Game Recap: Titans beat Oilers 24-17, hunh?
On the day you play a really good team, especially a team desperate for a victory, you expect certain things to happen. First, you expect your rookie quarterback to show his rookie-ness. Then, you figure that your weakest unit (for the Jets, that would be the offense), would be exposed. Finally, if you are honest with yourself, you have to figure that your older players, say offensive linemen over thirty-five, might show the effects of Father Time, too. Well, it all happened as expected. Mark Sanchez, the rookie quarterback looked like a rookie; Alan Faneca looked old, at times, missing two blocks that made the outcome much closer than it should have been; and, the offense struggled, only accumulating a quiet 86 yards rushing. But, the defense continued to perform superbly, and special teams dominated a very poor Titans unit (that has underperformed all season), and the Jets pulled out a convincing 24-17 win pushing their record to 3-0. Next week, they play the high-powered New Orleans Saints.
It started off auspiciously. OC Brian Scottenheimer had some new wrinkles to air out and the Jets wasted no time showing them off and they looked like they were working superbly, at least at first. The Jets took the opening kickoff down the field, starting off with passes, rather than the usual running attack, and hitting Keller and Cotchery for 18 and 17 yards respectively in a drive that featured the no huddle, which I have not seen so far this season. Sanchez ran it in from 14 yards out—but veteran football fans were whispering “he better take care of that ball” when it was knocked out of the rookie’s hands at the goal line. Luckily, he had crossed the plane but the careless ball handling would catch up with Sanchez later and lead to a Titans’ score.
Special Teams, ranked number one in the league this week by Football Outsiders, demonstrated their superiority on the first Titans’ possession, or rather before it ever happened, when Jason Trusnik knocked the ball out and recovered it on the kickoff. Sanchez seemed like a seasoned veteran on the Jets’ gift possession and he hit tight end Ben Hartsock with a touchdown pass that looked incredibly easy because of Sanchez’s spectacular play fake that sold the run to the entire Titans’ defense and not a few fans at home. Eight and a half minutes had gone by and it was Jets 14, Tennessee 0.
The Jets held the Titans to a three and out on the next possession and then the offense began driving again taking the ball into Titans’ territory but the Tennessee defense stiffened and the two teams slugged it out on alternating possessions until the second quarter. On the next Jets’ possession, after making nice progress the Jets were abruptly halted when Jevon Kearse reached out and stripped Sanchez who was, again, holding the ball carelessly. The Titans took over on their own 45. Driven, no doubt, by the thought of going 0-3, the Titans rallied. They were able to match the Jet defense’s intensity and Kerry Collins, kept relatively safe in the pocket by a solid offensive line and excellent protection, began to pick away at the Jets’ depleted secondary, missing Lito Sheppard and Donald Strickland. After first establishing the run with a nifty 20 yarder by Chris Johnson, the key play was a perfectly thrown slant to Washington for sixteen yards. Then, five straight runs by Lendale White punched the ball in making it 14-7. It was the first touchdown allowed by the New York defense all season after nine quarters of domination.
The next Titans possession would be just as one-sided as the previous one. Collins, throwing mostly out of the shotgun, dinked and dunked his way down the field leading Tennessee to a field goal just before the half. They went into the break only down by a respectable 14-10 deficit.
After the half, the Titans continued to push around the Jets on the opening possession as the Jet defenders were mostly unable to bother the Tennessee attack. The big play came on a 27 yard completion to Alge Crumpler, which put the Titans on the Jet 8. Washington beat Dwight Lowery two plays later for the score and, for the first time in the second half this season, the Jets trailed, 17-14.
The Jets offense was still in its mid-game malaise, at one point going five straight possessions at three and out, but the Titans could do nothing either and the game remained with the same score until a special teams play for the Jets would again turn it around. Having recovered a fumbled kickoff in the first half the Jets’ unit recovered Mouton’s muffed punt in the second, putting the offense where it had not succeeded in getting since early in the second quarter, on the Tennessee side of the field. With great field position, the Jets’ offense tried two runs, that didn’t work and two passes to Jerricho Cotchery that did, and in four plays, the lead changed hands again, this time for good.
