Buzz: Did the Jets Claim ANOTHER Player?

by Bent on September 6th, 2009 at 8:31 pm

EDIT: No they haven’t. MHR have confirmed the report was erroneous and Crowder was NOT claimed by the Jets.

Original Post:

I don’t know how reliable this source is but the Jets have reportedly claimed Defensive Lineman Tim Crowder. Crowder is a former 2nd round pick out of Texas and could add depth to the defensive line.

If legit, who goes next? Izzo? Cole/Coleman?

    MAKE SENSE Tanny!!

  2. avatar StvDoe says:

    Bent,

Do you really consider an unknown “tweeter” a source?

  3. avatar Bent says:

I reckon this is an exclusive because I can’t find it anywhere else. Either that or it’s completely inaccurate!

  4. avatar robert06907 says:

check their twitter.. says report false.

  5. avatar Bent says:

They’ve just updated their feed to say the report was incorrect, so I’ve updated the original post, but Mile High Report is not an unknown source, StvDoe, they’re a reputable sbnation blog.

  6. avatar GG says:

    Also, per ESPN:

    http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest/post/_/id/4433/updating-nfc-west-roster-moves

… they apparently put in a claim for TE Bear Pascoe but were awarded Mulligan instead. Which is a shame because I think I might have preferred Pascoe instead!

  7. avatar Bent says:

Good find, GG. Plenty of guys mentioned Pascoe as someone they’d like to see the Jets target.

  8. avatar brian g. says:

GG, the jets probably made a waiver priority and listed Mulligan before pascoe

  9. avatar Bent says:

Yes, that’s exactly what the ESPN report says.

When all is said and done, I reckon 35 correct answers will be enough to win our name that squad contest.

  10. avatar GG says:

    @brian g:

Ah, that makes sense, thanks! I think if most of the posters here were filling out the waiver prioritization, the order would have been reversed!

  11. avatar Harvlis says:

    Bent,

For all of the great information that you have provided, you get a big pass on this one. Sadly, I feel Crowder would help us more than anybody we have already picked up. I am sure Tan the Man is far from done.

  12. avatar Bent says:

Thanks – I thought you guys would want to know it was out there anyway, even if only for 15 minutes and I was careful to report it as a rumor and not news!

  13. avatar JetOrange says:

The guy was a second round pick from a big school (Texas) in 2007 , 6’4 275… Didn’t work out in Denver when they were running a 4-3, apparently hasn’t picked up the ne 3-4 that either… Rex will get the talent out

  14. avatar Bent says:

Orange – No he won’t…the report was erroneous.

  15. avatar jameson says:

During their last preseason game (Denvers) the announcers said one of Jarvis Moss or Tim Crowder would be released.

I would be happy with either, though, Crowder is more a hand-in-the dirt DE, a sturdy run stopper.

    great news if true.

  16. avatar Bent says:

It’s not true. The post was updated to reflect this a long time ago.

Moss made the team, which was apparently a surprise to many.

  17. avatar cabras says:

Another journeyman, I love Rex, but if a guy can’t play I am not sure that he will get the talent out.
Still wondering why we give up picks (Shepperd, OConnell) like the govt gives handouts. It will haunt us in the future not to have these picks, 2011 the Pats are already prepping with 2 first rounders and we are signing other teams castoffs.

  18. avatar Bent says:

Hutch is reporting that the Jets are interested in signing FB Lorenzo Neal, but intend to wait until after the season so they don’t have to guarantee his contract.

  19. avatar Cmart28 says:

I don’t want Crowder, he couldn’t make a Broncos team that’s weak up front and new to the 3-4

I don’t know why Neal would sign here with Richardson already there, unless the Jets are planning on using some 3 back sets

  20. avatar Matt E. says:

Mulligan didn’t play football until his 2nd year of college, at a D3 school, and then he transfered to Maine. He’s much more raw than every other 24 yr old, but Jets must think his upside is high. I hate carrying 4 qb’s, especially when none of them are vets. Loved the punter’s fake against Buffalo, in the Hall of Fame game earlier this year. Anyone is better than Hodges.

  21. avatar James says:

    they kept Woodhead after all

  22. avatar Johnny in Miami from Staten says:

    Where is Brandon Marshall ??

  23. avatar Joey says:

Does anyone know if all this twitter stuff is true or not because this is getting me worked up. kerry rhodes is saying stuff.

  24. avatar ronnie says:

Rhodes updated his twitter account saying these types of things takes time and that he’s not trying to hold us up…..we shall see.

  25. avatar santi171 says:

if my mind does serve me correctly, i believe that the favre trade last years was at around this same time in the evening…just saying

  26. avatar J-Kay says:

It seems many (most?) teams have named their practice squad (or at least parts of it). Why are we taking so long on that announcement?

  27. avatar Green Lantern says:

Peter King is getting on my nerves…its like he is looking at TJB and shooting down everything.. He said don’t expect no O’Connel/ Marshall swap

  28. avatar Cmart28 says:

J-Kay, the Jets just cut 3 guys who would probably be top choices for the practice squad if they clear waivers, which takes more than a few hours. They’ll likely see who out of Woodhead, Renkart, and Kracalik clear before doing anything.

  29. avatar Jimmy Shnoogen says:

Wasn’t Peter King the one who said Brett Favre would never come to New York? Don’t let him discourage us, no one believed Favre would come here, and look how that turned out.

  30. avatar santi171 says:

mangold just updated his twitter – “I must tell you all ignorance is bliss. Now I have to keep a secret that I’d love to share but I need to investigate futher. Good things tho”

  31. avatar Revisisbeast says:

    Marshall?

  32. avatar Green Lantern says:

It has to be a trade. If it was a Leon deal why are they being so secretive. In a trade they have to be secretive because of tampering.

  33. avatar Revisisbeast says:

    Well find out by 2mrro

  34. avatar Nelson17 says:

its tomorrow I want to know now haha

  35. avatar Revisisbeast says:

Lol this is gnna keep me up all night

  36. avatar Green Lantern says:

“Tho I have talked to @kerryrhodes I still know nothing real and have no details. I’m just as pumped to find out as the rest of you. G’night”

    Mangold’s last tweet.

  37. avatar david harris says:

This is terrible, its definatley gonna be like Kerry Rhodes won an NBA championship using the spurs in NBA Live 2009…

  38. avatar James in TN says:

Much ado about nothing, We have a game in 6 days how is anyone gonna pickup our offense in such short time. Don’t get punk’d.
