Jets Continue to Make Mockery of “Final” Roster
Busy day today…
Further to E. Weeks’ report below, here’s some more info on the latest roster moves:
- Punter AJ Trapasso is best known for hitting the scoreboard in Dallas and running in a fake punt in the Hall of Fame game, but his net average in the preseason (39.0 yards) was actually the same as that of Reggie Hodges.
- Fullback Jason Davis is in his fourth season and joins his fifth team. He has good speed and pass catching skills and played in 5 games with the Bears last season. The move might have something to do with assistant GM Scott Cohen who brought Davis to the NFL and had him signed to the Eagles for two seasons – here’s his twitter feed.
- Tight End Matthew Mulligan was also undrafted and is more of a blocker than a pass catcher, although he has good size (6-4, 270). He only caught 3 passes in preseason, but one was a 15 yard TD against Mangini’s Browns.
Everyone is second guessing what the Jets will do next. The four guys about to be cut are certain to include Reggie Hodges, but Rich Cimini is reporting the Jets will retain four QBs on their roster for the time being. One theory as to why that might be comes via the Denver Post, who are suggesting that the Jets will trade O’Connell to the Broncos, who were one of the teams to put in a claim for him (and, of course, HC Josh McDaniels will know him well, having been his OC for two years). The source notes, however, that the Broncos have no intention of trading disgruntled WR Brandon Marshall.
The three other cuts, assuming Cimini is right, would presumably put Cole/Coleman, Renkart/Izzo, Kracalik and (gulp) Woodhead most at risk.

Kerry Rhodes on his Twitter account said:
jet fans expect a big announcement coming soon lol!
idk if hes playing with us but it makes sense. All the waiver picks ups and roster spots open points to a trade coming up.
B. Marshall may be on his way here.
If Rhodes is lying, I may have to stop following him.

I saw KR’s tweet also — unlikely he would know anything unless the trade is done and they’ve already told the players. He may be speculating like us fans, but it sure does seem like something is up…… and we know Tanny likes to wheel ‘n deal.
-
If Rhodes knows something, that doesn’t mean it is B. Marshall. I hope it doesn’t. Maybe the Jets are picking up a CB or DE.
-
I really think it may be Marshall. If you look at Kerry’s twitter he tells someone “I think you may be right”. That person has been speculating on his twitter that the Jets are trading Clemens in a deal with Denver. You put two and two together and…
-
I think O’Connell would go to Denver in any deal.
-
Yep, I just saw that “hint, hint” response from KR… unless he’s just playing… all signs point to BMarsh — be careful what you wish for though…
-
aw rhodes dont do this to me….
-
I’m crossing my fingers that this unknown deal/trade won’t make me embarrassed to be Jets fan.

Adam Schefter reports
“To make room, Jets waived P Reggie Hodges, T Mike Kracalik, LB Brandon Renkart and RB Danny Woodhead. There goes the Rudy story.”
-
As they say, “where there’s smoke, there’s fire.” The B. Marshall trade rumors(smoke) have been floating around for a while now, so confirmation of the trade(fire) could be coming soon. Sigh…

I was thinking how the Jets were gracious to their good soldier QB’s , letting Pennington sign with the Dolphins, and giving Favre his release. Say what you will about Clemens, but he has been a good soldier.
The nice thing to do is trade him to Seattle (I’m not a big Senaca Wallace fan) Hasselback has got a lot of miles on him, and broke down last year. Clemens, who lives in Oregon, gets to home , sort of, gives him a good spot to compete, Seattle gets some insurance, and the Jets a sixth round pick… Win/Win/Win -
sounds good to me d.branch would bo nice
-

The Fake Punt, (which is awesome), for those who haven’t seen it.

We don’t have the money to sign Marshall. He wants top receiver pay. However, Crabtree is dangling out there and could cost less. I think Clemens could be in the run to start in San Fran and would at least take the number 2 spot from Alex Smith. If anything, it is Clemens who will be traded.