But, in the end, the win would be hard won
Like last week, the Jets wouldn’t make it easy on their fans. The offense continued to sputter and, if not for the defense finally getting pressure on Collins and forcing four punts and a rushed interception (picked off by David Harris who would have another monster game with a sack besides), the outcome could easily have been different. They even survived a Mark Sanchez pick, although this one wasn’t his fault. Chansi Stuckey had the ball bounce high off his hands and it fell into Chris Hope’s grasp with 7:16 left. Indomitable with the game on the line, the defense held again. For the second straight week, a heroic defense led again by Kris Jenkins, Bart Scott and Jimmy Leonhard, made a seven point lead hold up in the fourth quarter. Like the Patriots, the Titans got the ball back with time on the clock, over and over again, but couldn’t score. Once again the Jets’ opponent would have one last chance, and the pressure would simply be too much for them.
It’s only three games. The Jets are 3-0. But, tdespite the rookie mistakes and the age warts, the team has beaten three pre-season favorites in a row and done so convincingly knocking over other teams by battering them into submission. What’s more, they didn’t skid after abig win last week. The team is showing signs of maturity. Worse for the rest of the league, there is the reminder that Mark Sanchez is only playing his nineteenth meaningful game since high school, and that the defense is still learning the system. What will happen when they know what they’re doing? And there’s a silver lining to their brutal schedule at the beginning of the season. This baptism under fire can only toughen them for the road ahead. After facing the Texans, Patriots and the Titans (and next week the Saints), it’s hard to imagine a letdown against the softer part of the schedule.
The Jets aren’t perfect by any means and they’ve still got a long road ahead. But, whatever Jet fan it was who sold his soul to the devil for a smash-mouth coach and a promising young quarterback, I just have to say one thing. Thanks, Man. You’ve got my back.
The Jets were in blue and gold Titans uniforms while the Titans were in white and Blue Oilers togs as the NFL continued its stupid tricks, throwback uniform escapade for another week. Older fans were overheard to say, “what the …?”

Another great win … I’m almost starting to … believe … this isn’t the “same ol’ Jets”!
What can you say? They came out strong, fell behind, but managed to rally for the victory. Ryan has the team firing on all cylinders, Sanchez has been remarkable for a rookie and it’s all good — quite simply, they’re TAKING IT TO THE REXTREME!!!
Seriously looking forward to the matchup with New Orleans next week. Man, what a game that should be — the unstoppable offense vs. organized chaos! I will enjoy this win tonight and tomorrow morning, but next Sunday can’t get here soon enough. ..
-
Obviously they weren’t perfect, but they did enough to win and that’s all that matters right now. Sure the rookie looked like a rookie and the O-Line struggled, but the team took advantage of opportunities and the defense closed out the game when it mattered by shutting the Titans down in the 4th quarter and mkaing Collins throw incomplete passes on his final 13 attempts. One sign of a great team is that they find ways to win even when they’re not playing great. Sure we have plenty of things to work on, but to be 3-0 with a rookie HC and QB, you gotta love where we are and the potential of where we can go from here. Really looking forward to the game against the Saints. I’ll be down there at the game cheering on the J-E-T-S!!!
-
Bent,
I definitely agree with you about the throw. He made the right decision to throw to Stuckey, but simply overthrew him. Sanchez didn’t play as well as he did the last two weeks, but that is also because he was consistently being put in 3rd and long situations because of penalties and our lack of a consistent running game. He has had an incredible year so far and any Jets fan would be crazy to complain, but the one thing he does need to work on is holding onto the ball. When you hold the ball low and away from your body as a QB, you are going to have the ball stripped a lot. That said, the Jets are 3-0 and i definitely cant complain. Lets make it 4-0 against the Saints! -
3-0 in the AFC….Takin’ out a wounded bunch of animals….Forget drinkin the kool-aide IM SNIFFIN THE PACKET!!
-
It was an ugly game but all that matters is that the Jets won. The Titans defensive line is very good especially Tony Brown who was all over Mangold and Sanchez the whole game. It was frustrating watching Collins pick the secondary apart in the 2nd and 3rd quarter but thankfully Ryan started blitzing more in the 4th quarter and KC got exposed as the old man that he is. With Sheppard and Strickland back next week the secondary is going to be more than ready to face Brees.
P.S. By the way I was the fan who sold his soul to the Devil so the Jets could become this type of team :)
-
just watched the bart scott press conference he is the man pumps you up just listening to him…actually im gonna play chicken with an 18 wheeler in my rollerskates peace!!!!
