Well well! Someone from last year’s coaching staff is finally willing to say what millions of Jets fans already figured out last year. Jimmy Raye, the Jets former RB coach (and now OC in San Francisco) said this about Favre last season.
… [Raye] did say that the adjustment was “very difficult” when Favre landed in New York last year.
“We were way down the road in the direction we were going when that happened,” he said. “It was somewhere mid October, late October before … it took us most of the month of September just to get accustomed to the cadence. It was – and I’ve kind of not thought about it in a while – but it was very difficult for (receivers) Laveranues (Coles) and Jerricho (Cotchery) because it was a totally different style and they didn’t have time to work together. Maybe we were different than the situation he’s in now. But it took us a long time … the adjustment was monumental.”
And Raye’s right, there were numerous false starts and that sort of thing at the start of the season. I’m sure that it didn’t help that Favre was probably a clockpuncher, meaning I doubt he did as little as possible to work with Cotchery or Coles past practice, stay late for extra meetings or time in the film room, etc. When you manufacture your way to avoiding most of training camp, it’s no surprise that it would take that long to get everything adjusted.

it seems the more and more you read about farve and his tenure with the jets the more you come to realize of how much of a jackass and distraction he was…the first time i heard about farve coming to NY i was happy but then i saw his first press conference and felt he didnt want to be here

I’m not going to hate on Favre. It’s easy to pile on someone when he’s no longer here.
I bet you Raye, all the Jets & yes even the fans were loving it when the team was 9-4 & looking like a super bowl contender.
Everyone is to blame for last years collapse, but to make it seem like Favre was the sole reason is wrong.

This story just underlines the ultimate stupidity of bringing Favre to NY in the first place. Yes, I continue to “hate on Favre.” And the front office – whoever was responsible for bringing the overrated chump in.

I hated the move then, and the fact that this guy’s stink still manages to permeate this team a season after he’s gone, and despite the team being 2-0 and having a completely new identity, tells you what a mess it was.
Can we sort of go Harry Potter on this, and just refer to him as “He Who Shall Remain Nameless”, but take it to the next level and just not name him — ora ny more stories about him? It’s over, he’s gone, the team has moved on (and thrived), why not us, too?!
Please, BB, no more you-know-who stories!

I wonder how a RB coach would know so much about adjusting to a qb.
Besides hes trying to grab headlines on the cusp of the niners-vikes game.
I think we are all past this, even Favre fan no. 1 (me), thinks lets move on to pay attention to the good team we have today.

The whole Favre thing seems like a bad dream. I’m glad he left and I’m glad we were able to move on in such fine fashion.

I’m glad favre is gone but bringing him in last year was the right move. Personnally I blame Mangini for the collapse. it was onbvious to a blind man that Favre was injured at the end of the season and mangini either should have say him down or game planned around the injury. Case in point the Seattle game. 40 passes? In the snow? Leon touched the ball once? That’s the coach. We could’ve run the ball every play and won that game.
As miami fans are now realizing Chad is very limited. If for no other reason, bringing Favre in caused us to move on from Chad. Think about this: If we didn’t get Favre, Chad would still be here, and even if we drafted Sanchez, he would not be playing now. -
It’s laughable how the tone has changed just from 12 months ago. We were riding high with Favre and now in retrospect it’s the worst decision in franchise history (or so it seems the way some of you are talking).
Let’s just get over it.
Not only that, there seems to be a lot of revisionist history here. I clearly recall stories posted on this blog about how Favre was staying post-practice to get in time with Coles/Cotch and now we’re “assuming” he was a “clock puncher”. Again, get over it. Let it go.

yeah but people blame Favre for this when it has nothing to do with him. It was Woody / Mangina / Tanny who snatched him up and pulled him into this scenario.

Nice post you got here. It would be great to read a bit more concerning this matter.
