split the locker room. who is to say that the players dont resent him for who he is and what he has done, especially if he continues with his antics and offenses.

i dont get it. if the broncos would accept a 1st and mid rd pick why wouldnt teh jets take that over harris? harris is already an established player, and a probowler at that. the 1st rd pick has no guarantee of succeeding (ala vernon gholston) and if the jets do well in this coming season its even less likely of a chance b/c the pick wont be good. mike tannenbaum should be fired if he does harris in any deal.

  161. I didn’t even think about that. The defensive players would probably be pretty upset if we got rid of Harris for anyone.

  162. are kerry rhodes’ tweets considered tampering?

“@ReddOmegga we going after B marshall but we aint gonna give up D harris”

  163. All of this is created by ESPN which has become an absolute joke. They just report whatever they feel like even when they have no substance. No one is accountable so they don’t care. That channel makes me want to puke.

  164. i dont even get giving up a 1st and 3rd for marshall.. meaning we wouldnt have a 1st 2nd or 3rd because of the lito deal. unless its a 1st this year and a 3rd in 2011

  165. Big Jenks, Harris and Scott up the middle makes the Jets impossible to run on. Whatever Marshall can do is pure speculation. He is out-of-shape, has barely had any training camp and has to learn the Jets playbook. I would not do this deal just on Marshall’s promise. But, getting Marshall for the right price and with proper morals clauses would be a good move.

I have watched as much film as I can on Marshall and I think he’s a force and is still very young at 25. If his head were screwed on straight, he has a real chance of being Larry Fitzgerald-light. He did not play in a major college program at Central Florida. But, I can’t kill the guy because he gets a lot of passes thrown his way…he’s friggin 6-4 and well-muscled. He also blocks like a freight train. I’d target him a lot because at his height, he’s always open. Plus, he has the ability to get deep, but if I had Eddie Royal, I’d let Royal go deep and let Marshall play underneath. On the Jets, J. Co. and Keller will patrol underneath, allowing Marshall to go deeper.

So, I want Marshall for a reasonable price, but not for Harris.

  166. Eastside

Kinda harsh, don’t ya’ think??? Mr. T has done a damn good job thus far, IMO!!! I completely understand your not being happy with losing David Harris, lord knows he’s 1 of my favorite Jets, but in this game you gotta give up the goods, 2 get the goods!!! I only hope LJ is’nt lying about Marshall being on a plane 2 NY rite now!!! The truth is Marshall will make this Offense 10 times better!!! TJ, & Leon will be able to slash opposing defenses with the vertical threat that Marshall will provide!!! Losing Harris will really hurt 4 a while, but this defense is gonna roll over people, regardless………as long as BIG JENKS stays healthy…..thats the key, IMO!!!!
    J-E-T-S, JETS,JETS,JETS!!!!!!!!!!!

  167. We can’t make this Marshall thing happen. He is first of all insane….the bad kind of insane.

We cannot give away one of the best and most integral parts of our defense to get an insane player. We cannot give an insane player millions of dollars before we take care of our own. And our own needs to be taken care of pronto.

  168. We can’t make this Marshall thing happen. He is first of all insane….the bad kind of insane.

We cannot give away one of the best and most integral parts of our defense to get an insane player. We cannot give an insane player millions of dollars before we take care of our own. And our own needs to be taken care of pronto.

  169. I’ve been a die-hard Jet fan through thick and thin (well, let’s face it, a helluva lot of thin with an occasional smattering of short-term thick) for decades but if they were to trade David Harris for that selfish, prima donna, locker room cancer, Brandon Marshall, then that might just be the move that makes me finally walk away. Absurd, simply absurd for Denver even to propose such lunacy.

  170. Lets stick with our guys, If we get Marshall all we would be getting is a replaced hip and a big mouth(along with a lot of yds). Keep Harris and pay Leon the money you would have to give to Marshall.

  171. TWO THINGS
    1. Denver Didnt Say It, They dont even want to trade Marshall they are still in denial. Why would they say we want Harris but they dont want to trade him. ESPN is the source of all of this.

    2. Kerry Rhodes said we aren’t giving up Dave Haris for Marshall BUT The Jets are still going for B Marshall.

  172. HECKK NO. if he didnt get hurt last year he would have had well over 100 tackles, this kid is such a great LB its nto even funny.