-
Also included in Sanchez getting better in time and the defensive still coming together is the impending addition of Pace and the fact that Sheppard and Strickland missed the game.
Today was a better win than the Patriots game was. They played downright poor for some lengthy stretches today but were able to respond to a desperate team, silly turnovers, and a deficit.
-
We really need a second established WR. Stuckey isn’t going to cut it.
-
Very poor performance by the offense. This team is better than this type of play. We all herd Ryan say we would no longer play not to lose, well please pass that on to Schottenheimer. Once again we go against the 32nd ranked pass defense and we run 90% of the game on first and second downs. This put Sanchez in a bad position even with a poorly ranked passing D.
Anyone remember the Seahawks game last year? Yep, ranked 32nd in pass D and we run run run and lost 3-13.
Shotty can be brilliant at play design but his play calling can scare the hell out of you. If there was ever a game to see what Sanchez could really do, this was it. I am a bit curious why we never went back to the no huddle after the first drive.Last but not least. When the Oilers/Titans came out at half time I believe it was second down and eight. Oilers snap the ball and Collins throws it away while still in the pocket. There was no receiver within 15 yards never mind 10, but yet no call? Did I miss something?
-
nyr2k2:
Stuckey is fine…. and the INT is on Sanchez, not Stuckey. In fact, Stuckey made a very gopod catch earlyon if I recall. -
Braylon Edwards would complete this offense even though Stuckey has been SOLID.
-
im a little iffy on our wr’s i know next year lee evans from buff. is a f.a. i say we try to pry him away from them he could be a good compliment to j-co
-
stucky is fine …the ball sailed on sanchez a few times…not to mention the ball slipping out of his hands a few times as well…but the main thing is sanchez learns from his mistakes and makes plays… also he doesn’t let these bad plays get the best of him…he moves foward…he’s 3-0 and the 1st rookie ever to do so…lets be greatfull that we have him and lets talk about his 2 TD passes and 1 rushing TD…which was risky but 1 hell of a play by him…he was 1 not to be denied…just my thoughts…
-
Why pick on Stuckey Our QB played like a rookie. That is what he is, we knew he would do this. We won a ugly one!!
Drew and the Saints next week he scores alot.
-
i say he should be rookie of the week 3 weeks in a row…i mean he really impressed me…he didn’t let the game get away from him after the rough 2nd and 3rd quarters…he played like a seasoned vet…and took the game back from ten…thank god we have him…and i was against picking him…glad i was wrong…just my thoughts…
-
My comment about Stuckey had absolutely nothing to do with the interception. I put that on Sanchez. However, it seems clear to me that the offense could use another productive WR. I don’t see it coming from Stuckey.
-
lets face it…if this team is gonna make it into the playoffs and do any damage once we get there its gonna come down to how well our defense can keep up this excellent play…cant wait to see what this defense looks like once pace gets back and strickland and sheppard are healthy…good team win…saints next big test…go jets
-
the saints hasnt played a lights out d yet the bills held them to only 27 points i think we win next week IF we can hold them to 21 pts…3-0 sounds great especially we were supposed to be either 1-2 or 0-3 right now
-
I think that this was the most difficult win this season. We were outplayed for long stretches both on offense and defense. This game was decided on special teams. MVP of the game: Mike Westhoff
-
Seriously, picking on the WR’s after Cotchery has a 100 yard game, and Stuckey made two really nice catches. The pick was the QB’s fault, overthrew him and was too high. If anything the O-line looked less than stellar, the Titans rarely blitzed but had a constant push with just 4 rushers all game long. Hopefully Strickland and/or Sheppard are back next week for the Saints, Lowery just does not cut it as a #2 CB.
-
This team might be special. If we roll New Orleans next week, watch out. Nobody in the 4 after that is our caliber.
-
nyr
be patient…he’s better then he has been these past 3 games…he’ll do better…just my thoughts…
-
Anybody have a feel for how our punter did today? I know at least one punt was garbage.
