The Tuesday Top 5: Happy Birthday TJB!
To help celebrate TJB’s fifth anniversary, I thought I’d take a break from my website (officially sanctioned shameless plug) to join in the fun today. And since five is the number of the day, rather than trot out a full Top 10, here’s half of that — and not even on Thursday.
Here are –
The Top 5 Things That R in CT Has Learned From Reading TJB the Past Five Years
5. That TJB has changed the world! The passion and interest of non-traditional media — aka “blogs like TJB started by fans” — has dramatically changed how football is now covered. Five years ago, what you read in the paper from August to January — and then around the draft — is what you got online. But the fans’ interest in their teams, and the ability for guys like Bassett to create their own sites, and thus, find and share news (and eventually cover the teams) around-the-clock, year-round, has forced the mainstream media to follow suit. Every reporter now has his own blog, they give us blow-by-blow updates from hereto previously unreported activies such as mini camp and training camp, and work 12 months a year to keep up.
Sure, us fans had a part, but it was the bloggers like Bassett that have lead the charge.
4. As they say in Avenue Q, the internet is for … pics of the Flight Crew! Yes, gratuitous pics, but pics none the less. Enjoy boys, enjoy.
3. Jets fans rock! There are lots and lots and lots of Jets fans out there who are not drunken Gate D troglodytes, but intelligent, articulate and passionate individuals who know and love football, know and love Jets history and know and love the Jets.
And to be honest, as much as I love keeping up with the Jets news, I love keeping up with this community. When something happens, I look forward to hearing what Bassett or Bent has to say, or any one of the hundreds of regular posters here, from sackdance99 to Nikolas to Harvlis to Harlan Lachman (I will get a kewpie some day, I swear!)
2. When the Jets win, all is calm, but when they lose … look out! I don’t even have to look at the final score of a game — one glance at the number of comments on game thread on a Monday morning will tell you the story. To paraphrase (okay, outright steal) the catchphrase over on TJB’s sister site, metsblog: “One team, one million GMs.”
1. BB is king! No one in the blogosphere works harder, nor is as fair and open-minded as Brian Bassett. Not only is he the founder and creator of this esteemed site, but its heart and soul. His enthusiasm, good humor and affable sensibilities are what have made TJB so great, while his commitment to providing something new to read EVERY SINGLE DAY is as strong as our commitment to the green-and-white.
Congrats on five great years Bassett! Here’s to being able to celebrate a Super Bowl win here (sooner rather than later), and much more success …

Big time Congrads! The site is great! Like our D!
-
Kewpie to R in CT for finally figuring out how to cop one (gratuitous flattery being sufficient).
Have 5 years Basset and Bent and thanks for creating something for me to do every day.

Bassett is great, but I think you accidentally embedded a picture of Michael Moore next to his name

I am new to the site and started about 1 year ago. I love what you guys do and log-in more than 2 times each day. Love the intensity from Rex’s team.
Best coach “on paper” since Weeb.He gives the Jets the best chance to win. Only an attacking “D” will defeat better team like New England. Consider the Super Bowl with the Giants. They created the “Model” to beat New England and we saw that comming tougether last Sunday against the Texans. Go Jets!
Based on last nights game I think we have a good chance to beat New Englnad.

The TJB rules! Thanks for allowing me the privilege to vent on issues from short QBs (sorry, KC) to deferring opening kickoff (thanks, Rex). But, most of all, it’s just great to see a site with passionate Jets fans…maybe one day the Giants will be the second team in the NYC market and the TJB will be recognized for starting the revolution!

Great work!!!! Keep it up, the twitter updates all day are the best!
-
Congratulations to Brian and Bent, you’ve done a wonderful job. I’ve been with you guys for 3 plus years and look forward to hitting TJB 1st thing every day (even on Christmas but not 1st thing).
Some of my favorite contributors are (even if I get your name wrong) SD99, R in CT, NYC Parking Expert, NYCage, Harlan, James in TN, Large Barge, AKA…Drew, DSmizzle, The Editor and a host of others.
Again, Congrats!!

You guys all do a terrific job. It is the last word on all Jets news and opinion for me. I love the combination of news, opinion, fan enthusiasm, and gallows humor that is a must to surviving as a Jets fan. I log into this site far more than I probably should, happy 5th TJB, and Bassett, thanks for not censoring negative commentary like Cerrone does!