  173. I agree that I absolutely love the personnel that T has brought in. But he already made one crucial mistake when he gambled on Favre and lost bad. There’s a price to pay for playing boldly. The fact that only Mangini was fired after the Phins game surprised me at the time. I’m just saying that if this blows up in his face, the fans are going to start asking him why he should keep his job when teams like the Falcons and the Dolphins have had such rapid turn arounds.

  174. if we get marshall for a 1st and 5th… then that is a different story… even though do we want to take the risk of him breaking apart the locker room? larry fitzgerald also had his share of off the field problems but he held it togethor and has held it togethor… what is to say marshall cant somehow fix his problems as well?

but if the jets trade harris for marshall… with that monsterous risk and most probable impending failure… well id get a negative view of the organization. it would mean the jets arent taking care of their home grown players, and it would also mean that they arent taking what the fans want into consideration either. yes the fans are calling for an elite wr but they also want discretion. i would welcome an elite WR… if it didnt mean he was a total headcase and would cost us one of our most talented players…

  175. a one and harris?!?!?! Are you out of your f*$&ing mind. Yeah right, say hell no shut the door and tell McDaniels to get some couples therapy to deal with that head case.

  176. i would give thomasl, kellen and a 2nd for rmarshall an simms or kellen and a first for marshall and simms lets not overvalue a 1st rd pick remember gholston

  177. Ya I would only trade picks at this point, we are looking to add to a playoff contender not take away a strength to fill a “weakness” which I think isnt as weak as people think, even though adding Marshall to our WR corp instead of Henry or Allison looks very nice

  178. yeah. this is one of those trade offers that is so insulting that isn’t even worth hitting the decline button.

leave this crap on the trade board mr T, alteast until yahoo sends that obnoxoius message that the offer proposed has been withdrawn.

  179. i think we surpassed 100,000 posts with this article…

  180. we gotta take care of our own players before any of this goes down!!

  181. EastSide,

I just don’t get the Favre comparison. Marshall is 25, he fills a need for the Jets and doesn’t displace a fan favorite, like Chad. Leon’s contract situation is what it is. The franchise tag cost for a WR is over $9.8 million; it’s $6.6 million for an every down RB, which Leon isn’t. If the Jets ever want to sign an elite WR, the cost would be around 50% more costly than signing an elite RB. That’s just the NFL game. If Tanny gets Marshall, Leon can’t hate the playa, hate the game.

  182. J. McDaniel must be freakin’ Rocky Mountain High! Absolutely, positively no fuggin’ way! All that thin air must be making him fruity.

  183. Am I the only one who doesn’t remember Brandon Marshall as the type of diva who demanded the ball on a regular basis and was disruptive for the young quarterback. If I do recall correctly Marshall and Jay Cutler had great chemistry and prior to everything in the past couple of weeks he wasn’t in the same discussion as TO. Granted, he’s made the same mistakes off the field over and over again, but him, Sanchez, Keller, Leon, Mangold, D’Brickashaw, we’d have cornerstones on offense to carry us for years to come, not to mention Rex’s defense.

  184. Please no. if it where to happen it would go down as a bigger fail then the Favre trade.

  185. NO NO NO. If Tanny makes this trade, I may have to consider another team……

  186. ESPN’s Adam Schefter adds that the Broncos could take a first-rounder AND a player like inside linebacker David Harris

    SCREW MINI ME BELICHEAT
McDaniels is a clown dressing like his former master. He must have a room in his house just to idolize that cheater.

  187. Forget Marshall, Daivd Harris is 2 important to the biggest part of the team the defense. What about dewayne bowe from kansas city he’s a better fit

  188. Please No! This trade would kill Rex’s chances of having a dominant defense this season.

  189. no freaking way…this guy mcidiot is out of his freaking mind…i can hear Mr. T…get out of here with that BS… LOL…this guy must think the jets are morons…DH and a 1st…he really is crazy…just my thoughts…

  190. Dewayne Bowe Has Great hands He can Go Over The Middle, with his solid size and he can get to the ball off double teams,he’s like the bigger version of anquan boldin.Plus he’s probably cheaper to get.

  191. los

whats the asking price for bowe…if he’s even available that is…

  192. but to be honest…i would rather stay put with what we have…i think our guys will prove to be more than just efficent…just my thoughts…

  193. BRandon Marshall right now is only worth a draft pick. The Jets should give up a nd 2nd and third pick. In a couple of weeks they’ll be desperate. If Marshall is mart he would become a jet!!!!

  194. NO. Abolsutely NOT. No F’ING way. So what i’m saying is No. It’s completely ridiculous to even contemplate this move.

  195. dont do it. we have some kickass on defence now, why bust that up for a prima donna?