-
i just hope the offense dont go dry for long periods of time like we have the last 2 weeks anymore we won both games which says alot about this team as a whole but this cant happen every week
-
everybody knew it was gonna be our D that would carry us to the playoffs…our O just has to do enough not to lose the game for us…which pretty much is happening…yea we all want a more consistant O…but were not perfect…we have alot of work to do on all sides of the ball…just my thoughts…3-0…
-
lamjones…hes not great but no team had a long punt return on us yet and he seems to hold on fg’s good…what do you expect for a guy who got signed a week be4 the regular season
-
Yeah, but we’re a WR away from a great team. I know Marshalls got some tude problems, but could you imagine with our d, keller, marshall our backs..if we added a big time wr you’re talking about not only the top d, but one of the best o’s in the game aswell. Obviosuly we can get cold, but if we keep this up, at the deadline i think nows the time to pony up that pick and go for it all.
-
Sanchez lost his grip on the game (pun intended) in the second quarter. Didn’t he play in rain at USC – and I thought his hands were big? Most troubling issue is the Thomas Jones looks pedestrian, and the line didn’t exactly open some huge holes for him. considering Rex called out the OL before the game, can’t say they responded, which concerns me. They’ve been together for awhile, and opened holes for Jones last year. Are the D’s just daring Sanchez to beat them?
-
Hey Jet Fans,
When was the last time you could remember, Jet coaches making half-time or in-game adjustments
to their game plan. WOW! Impressive! -
lamjones, this punter blows. He’s lucky the d is so good, cause he almost cost them the win. All he had to do was punt it 40 yards! and he comes uo with a 23 yarder!
-
Thomas Jones killed us, we need to use Leon more.
-
dam indy is crushing arizona…
-
Green n White is right.
“Shotty can be brilliant at play design but his play calling can scare the hell out of you. If there was ever a game to see what Sanchez could really do, this was it.”
Explain to me why you’re going up against a team with the number 1 ranked defense against the run, a defense that’s tied for last against the pass, and you unimaginatively and repeatedly hand it to your running back 3+ yards behind the line of scrimage on 1st down and ask him to run into the teeth of that defense??!!!
Sometimes you have to take what the defense gives you. So for this game maybe you use the pass to set up the run a little. Maybe a few quick 3 or 4 yard dump offs to Washington and let him do his thing after the catch. Then you can run on second down or third and short.
Yes the O-line could have opened up more running lanes but sometimes its just not there. Trust the kid. Throw the ball sometimes!
-
i feel like we might of got faneca on his way down… the line better step up cause we need that running game
-
the blame on the int can go either way at least sanchez aint throwing it right to the other team and looking clueless ot there thas why i think be4 this season ends sanchez is gonna get better once they trust him more
-
Guys tune into the Sunday Night game, there’s gonna be an interview with Rex Ryan. Hopefully there’ll be plenty of commentary tomorrow.
-
Good team find ways to win … regards whether it’s a pretty or ugly. We’re just building … Next week is a tough one.
-
rex handled himself good on that interview…you wanna hear a good interview you gotta listen to bart scotts press conference
-
when a team can win a game and not play their best football, that is the sign of a good team.
Rex thank you for changing the culture of the team.
side note: I am currently a high school coach, i want to go pro, when i graduate in a few years, I want to work for Rex
-
I love this new regime!
-
Andrew older fans may have said what the but business people were thinking ching! ching!
How do you increase merchandise sales? Let’s reintroduce these old jerseys to the public with new players!
So now we buy home jerseys, away jerseys, titan throwback jersey and throwback away jerseys…..
All that said….I got my NY Titans Thomas Jones jersey and i love it haha
-
get in line jdb
-
the titan throwback hoodies are really nice
-
i understand why they make the jets where throwback that is strictly for sales but why do they make the refs wear throwbacks do you know anyone looking to but a ref throwback?
-
green n white
“Anyone remember the Seahawks game last year? Yep, ranked 32nd in pass D and we run run run and lost 3-13.”
Did you actually watch that game? They ran 25 times for 115 yards and T. Jones only had 17 carries and they threw the ball 31 times completing only 18 with two INTS.
-
“Explain to me why you’re going up against a team with the number 1 ranked defense against the run, a defense that’s tied for last against the pass, and you unimaginatively and repeatedly hand it to your running back 3+ yards behind the line of scrimage on 1st down and ask him to run into the teeth of that defense??!!!”
explain to me why you would want to do anything but run when you’re qb can’t hold on to the ball and has thrown 6 straight incompletion and a handfull of floaters
-
The thing that annoyed me was that after running runnin running all day, they call a pass play and get picked! i know it shoulda been caught, but i’m content running the clock down and making htem come back
-
go get Bowe Chiefs say he’s on the trading block he could be the missing link for the O
-
UGLY win to put it mildly….But a win just the same- ONWARD TO NEW ORLEANS!!!!!