5 things I look forward to when I get to the site…..
- Someone getting a Kewpie. It has become a legendary reward and its awesome.
- Arguing with igs or fonzie. It makes my day
- Reading any of Bents cap “strategy”…… hilarious “transcripts” or make believe “agent” discussions
- Getting to vent how much I hate Drew Coleman. Who has replaced Justin Miller as my “hate” player
- Actually having a “real” conversation with Jet fans that get it. (at least most of them) ….and knowing they understand what I am saying becasue they know exactly how I feel every time the Jets line up.
Congrats again guys. The site is great!

Congratulations all!

Wow, five years! Has it been five years already? Bassett, get me a tissue, I think I’m getting misty….
Congrats on your wonderful accomplishment, and continued success(es) going forward.
TJB, like the JETS, totally ROCKS !
-
thanks for giving us all the outlet we needed as jets fans!
-
Yep, R in CT pretty much sums it up.
There have been so many dark days since Harry Wismer formed the Titans to not much acclaim. There have been a few glorious days as well. So, the Titan/Jet fan is a hardy breed, indeed.
But with Bassett and Bent and the rest of the community of Jets fans here, this is always a vital and vigorous team!
Happy 5th Anniversary!

thanks guys for the blog. its great
but back to jets
is mayo out for next week against the jets -
great job fellas. Two years on here and I love talking and posting with REAL fans, with actual knowledge of football.

As a long time Jet fan who has suffered (mostly) in solitude behind enemy lines in Boston, I wanted to add my thanks for your site. I’m a relative newbie but I have enjoyed your site very much so far.
It’s a lot easier to suffer the lows and even more fun to celebrate the wins with fellow travelers.

Wow guys, 5 years for a blog is a real achievement (as a lot of them die out almost immediately). The time this blog has been up is a testament to the TJB team’s effort and their commitment to putting forth such a great product. Thank you guys so much for providing a space and stories that let real Jets fans congregate and converse (and let’s be honest….complain). You guys are the best, keep up the good work!

Happy Birthday!!
I read this blog at least 50x day.
Just wait til your 21st….

Great work guys. I only started commenting recently, but have used the site for 2 years. Best site for Jets news on the web, which is saying something with Boone and Cimini out there.
When I open Firefox, I instinctively hit t, go down to thejetsblog, j, go down to “Jets Forum” (prosportsdaily), c, go down to Cimini, and n, go down to newsday (Boone).

since i have been a jet fan( anyone remember carl barzalauskas?) i have spent a lot of time seething, and moping, and crying, and cursing, mostly by myself. since i’ve found this blog, mondays have been a lot easier to take. thanks guys!
-
This blog is swaggerlicious right now…
Congrats guys.
By the way… Rex called all the fans out. If i didn’t live in Miami id be at the stadium going crazy (I’ll be doing my part for the Monday night game down here in a few weeks). People need to set the tone of this game on Sunday… after watching them last night, its totally winnable. Anyone else tired of Bill Belechick and his “genius”? If he didnt have Tom Brady he’d be nothing. So what do we do? We take Tom Brady out of the game. Go Jets!
-
Congrats on 5 years to my FAVORITE Jets site!
-
Congratulations to the first blog I ever loved and the one I continue to love best.
This site continues to improve every year.
Thanks for giving me an oasis from political news during and after my work days.
Hoping we all are here together to enjoy the transformation from snakebitten cynics to gratified victors. -
only knew about this site for a couple weeks now(was a nyjet.com guy) but this site i feel is better(good articles, more commentors, and you aint got to wait an hour to see your comment on the screen) wish i knew about it 5 years ago
-
Congratulations on what this site has become. It’s truly one of my favorite things to do everyday.
The content is great and I look here for all Jets news!I’ll be doing my part this Sunday, making Rex proud!
-
Great job Bass……..
-
Thanks TJB for giving me a small voice.
-
Its been a pleasure guys, thanks for all the hard work these past 5yrs. I’ve been here for just the same time, since that magical ’04 season. Always with daily updates and fantastic coverage.
Three cheers for BB & company!!
-
HAPPY B-DAY GUYS ! THANX for all the fun !
-
Happy Birthday
the reason i started reading this blog is because it was the only one that kept up with my constant need for jets news and speculation. i only browsed for a while until i started posting and found it great to interact with other fans. thanks for all the great work you guys put into this blog, i think i speak for all when i say its truly appreciated alot.
-
Happy Bithday boys…keep up the GREAT work! J-E-T-S JETS! JETS!! JETS!!!
-
Thanks Bent, Bassett & Company.
You do what you love and you’re really good at doing it, so it shows. Don’t know what we’d do without this site?
Probably rely on bad information in a timely manner or no information at all – think Mangini. You’ve made being a Jets fan more fulfilling!

Congrats Bass. Great job.