  196. there where reports about the availibilty of dewayne bowe but the jets seem to be more high on marshall, bowe and the new head coach dont seem to be getting along like mcdaniel and marshall,he’s just taking a different approach

  197. Tell Denver the air at 6,000 feet is clearly causing them to think the Jets are moronic enough to trade one of the best LBs in the league, model citizen for head case psycho. I think they are breathing the same smack that caused them to fire Shanahan which led to Cutler leaving which led to the Dirty BM disaster. The snow in Utah is boatloads better as well btw.
    NO F..KING WAY IN HELL

  198. There one player away from being a playoff team. It could’ve been Buress. The NFl is made up thugs and crazies. You have to be crazy to play football. There all crazy from the QBs to the to the Coaches. Just ask Bret Favre. Like LT once said. Lets play like some wild and crazy dogs!!!! lol

Brandon Marshall is no crazier than Brett. I say wait Denver up and see how low they’ll go. This year is a wash for them. They’ll be 4 and 12 and they know it. If they give him up early that’ll tell their fans that they are giving up!!!!

  199. Brandon Marshall is worth no more than a 3rd round pick. Period.

He’s one mistake away from a FULL YEAR suspension. His numbers are a reflection of Jay Cutler and the system as much as they are of his talent. He’s a childish malcontent with no self control.

To risk anything more than a middle pick would just be stupid.

David Harris and a pick? I can’t stop laughing.

  200. [...] Buzz: Broncos Want Harris ‘In Any Deal’ For Brandon Marshall [...]

  201. Haha good one McDaniels. No way do the Jets make this trade everyone in this thread need to relax. Harris is a Pro-Bowl ILB and then they want a 1st on top of that? It is very obvious that they made that proposal as a way of telling the Jets to get lost. Time to move on everyone, Chansi Stuckey, c’mon down!

  202. I’m not in favor of trading Harris and Marshall is bat s—t crazy, but consider what Marshall, from Central Florida has done in his 3 NFL seasons:

In 2007, Marshall was the 5th WR in NFL history to have 90+ receptions in his 2nd season, joining: Lionel Taylor, Sterling Sharpe, Isaac Bruce and Larry Fitzgerald and only the third to eclipse 100, with Bruce and Fitz.. That’s pretty select company.

In 2008, he had an 18 reception 166 yard game against the Chargers. His 18 receptions in a game are second in NFL history to TO, who had 20. He had 55 receptions over 5 games, the only player in NFL history to do that and he was the first player in NFL history to have 10 or more catches in 4 of 5 games. He had 100 receptions and was only the 9th player in NFL history to have back-to-back 100 catch seasons.

I’m just saying that he’s a real talented guy and he’s only 25 entering his 4th NFL season. Guys like Marshall should never be on the market and I applaud Tanny and Rex for recognizing a target of opportunity.

  203. I was just wondering, its off topics but i dont know if its my computer or not but everytime i visit this site my mcafee pops up n says trojan successfully blocked? Its just on this website does anyone else have this?

  204. Sackdance-Marshall’s talent is unquestionable but David Harris is a cornerstone of our defense, no way do we give him up with a pick for a disgruntled receiver looking for a huge deal.

  205. If we get rid of David Harris then him and Scott cant be assault and battery. I will trade Kellen Clemens and Brad Smith and a 2 round pick.

  206. Tanny and Rex should always listen, BUT this would be a terrible move.

  207. SackDance99 amen ! Please allow me to add –
I would sign up for him shooting himself in the foot in his 4th season as a Jet right after he signs his extention!

  208. Defense wins championships and receivers are products of their QB’s 90% of the time… Marshall may be special, but not worth David Harris who is a true stud, team player, and someone you build around.

  209. Patience. That’s what I want to see from Tanny. If Marshall keeps on acting this way, his value is going to drop a lot.

I hope Tanny sits back for a couple of weeks and Marshall continues to screw around on and off the field.

In that case – this would happen:

    Brandon Marshall
    for
    4th Round Draft Pick

I think the Jets absolutely cannot live without another good wideout – it really could be the difference between the playoffs and 6-10.