-
Just what the team needed–a win they didn’t deserve. There’s going to be a lot of squirming and humility in the film room tomorrow. Hopefully this will serve to maximize the team’s focus and motivation as it prepares for its road game in New Orleans next week.
-
LCG,
It’s called balance and you need that to win consistently in the NFL. If it wasn’t for that holding call TJ would’ve had a big run towards the end, which is why you don’t go away from it.
How many times did they actually run on 2nd down? I don’t think they ran that much on 2nd down. They would run on 1st and throw on 2nd, predictably. That’s more of a problem than actually the fact that they were running.
-
This is a game the Jets always used to lose. The ugly, wet day at Giants stadium after a big win. WE ALWAYS lose this game BUT NOT THIS YEAR, NOT THESE JETS.This team has so much self belief & desire to win, it’s sick.
-
Team are stacking the box so TJ has no running room. Teams are going to dare the Jets to let Sanchez air it out, because right now that gives them the best chance at winning. Right now the Jets don’t feel comfortable enough to let Sanchez throw the ball 40 times, but im sure they will start letting him throw more as the season goes on. When Sanchez proves that he can throw the ball a lot with success, teams will be forced to drop players back into coverage and the running game will pick up again. I think right now the Jets are doing the right thing by holding Sanchez back a bit. Although he has played exceptionally well, he does make rookie mistakes and there is no point in turning the ball over when you have a defense that can carry the team. Just like with Flacco and Ryan, Sanchez will get better as the season goes on, and will be given more responsibily. When teams are forced to respect the Jets passing game, this team will be REALLY dangerous.
-
Tough game. I was a little disappointed with our O-line. They were having a tough time handling stunts in the middle. You have to give credit to the Tennessee defense — they are outstanding.
I agree with LCG. We were obvious and unimaginative in our running game. What happened to the shifting and the movement that we were promised prior to the season.
Sanchez had a mixed bag, today. He came out like gangbusters and had an awesome play-fake to the TE in the endzone but, he really hurt us, when he lost control of the ball, numerous times. Regardless, he came back strong and managed to win it for us. Imagine what he will be like, when he gets comfortable. Thank you, Tannenbaum.
Mangini seems to have lost his team, in Cleveland. Read this very harsh article, If you had any questions about keeping Mangini.
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/12274072
PS — I told you all that Percy Harvin would be a player. But, i’ll take the California kid.
-
harvlis
wow, that article is harsh..funny, but harsh..thank god for rex!
-
Great article about the genius dictator. On the other hand, We are so lucky we had a nightmare of a coach so that we could fire him & get D-REX NOW.
-
Dylan, if you can, rewatch the tape. The Titans did not stop our run by stacking the box. They handled the run most of the time with seven in the box.
The got pressure on passing downs with some nifty games with just four pass rushing.
I figure with an experienced OL, we will get better at pass D and this week Callhan will make them practice against stunts so we don’t get victimized by them all year.
OTOH, if we cannot run against a normal run D, we could find ourselves in trouble. It was actually worse that it seemed because a significant number of Leon’s rushing yards came out of our Florida renamed wildcat.
I would like to see if Shonn Greene’s faster step fixes things but since Leon got stopped cold a number of times, I suspect it is not TJ’s fault as much as I initially thought. Still we need to give the rook a shot.
harlan
-
nice piece! can’t wait for pace to come back and give us a nice boost. gholston is invisible
-
Why are they running the wildcat with leon as opposed to brad smith who can actually throw the ball? I think Smith should take some snaps, because he;s an effective weapon that we don’t utilize.
-
What I love about this team is every question about this team week in and week out they seem to answer one at a time.
