am I the only one who thinks Wallace Wright should move to safety? Let me put it like this:

Awesome tackles I've seen him make on teams: 1,000,000
Awesome catches made as WR: 0

He's big, fast, and he hits. He has a nose for the ball and ostensibly knows the passing game.

Move him to S.

I definitely think we should get on this, hes definitely an upgrade over Smith. Smith does have his value in things other than receiving, but in terms of the WR position, Baskett is better than Smith.

NYCPE-

He is most certainly the #3. Now, is he the 3rd receiving option for the team? GOD no. But he is the 3rd WR on the depth chart. Clowney didn't get any burn, while Smith played the majority of the game.

Smith and Izzo play different ST positions. Smith is a gunner. His speed is his asset. He gets to the ball first and is supposed to (ideally) make a play, but if not, at least funnel the return man towards help/the sideline.

His main purpose is the wildcat and trick plays, so I think the "gadget play" line most certainly applies. When he is in on a normal play, it's usually as a decoy. You don't sign a WR for his blocking. You expect him to be able to block, but that's not why you pick one up. And with one of the best WR coaches in the NFL, I'm willing to bet whoever we put out there is going to block (Clowney got a lot of praise in this department in preseason).

He isn't even the best specials guy (at his position) on the team. He might be 3rd best behind Wright and Carrol. He is not that valuable to this team and I would cut him and let Clowney get reps, see what we have there, and he won't be that difficult to replace on specials.

from Cimini's blog:

"There is a lot of speculation out there about WR Hank Baskett being traded or released by the Eagles. Naturally, the Jets are being linked to Baskett, because they're linked to seemingly every available veteran receiver, but I'm told the Jets have no interest in the 6-4 pass catcher."

Brendan -

Couldn't agree more that his zero catches are disappointing. Couldn't disagree more that fast special teams guys are a dime a dozen (if so, why did we sign Izzo) or that he should have "gadget play" on his back. If it is so obvious that he would run a gadget play, why did it work so well? He was actually in on a bunch of plays and yes it sucks that he had no catches, but he did have some really good blocks that extended plays, which is critical for a WR. Also not sure if I agree that he is the 3rd and not 4th WR - that corps is so fluid, it's could be either one. I'm not against upgrading the position, but not sure that the Philly castoff is any better just because he is taller. Marcus Henry is taller, too. But I see why Smith aggravates you, I guess I just appreciate some of the other aspects of his game more than you do.