  210. Pull the trigger on this and i give up on the green and white.

    DONT DO IT

  211. K-man, You still wear your Gholsdton jersey to games?

  212. NYJBeast89,

I prefaced all of my comments with the view that trading Harris for Marshall is wrong. It would be a huge mistake on many levels, but the Jets should pursue Marshall and try to get him for a good price and with a contract that muzzles him. I posted this before, but with Marshall, the Jets offensive core would be 27 or younger: Sanchez, Leon, Marshall, Brick, Mangold, J.Co, Stuckey, Greene and Keller. Moore’s only 29, leaving Faneca, Woody and T-Rich as the only 30+ guys. I would feel a lot better about the Jets’ offensive future and, let’s face it, all of the questions on this team are on the offensive side. Heck, I know Marshall is nuts, I mean he nearly ended his career last season when he was horsing around and lacerated his ar

  213. SackDance99 WITH BACK TO BACK HOME RUNS !!!!! YEEESSSS !!!!!!

  214. …lacerated his arm before the 2008 season. But, Steve Smith is nuts, as is TO, Moss, Ochocinco, etc. As long as Marshall performs on the field and reins in the off-the-field crap, he would help the Jets.

  215. basicly all the good wide outs are mouthy cocky and want their way. Except Andre Johnson and Larry Fitizgerald i think there the most level headed ones.

  216. Greenblood,

It’s more likely that Marshall’s posse would get him caught in a crossfire. Like I said, he has issues. But, NY teams usually do okay with other team’s head cases. Plax held it together long enough for the Giants to get a ring and Sprewell led the Knicks to the NBA finals.

  217. Sackdance- Great points. Sorry for the confusion, I missed your first comment. An offense with several quality players, all under 27 is very desirable, I just want to keep Harris.

  218. I want to add to all of this that I used to kill our owner for being somewhat cheap. I recant, the Man, Mr. Woods is going all the way for us ever since Pete Kendall fiasco. Did with Faneca, Favre, did with Sanchez, Scott and most likely will with Marshall. Nothing gets even considered around here without his blessing so He wants this! I tip my cap to Mr.Woods!

  219. SackDance99, Spreewell is perfect example.

  220. It looks like everyone agrees, there is NO WAY we make this trade. Denver’s stuck big time and the clock’s ticking. Also, anyone who takes Marshall off their hands is taking a huge chance that he’ll screw up again and be suspended by the league big time. As much as I believe we need a big time WR, we can’t deal Harris and we can’t give up high draft choices. Let’s just pick up a vet who’s at risk of being cut and offer a 7th rounder if he’s worth it.

  221. Nobody agrees frustratedjetfan. We want fireworks.

  222. I want Marshall badly. But Harris a stud 25 yr old LB and a 1st rd pick? I’m sorry I would have to be drunk off my a$$ to make that trade if I’m Tanny. We must wait for a fair deal, or go with what we have, and for the love of God can we pay Leon!

  223. Howabout dem YAnkkkeees!!!!

  224. How about Cimini guys ? Did you read him? Yikes. He’s got major beef with Marshall, at 11:10 he goes off, a bit out character.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2009/09/a-disaster-in-the-making.html

  225. monny-Feels pretty good as a Yankee fan, lets see how they do in October.

  226. Greenblood-Yeah Cimini went on a bit of a tyraid. Hes right, Harris is asking too much, it is obvious McD is trying to do his old boss a solid by breaking up the Scott/Harris combo.

  227. I have 3 gripes with Cimini’s article. First, he doesn’t mention that Marshall is talented, 25 and by current NFL pay scales, worth quite a bit more than Leon. Second, why are Marshall and Leon linked? Marshall would be traded, so there’s no guarantee that he’d immediately get a deal that he wanted. Maybe Tanny would tell him to come in, be positive and a deal will get done in-season after Leon. What would Marshall do? Hold out and guarantee that his career would be over? Third, Sanchez’s best friend and mentor, Carson Palmer, had to deal with Ochocinco…dealing with diva WRs comes with the territory as an NFL QB. Sanchez is a cocky enough guy to stand up to Marshall and whose to say that they wouldn’t become Aikman and Irvin?

  228. Harris is an intricate part of this team. Taking him out of the line up would be extremely detrimental to to the team.

If they make a deal Harris cannot be part of it. The guy is a tackling machine and can make other plays. If any trade goes down it cant involve him

  229. NYJBeast89, I would look elswhere than Harris, but truth be told we have no combo yet. At least we don’t know the potential, but I’d rather have Sanchez Marshal combo than any other 2 positions on the field.

  230. Defense Defense Defense…. No way

  231. Ask McD if he wants Gholston? I kid! Seriously though, I’d do the 1st rd pick but no Harris.

  232. 1st + Gholston or 1st + 5th + Brad Smith and or K. Clemens.