1. Can we avoid the letdown game- yes did so today
2. Can we get outplayed and still win a game- yes we did today
3. Can Cotchery be a #1- i thought so before the season, the guy catches EVERYTHING (as do the other receivers) Theres a lot of players with bigger names that Cotchery is much better than, yet still doesnt seem to get the respect he deserves. We still need the speed threat, but theres no rule that says in order to be a #1 you have to be a downfield receiver, plus cotchery CAN get open down the field (you saw that today.Im having a lot of fun watching this team, its still doesnt fell like im watching the jets (not because there winning , theyve had plenty of winning seasons the past few years) its just a different feeling watching this team. I feel confident Sanchez wont throw a pick and I have confidence the defense will make a stop. I hope im not dreaming! Lets go Jets!
-
Dirty: I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for the day Brad Smith throws a completion…
-
Time to give Danny boy a shot to see if he can help spark the running game!! Any thoughts on this!!:)
-
lets be real about the running game for a second..yes, teams are keying in on stopping it, but thomas jones just looks really slow out there..i mean, it’s obvious..he just looks like he lost a step…hopefully i’m wrong
-
I agree TJ doesn’t look quite as good as he did last year, but lets give the man a break. Nobody looks good when they are getting hit behind the line or right at the line of scrimmage. I think its a mixture of teams scheming against the run, and the face that the Jets run the ball on almost every first down. Even though our receivers and QB is arguably just as good as last years, teams aren’t going to give Sanchez, Cotch and Stuck as much respect as they gave Favre, Coles, and Cotch last year. Todays lack of a solid running game was also partially due to the fact that the Titans have the best run defense in the ENTIRE league. I do think our OL could play better but I don’t think our weak run game is really their fault. I do think they need to stop giving up so many penalties. Thats inexcusable.
-
The bottom line on the running game is that the O-Line is underachieving. I never thought we were a smash mouth type of a line but the performance in the 3 games has been awful in Hou it did’nt look bad because all the runs were late but they were stuffing us also. Last week nothing pass blocking has’nt been that bad til today. This is supposedly the stegnth of the team but its starting to look like hype!
-
The Jets need another WR badly!!! Stuckey is alright but not a legitimate number #2 (at least not for another couple of seasons)…Also, god forbid if Cotchery ever got injured then this team would have a worse WR unit than even some college teams…If this team added another WR, they could win it all….Instead of using their 2010 first round pick on a WR who has an 90% chance of being a bust and who wouldn’t be any good for a couple of seasons anyway, how about the Jets trade it for a guy like Bowe who is still very young and has proven to be a legitimate number one receiver already..This way, we have a great chance to win a Superbowl this year…At the very least, they should sign Matt Jones and give him a chance!!!
-
Give the Titans some credit. Their front 4 is tops against the run.
-
Ryan, I agree completely and the rash of negative comments here drives me nuts. I am cautiously optimistic b/c this team has its flaws but has come out of the gates 3-0 – ridiculous to be critical or complaining right now!
Knowing we are only three games in, the only glaring issue I can see is the offensive line in the running game (I don’t put this on TJ losing a step as he broke those two runs in the Houston game when given a hole). I wonder how much of the pre-season was spent gearing the boys up to protect Sanchez at all costs and if this has hurt the run blocking. Fortunately, I believe this is an area that can be improved in-season unless Faneca and Woody are truly showing signs of aging.
-
Well I hate to toot my own horn, but the jets are exactly where I thought they be, 3-0!!! Now comes there toughest opponent yet!!! The New Orleans Saints!!! Originally, I had the Jets losing this one, but now, I’m giving Gang Green a real shot 2 win this one!!! The key in my opinion is gonna be the health of Shephard, & Strickland!!! If those 2 guys have a solid week of practice, I really think we can win down there!!! Either way, I’m really thankful 4 these guys!!! And I’m truly thankful 4 Rex Ryan!!! Thank You Rex!!! Your personality, & passion for the game is a breath of fresh air, & New York welcomes you with open arms!!! I mean, how great is it 2 be free of “The Mangidiot”??? All I can say people is enjoy all of this year, it has the possibility 2 be special!!!
J-E-T-S, JETS,JETS,JETS!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I’m watching Mike’d Up rite now on NBC, & he basically just said that Bart Scott is a nobody!!!!!
WATTA FAT BAFFOON!!!!!
-
Mike Francessa that Is!!!!!
-
Francesa!!!! Sorry!!!!!
