The New York Post this morning notes that all the craziness from yesterday regarding the Jets, the Broncos, Brandon Marshall, tampering and David Harris is all for naught.
The Jets have not made any public comments on Marshall. Nor will they.
And, sources have told The Post, they’re not interested trading for the disgruntled receiver because the Broncos are asking too much in return — reportedly, a first-round pick and more.
The Jets have publicly backed their receiving corps, which includes veteran Jerricho Cotchery and unproven Chansi Stuckey, David Clowney and Brad Smith.
Meanwhile, Broncos coach Josh McDaniels has said the team intends for Marshall — who wants a new contract or a trade — to play for Denver this season.
Of course the Jets haven’t made public comments on Marshall, that would be tampering if they said anything other than “Brandon Marshall is under contract with another team” but the truth is that someone is fomenting this talk inside the Jets.
As of last night, M.A. Mehta reported that the Broncos wanted a first rounder AND David Harris … laughable, I know.
It’s hard to know what’s real and what’s not, especially when sources aren’t attributed. Probably, there were some talks, but probably the Jets have walked away, at least for right now. Still should anything happen, it’s most likely going to happen between now and the start of the season.

IMO the landscape will change again after Marshall returns from suspension on Sept 6th and change again after the Bronco’s realize after the first game that Marshall is completely ineffective with Kyle Orton throwing to him. The offer is a second and a fourth round pick, to get the deal done will consider REPLACING the fourth round pick with one of the following players:
1. Stuckey
2. Clemens
3. Brad Smith
4. Eric Smith
5. Trusnick, Cummings or Murrell
I am not sure of when of the trading deadline ( Mid-October ?) but Marshalls value will continue to plummet . What would be your latest date to pull the trigger ? -
The broncos organization is crazy to even ask for a 1st rounder and Harris .. They all can kiss my @$$ and mcdike should get smacked
-
I am not sure what the craziness is all about.
The Broncos are doing what they need to do right now. Saying nothing and asking for the moon for a player they can’t wait to rid the team of.
The Jets and Mr.T are doing exactly what they need to do. Looking for talent whereever they can. I am not sure where the fans come off saying Mr T is trying to save his job with looking into Marshall? We need a big WR…..one is on the the market. He is looking into it. if he could get him for 3rd and a 6th every fan would say we stole the guy.
Calm down Jet fans. Mr T is a great GM he drafts pretty well and has yet to get rolled when trading with other GM’s
TJ trade
K Jenkins trade
B Bollinger trade
Trading spare parts for our future franchise QBI just dont understand the Mr T bashers out there. Why becasue of P Kendall or L Coles?
-
I think we can close the book on this brandon marshall issue. this is a typical story being overblown by the immense media coverage it today’s day and age. i wouldn’t be surprised if ESPN was behind this (and i’m not a conspiracy theory type of guy).
Forget this bum. He is not the only receiver in the history of the NFL over the next few years that will be available. So lets move on, and be patient. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Patience. -
Plus the Broncos know if they dont trade him in the next 10 days. His value is at an all-time low.
-
he will be playing for denver this year. i don’t think mcdaniels would trade him to the jets anyway. it will take a few draft picks to get him, and we can’t afford that.
-
Mcdandy-keep dreaming buddy
Harris? well if you dont ask you usually dont get, but really?! and a FIRST? -
McDaniels is a real tool , in the belichek mold.
-
NYPost also said we will be sorry for not getting Vick.
Hey all this information s leaking and Kerry Rhodes even said we are looking at Brandon Marshall. -
They made a phone call, like I am sure plenty of teams have done and probably made a low ball offer, as they should.
But not being able to control the leaks in this organization is embarrassing.
I don’t buy the argument that they want it out there to drive a wedge between the team and the player, if anything it drives a wedge between their own team and the current players, but the WR’s and the RB that are seeking new deals.
-
This trade would not be wise for the Jets.
-
Drew, you forgot about last season’s debacle?
And Gholston? And Schlegal? And Clemens (trade up)?
And Kendall and Coles and Pennington and the RB debacle of a few years back are relevant too.
T’s made some good deals and picks, and some bad. Mixed results, but underachieving on the whole with the money and control he has been given.
Hardly great.
PS – The jury is still out on Jenkins, great when he plays but part of the reason he came so cheap was his medical history, we will see if he can hold up for a full season.