  233. Greenblood- Seems fair, that’s why McD would never do it, he wants to be greedy.

  234. Harris is the man… and I would love to see him and Scott man the middle of this defense.

But he is injury prone and Westermann may not be that large of a drop-off considering the advantage of gaining the talent of a top-10 WR. So, if that deal went to fruition (a straight up trade ) I wouldn’t cry myself to sleep.

However, to trade Harris AND a pick sounds like posturing to me.

I think a 1st and 4th is appropriate compensation given Marshall’s shenanigans (both on and off the field)

    But I could see negotiating a 2010 1st and a conditional 2011 pick; maybe a 3rd or even a 2nd (depending on Marshall’s health and play).

It is clear that the two teams are dancing–and that is a good sign. We need a #1 WR in the worst way.

  235. One more time

  236. Woody is serious about putting a winner on the field. Hence why he got the big QB(on 2 ocassions) and now he is exploring Marshall the big WR. I just hope that Tanny can get it done without giving up Harris who figures to be the next Ray Lewis in this system.

  237. I hope so too

  238. scott and harris is a deadly combo.
    we can break it up.
KC and othe picks for Marshall

Amani toomer just got cut too

  239. SD99,
When I evoke the Favre trade, I’m not trying to make comparisons per se. What I am trying to suggest is that there is a dangerous level of risk when acquiring FAs like this, in this way. Favre did not work out, plain and simple. Tannenbaum brought him in to take us to a Superbowl, he did not, Tannenbaum made a gamble and lost. I don’t think this high risk style of management is necessitated by anything but desperation. Like anything, you gotta know when to gamble and when to play it safe (something this team hasn’t quite figured out for 40 years now). I view a Marshall acquisition as another gamble, albeit one that takes a much different form. If Marshall comes here and continues his immature actions on the practice field and in his personal life, if he creates distractions and fissures in the locker room, if he gets suspended for his actions… well, the focus should be on Tannenbaum and ownership should find a new GM. One of Bradway’s weaknesses was he didn’t know when to make the obvious decision and when to take the risk (e.g. Doug Jolley, 2nd round Nugent). I want this team to win and I want the best team to take the field each Sunday. However, I also want a team made of players who respect each other, their fans and the game.

  240. Yo this mcdanielles twurp thinks he’s slick .. He thinks since he came from the pats that he can talk to us however he feels . Hell never get my boi Harris ! I mean Marshall is top 5 WR in the league but I put Harris top 3 ILB behind Patrick Willis and Ray Lewis so mcdike can go F himself because I feel insulted .. Now back to the trade .. I would give up a 1st round and kc or an additional 4th cuz Marshall could be the last peice of the puzzle to get us a superbowl appearance .. So let’s go Mr.T and show those bronchoes who’s guna hustle who .. J E T S Jets Jets Jets!!!!!!!

  241. If Harris is the sticking point, just walk away. McCockerspaniels is a douche like his mentor. By the 2nd game of the season we can get him for a 5th rounder and Gholston.

BTW Denver is the laughing stock of the league. Weare just lucky our players didn’t pull this when Mangina came here.

  242. I just read on a denver blog that Giants GM Reese is on his way to denver to sit down face to face with Marshall. They were babbeling about Kiwanuka. this was at about 3am. Some of those ass clowns don’t know Harris so they didn’t like the trade either. At this point no one knows ****. They were sayin Marshall was goin to ny to hang with a bball player? Then at 3 they wrote about the Giants. Long story short don’t believe anything u read untill its offical

  243. The ONLY place David Harris is going is to the PRO BOWL!!!!!

  244. If Tannenbaum has any negotiating skill at all he’ll just wait and do nothing. Now that Marshall knows the Jets are interested, he’s going to be completely uncontrollable over there, maybe will even stamp his feet and cry — until the point where his value has dropped so far that we can get him for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. There is no way in this world I would give anything more than that for him. It’s not just the 2nd round pick but also all the financial stuff that goes along with him coming here — new contract, other players whining about contracts etc.

And no way is he a top 5 wr — just off the top of my head I can name Fitz, A Johnson, C Johnson, Moss, Steve Smith, Greg Jennings, Reggie Wayne, probably even TO. Boldin’s probably at least as good, certainly is tougher. And a young Roddy White I’d take over him too. So maybe he is top 10 but not anywhere near top 5.

  245. Well as of now nothing is going down .. We really do need a WR badly .. I like who we have just want sanchez to develope faster and his job would be easier if he had better WR to throw to..