-
As annoying as it is the see constant running on first down, remember that this team basis its offense off its defense. They’re not going to do anything rash when they have to. But this is different, ut’s nit like years before when they did this an would just play their prevent d the entire game, its a chess match with position being the key. This offense isn’t built to score from the 10, sure they can have some good drives, but don’t kid yourselves, they’re going to run even if other teams know it, and since teams know it, it’s not going to be as effective. As bad as Favre was, you had to respect his arm and gunslinger mentality, teams know dirty isn’t going to do anything crazy so its easy to play for the run.
-
largebarge
i saw that too…who give a F? bart scott is the man!…he plays with a chip on his shoulder and isnt afraid to voice it…his post game presser might be the best i’ve ever seen!
-
3-0, I LOVE IT!!!
-
any jets fans going to the new orleans game nxt sunday, i will let me know if there is a certain spot where all us crazy jets fans need to meet at!!!
-
this is pretty much irrelevant but the jets do not have a 1pm game until november
-
SB preview Sunday I hope
Jets 24
Saints13 -
I really dont see a huge problem with the WR they are doing a great job there not dropping balls . I
know where not getting the respect of a deep threat , and thats killing the run .
But if we wait till FA there will be a handful of WR to pic from a few we already tried picking up already ie Brandon Marshall and Bryalon Edwards .
I say keep our picks and wait and sign the veteren next year .
-
maybe its my jets bias but who else here thinks eric smith should be up for most improved player of the year??
-
Oh and am the only one after watching the press confrence w/Scott that thought he just came in and hit the FB as hard as he can just to make a point .
It was a nice hit but I just wish it wasent so close to the endzone ,to decide not to hit the guy with the ball . Ps love this guy
-
yeah but there was enough jets behind scott that should of stopped white…anyone notice gholston not giving up on a play and tackling chris johnson 20 yds downfield maybe his half assed attitude might be turning around??
-
maybe this week they can throw a bomb to clowney and see if that works out
-
Eric Smith is having a monster year. He looks like Ed Reed out there. It is silly.

I don’t know how any Jets fan can be negative at this point. We are not only 3-0 but 3-0 with a rookie QB, the first time that has been done in the NFL in 40 years. We also have a rookie HC and a brand new defense which we aren’t even close to playing at peak yet.
Yeah, the rushing game isn’t hitting on all cylinders yet but we need to keep working it. Ryan said he wants an all-weather team for obvious reasons and I fully expect this offense to improve as the season progresses.
Personally, I’m thrilled with the progress this team is making and where we are right now.

New Orleans will be an excellent test for this Jet defense. They have a decent running game, excellent passing game, and a special teams that could break it on any kick off or punt.Saints defense is a solid unit over all but has its flaws. The Jets must find a solid running game this week to keep Brees off the field although I do feel our defense matches up well against them.Pressure will be key up front but cover skills will be just as important. If the Jets get their running game going a foresee another Jet win if not it could be a long day on the road in there house…

Green n White – I disagree. We are a running team, which is our identity. We need to have a solid running game for our rookie quarterback. We are not the kind of team to throw 40-45 times and win a ballgame. Ball control is to our advantage so that our defense isn’t tiring and our offense controls the clock and the scoring. Right now, Schotty has been an excellent play caller. Fans are too critical of him because of last season’s playcalling (EVEN THOUGH I BELIEVE HE DIDN”T FACTOR IN PLAY CALLING!!)
The Jets have been flawless so far. The ground game is a definite need right now. I would let Shonn Greene handle some of the carries to see if he would be able to help out this anemic attack. Jones looks like his age right now and Leon is a factor but might need some more touches. The ground game is critical because Sanchez is not going to be able to play football like Brady, airing it out in a shootout.
Otherwise, this team is unstoppable so far and the sky is the limit. I predicted at the beginning that we would either finish 4-12 or 12-4. Looks like the latter so far and I hope we can keep this up…!!!!!!!! Go Jets!

Scjf – he even jumped on a few piles! Let’s give him a raise.

It was nice to win a game that I didn’t think we really played well enough to win, if that makes any sense. There wasn’t the “the season hangs on the balance of every play” buzz in this game like the first two, and pretty much every part of the team showed some warts, but they still got it done. The two return fumbles are freak plays to some extent, but winning teams take advantage of what’s given to them, and we did that.
Now on to New Orleans for quite a battle, and then the soft part of the schedule.