-
NO, NO, NO, NO , NO – WE SHOULD NOT EVEN DISCUSS THIS TRADE ANY FURTHER!!! HARRIS IS A BEAST AND WE ARE STILL TRYING TO COMPLETE OUR DEFENSE…WHY SEND OUR 2ND BEST LB OUT OF TOWN FOR A DISGRUNTLED CRY BABY WHO WILL FURTHER DISTRUPT OUR LOCKER ROOM!!! NO NO NO, JETS, PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THIS TRADE… MARSHALL ISN’T EVEN WORTH A 1ST ROUNDER IN MY OPINION, TOO MANY ISSUES….TO’S BROTHER.. WE SHOULD WAIT FOR A FEW TEAMS TO GO THROUGH THEIR WR CUTS AND PICK ONE UP. OF COURSE IT WON’T BE A MARSHALL TYPE TALENT AT FIRST BUT MOST MARQUEE RECEIVERS WEREN’T STANDOUTS AT FIRST, THEY WERE DEVELOPED IE.. RANDY MOSS! BOTTOM LINE, IF THE JETS MAKE A TRADE THAT INCLUDES HARRIS, THEY ARE TAKING A HUGE STEP IN THE WRONG DIRECTION
-
If we trade Harris for Marshall then Denver should be including a first round pick, not us.
-
I was all for this trade until I saw an argument against it IN ALL CAPS. Totally swayed me. Thanks Jetknut79, aka numb nuts.
-
@Wise Old Jet Fan – Agreed that those are some pretty bad moves, I mean, it appears that we might as well tack on Gholston’s name to one of Benigno’s infamous “Illustrious number one picks like…” rants, but not for nothing, Gholston and Schlegal were at Mangini’s behest. In those cases, all he was guilty of was letting his coach pick his own team….which should mean that he needs to let Ryan pick his and keep D.Harris!
-
Does anyone else get this trojan virus warning on this blog all of a sudden?

I wouldnt even trade harris for marshall straight up. When i look at scott and harris i see the second comming of what was in Baltimore and what will be for quite a few years to come.
Do people who write in all caps think that 5th grade typing gets people’s attention?!?
-
Wise Old Jets Fan,
Too soon to use Gholston as a knock against Tanny. Schlegel was Mangini’s pick. And Coles was getting greedy and up in age, so we let him walk. Pennington was never going to lead us anywhere other than a first round exit. Kendall leaving hurt us, but he’s aged extremely quickly and doesn’t even start.
I’m not saying everything Tanny touches turns to gold. But I would not say that he is underachieving as a whole. He has worked great contracts and knows how to use bonuses and the like better than anyone. People thought we’d be $30 million over the cap, and we not only got under the cap, but got under signed/resigned a handful of good players, and are still under the cap.
Tanny gets my vote of confidence, he’s building a team that will win for the long haul, with a nice combo of young studs and good veterans.
-
can players’ comments be tampering or is it just limited to management? if so, then does it apply to twitter?
“@ReddOmegga we going after B marshall but we aint gonna give up D harris” by kerry rhodes
just wondering…
-
Every time I hear this David Harris to Denver nonsense I get these horrible flashbacks of James Farrior becoming a pro bowler in Pittsburgh-no thank you Denver-you can keep the heachache that is Brandon Marshall for yourself.
One more thing the Jets and Denver have not made a deal in over a generation (Matt Robinson) and I don’t consider the nothing we got from Denver for DRob or the 3-way with Atlanta as us doing very well dealing with the Broncos. Hell, we couldn’t even get Jeb Frickin Putzier from them 4 years ago. The Jets and Denver DO.NOT.DEAL.
-
Ahhhrrrrg!! That’s bringing up some bad memories! Letting Farrior walk because he asked for something like $1.5 million a year for 4 years….then signing Sam Cowart to a ridiculously expensive deal, only to see him dealt three years later to Minnesota for a 7th round pick because Vilma had made him irrelevant. I guess no matter what Tanny pulls, he has a long, long way to go to approach the depths of Terry Bradway.
-
this is a complete joke. denver has absolutely no leverage in this deal. why dont they just ask for revis as icing on the cake?
IMO, this deal cant work because we have several other born-and-bred players (leon washington especially) that we need to take care of. even if the price was a 7th rounder this trade would be difficult to pull off without creating a problem in the locker room
say whatever you want about Mr T, but when the favre rumors first started swirling, the pack wanted a 1st rounder for him. Mr T gave much less. this gives me faith that he woulndt think about doing something this stupid
-
Mr T knows what he is doing everyone, have faith, I believe we will get Marshall for a 2nd in 2010 and a compensation pick in 2011, anywhere from a 2nd to a 4th, but that trade wont go down for at least another week because the Broncos need to be stubborn.
-
For evey questionable move Mr T has made he has made twice as many that he did well for this franchise…..
You can name every GM that has missed on a 3rd round pick like Schlegel. The KC trade up was using a pick we had already stolen from Washington. At the time the move looked brilliant. I wanted VG like a lot of fans so its a stain but too early to hold against him
As bad as the RB situation was we were coming off a injured C mart and the salary cap was a disater which Mr T solved and we made the playoffs with those RB. We also beat NE at NE with those guys.
The guy is a quality GM who always gets his picks signed and in camp and a cap genius. Nobody thought he could be a GM but Parcells still tries to get the guy to this day. That tells me he is a great guy to run our franchise.
-
good point by brian311….. b/c the guy wants a new deal. so we cant give up 2 picks or harris and a pick and then sign the guy when we have our own guys to deal with.