  246. Those who believe that Tannenbaum has done anything less than a stellar job as GM need to wake up and smell the coffee. Over the span of a few years he has completely reformed an aging, underachieving defense and through free agancy and the draft has brought them to the cusp of top 5 talent in the league. On the offensive side of the ball he brought in the AFC’s leading rusher last year and a leader for our locker room for what amounted to a 3rd or 4th round pick to the Bears. He took a gamble on Favre last year and it may not have paid off on the field, but I bet you Woody is not complaining with all the $$ and excitement generated by the move. Tanny has balanced the economics involved with his job with the personnel side as well as anyone could hope for and regardless of some of the perceived missteps with contracts he is truly a contracts and cap wizard.

Having said that, if he wants to explore Brandon Marshall trade talks he has enough equity in the bank with me to say I’m fine with it, because I know at the end of the day he won’t get taken in a deal and he will never accept marshall for harris and a pick.

  247. F*** Denver and lil Josh. Harris stays. He is abtter player anyway.

  248. Niko- He has raised the talent level, but if we still can’t win what was the point? To spend a lot of money? To get the fans to pay PSLs?

I think Tanny has done a great job, but all that matters in this league is winning.

  249. JAGG, the Jets inconsistency over the seasons he has been GM here has been mainly due to 2 points, QB play and the inability of the defense to carry the offense when it struggles. I think his biggest mistake was that it took so long to settle the QB situation, but he was dealing with a QB who was loved in NY (Chad) and another that never lived up to his talent (Clemens). Both the QB and defense issues have been addressed now.

  250. I’m not disagreeing with you, but it is still more complicated than that. There was the Kendall situation and the way Baker (We still haven’t replaced him) was handled. Plus the fact that I think Woody will be holding him responsible shall we lose.

  251. In the words of my man Coach Boone, they must be outside their minds!

  252. No way, JOSE!

  253. i wouldnt do this now but if marshall never had a off the field issure and wasnt a hot head ever i would make that trade but all that off the field stuff brings his value down

  254. this is just stupid. A first rounder and a star lb for a reciever that will prob get suspended by the league naex year? just stupid

  255. There’s nothing wrong with sniffing around Marshall- a GM should always be looking to upgrade his team, and if there is a talented player available, then you need to due the dilligence.

But I think that people need to accurately evaluate not just the talent on the team but the talent in question. Marshall is a possession receiver. His raw numbers hide that because you don’t see the number of pass attempts it took to get him to those numbers. Yards per completion also hide it to a certain degree. Marshall was sixth or seventh in the league in yards per game, but if you look at the yards per attempt, there is a big gap between him and the guys ahead of him. Here’s a list:

    Andre Johnson: 9.26
    Calvin Johnson: 8.87
    Greg Jennings: 9.22
    Steve Smith: 11.01
    Larry Fitzgerald: 9.29
    Reggie Wayne: 8.80
    Roddy White: 9.33
Randy Moss: 8.06 ** (This is with a backup quarterback all season- with Brady, he was at 9.33)

    Laveranues Coles: 7.39
    Jerricho Cotchery: 7.72
    Brandon Marshall: 6.98

So on a per throw basis, not only was Marshall nowhere near as effective as the top receivers in the game, he wasn’t even as good as either starting receiver for the Jets last season. Does that mean that he’s less talented than Coles or Cotchery? No, not necessarily. After all, maybe he was drawing heavy coverage and was the focal point of the opposing defense’s game plan. But even so, you have to look at what the Jets want to do and then ask yourself if this move makes any sense. The Broncos had an elite quarterback and had to throw the ball 600+ times last year. Nearly one in three of those passes was directed at Marshall, and even then he only generated around 1250 yards. If the Jets are going to throw the ball 350-400 times, then exactly how much more effective is Marshall going to be than Jerricho Cotchery would be in that situation? Not enough.

You build a team with an end in mind, not just by running around thoughtlessly after players.

**As an aside, I find it amusing that people are perfectly happy to throw away draft picks for Brandon Marshall, but as soon as they see a quality player who they like come into the discussion, they scream bloody murder. Do you know what David Harris is? The result of our draft picks. The whole point of the draft is to find young, cheap talent that is locked in for a set time into your cap structure. So when people want to start winging off our draft picks to Denver, just picture David Harris or Darrelle Revis in place of that pick. It should help provide perspective.

  256. Just to reiterate some comments from above:

    Bat sh1t crazy
    Bukkake
    Absurd
    McDaniels Assclown

That pretty much sums up this speculation for David Harris being traded.
