I don't know which I find more surprising, the massive speculation here when Rhodes tweeted his initial promise of "news", or the backlash and disappointment upon the revelation of said "news".

Twitter is the flavor of the month.

Who takes such things seriously?

TJB's immediacy is great. Getting our fixes of Jets news nearly as it happens is a wonderful thing, and I'm truly appreciative of those who make it happen. But apparently this isn't enough for many people. They need it NOW. Hell, they need it yesterday. Twitter provides the illusion of bringing you the news BEFORE it happens. The reality is it brings you reams of trivial information, or outright misinformation, along with the occasional nugget.

I'm so glad that the days when I had to wait for tomorrow's paper are long gone. But the internet is more than enough for me.

Then again, I'm old. Maybe I'm just a curmudgeon.

I thought it was very symbolic, like Rhodes it was full of potential, but also like him in a game not much on delivering the goods.

This was obviously a PR stunt from jetBlue and the Jets... and a pretty good one at that. we've all been talking about this for days.

Kerry is the perfect person for this - the face of the D, totally active on Twitter, and just generated a ton of press for an announcement that probably would've gone under the radar on the day after Labor Day had he not done his part.

I wonder if existing contract stipulations about "promotional appearances and support" extend to online/social media.

Anyone who's been following the NFL for any amount of time should realize that a player would NEVER break contract/trade info or news about another player, regardless if it were on Twitter, or in your traditional print newspaper. The FO would've put the kibosh on that faster than you can say 'Child Please.'

Here's what I loved from the announcement:

"As New York’s hometown airline, the Jets are core to what it means to be a sports fan in the city,” said Barger.

Seriously? I'm as big a Jets fan as anyone else here, but the Jets are the ugly stepchild of NY sports. The only team in the area that gets treated worse is the Nets.

Pete57,

I couldn't agree more. I already consider cell phones a minor nuisance, can't ever imagine myself "twittering".