F mcdaniels…..feel bad for him a bit b/c he is in a tough spot AGAIN with a pissed off player….but every day that goes by they get painted more in a corner…
then its either keep him and hope he acts cool and stays with a new deal (if denver wants to keep him) OR….your forced to trade him and you get below market value…
we all know fair value trades are rare in the NFL….. good luck to lil charlie weiss / beli-jerk…
fully confident in MR T….
-
I dont feel bad with McDaniels because he is the one who is basically pissing these players off. Shanahan never had that mnay problems with these players on the field or practice.
-
Denver has no choice…
Its either they keep an unhappy player and lose, or they trade him and lose. Might as well lose on your own terms, with players that you can develop. Let’s be honest… the second Cutler got traded, the Broncos immediately went into rebuilding mode. McDaniels is acting all tough now to cover his real mistake, but the damage is already done. I trust Mr. T to get this through one way or the other. It makes too much on field sense to let this opportunity go. Marshall in the Jets offense would be lethal for defenses. How do you stop us? Football is all that matters… the product on the field and winning fixes everything… bad behavior, PSL sales, fan support. Tanny knows that, Woody knows that, every fan should know that. The fact that they are asking for Harris is encouraging. Its so absurdly ridiculous, it just shows how desperate they are. Its like “yeah ok Denver, suuuurrrrre… take Jenkins too.” Every rumor and every day that goes by is just bringing Marshall’s trade value down. Tanny is waiting to pounce. If Denver is dumb enough to keep him, then McDaniels should start applying for new jobs early in the season.
-
Excellent question Bent….. Maybe Mortenson should report that…
You are exactly right on the KC move.
-
Well see when the Jets are 6-3 and the Broncos go 3-6 and theyneed to dump salary to get ready for next year. Great Coach you have there Denver!!! The Broncos stink. They dont know it yet. There stubborn and too prideful of an oraganization. They will lose Marshall one way or the other. They already lost his attention. All he has to do is drop a ball!!! Drop it while the Jets are Hot!!!!!
-
Im starting to get restless… why is Matt Jones not being worked out by the Jets? What a better way to calm everyone down than to at least bring a starter in the NFL with size.
-
NJets
This is crazy. As of right now Jones is being worked out by the Titans and the Jets are going to be left holding their you know whats this season. Why? Because Rex has some thing with Jones? You know Tom Coughlin had some thing with Plaxico Burress. It may have ended badly, but not until it helped the Giants win a Superbowl. The coach is only supposed to have part of the say in who gets brought in.
-
AKADrew,
Mr. T is a quality GM that makes good moves. But he shows a knack for undervaluing draft picks which is one of the fatal mistakes that franchises make. If you show me a team that constantly wheels and deals its picks, i will show you a team that consistently does not make the playoff. Considering salary cap limitations, a team needs to be able to find and develop late round talent, have a number of quality high round picks, and sign good complimentary FAs. Mr. T has been 50/50 on all those.
He tends to throw away later round picks, making it hard to find late round talent. Yeah, I know, I know, Dwight Lowery. But who else? The Shonn Greene trade up was a perfect storm of wastefulness, and that’s where we may have found our Marques Cholston or Brandon Marshall.
He’s brought in some good FAs and done some good trades. But why he’s looking past Matt Jones I just don’t understand.
He’s made some good moves in the high rounds. The Revis trade was unnecessary, so was the Harris trade. VG was a bad pick. VG never showed anything at Ohio State to say that he was a LB. He should’ve gone to a 4-3 team to be a 4-3 End. Hopefully Rex can work some magic on him. The Sanchez trade was a work of art.
Yes, he’s a quality GM. But he continues to make some seriously bad moves.
-
igs,
The Titans are the only team in the league to even look at Matt Jones, and there are plenty of teams that need receiving help. Maybe, just maybe, there’s something else going on that we don’t know about. -
Maybe Mole, but google the reports, stats, and history, I don’t really see what it could be. I know the guy has some character concerns, I’m not looking past that, but the team is considering Brandon Marshall. I mean, character issues?
I’m not the only one wondering what’s up with this situation either.
-
I know that, igs, but what other reason can there be? Tannenbaum inquires about and does his due diligence on everyone; it just seems to be his M.O. whether he’s really interested or not. (Miles Austin, for crissakes.) There has to be something about Jones that we are not privy to that is keeping all the other teams away.
-
You may be right Mole, but I don’t take it for face value. Until I know otherwise I will chalk it up to plan old Terry Bradway ineptitude. I’ve been pushing Jones for a long time on this blog. When he puts up a 1200 yard season with Tennessee, across from Kenny Britt, I’m going to be hoping mad and jealous.

No rational football organization would even contemplate trading a #1 and Harris (if the rumors are true) for a talented, but immature, clueless player that will cost the team a bundle and alienate their best player. However, is Tannenbaum so concerned about his own status with the organization that he feels compelled to consider such a move?
