How can you separate the contenders from the pretenders? Don Banks tries to do just that on SI.com with a look at the NFL teams with winning records. In it he places teams into three categorites, and the Jets are in the top grouping.
New York Jets (3-0) — Nothing breeds confidence on a team more so than winning even when you don’t have your “A” game on any particular day, and that’s why the Jets’ Week 3 grind-it-out conquest of the Titans was valuable. Quality teams find a way to get the W even when they’re not at their best. A huge test looms this week with New York’s trip to New Orleans, but Rex Ryan has his Jets believing they’re destined for great things this season, so no game will be too big for them. And check out that schedule. After the Saints, New York isn’t likely to play another winning team until its much-anticipated rematch at New England in Week 11.
• Early season playoff potential: Even Eric Mangini took the Jets to the playoffs in his first season, and Rex Ryan is no Eric Mangini.

@ The Ed(itor)
That is def what was implied with that statement. He is saying that even Mangini got us to the playoffs in his first season. -
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FROM THE THREE GAMES IS THAT WE HAVEN’T GOTTEN OUTCOACHED OR OUT PREPARED. THIS IS A COACHING LEAGUE. NO OTHER TEAM IS A BETTER EXAMPLE OF THAT THAN THE JETS. I WONDER WHO WOULD WIN IN A CHESS GAME REX OR MANGINI?

With Mangini it was never a question of preparation. He was always prepared, but would never ever ever ever adjust during the course of the game. The Ryan Regime, on the other hand, is great at this. They “go with the hot hand” so to speak, and use whatever the other team is giving them.

I love when Don Banks get on board, he’s usually hating. I can’t wait for Sunday.
I would like Shonn Greene to touch the ball a few times, just to get him a little experience and see what we’ve got.

If we beat this team in NO….. we are a legit powerhouse this year.Outside of the Giants who is more dangerous in the NFC?
I am going to be in Miami for the Monday nighter so I am praying we walk into that dump 4-0 !!!!!

Two good football teams in NY. Must be another reminder to read Dan Jenkins’ classic, “Semi Tough”. [Spoiler Coming] Of course the wrong team wins in Jenkins’ novel, but his description of pro basketball will amuse anyone who is not a person of color (and some of them too).

Lageman,
Actually, Don Banks was on board before the season started. He was the only pundit to pick the Jets as a playoff team. -
AKA DREW I HOPE THE SAME THING I AM GOING TO THAT MONDAY NIGHT GAME AND I HOPE IT IS ALL JET FANS THERE . THE DOLPHINS FANS ARE FAIR WEATHER ANYWAY THEY ARE THERE IF THEY R WINNING !!!!!!! GO JETS!!!!

Actually Sean Payton also picked the Jets to be a playoff team this summer. He’s friends with Rex Ryan and has great respect for him. This is going to be a great great game. I think both teams are going to play extremely hard and both will be well prepared. although it will be close, hard fought contest, I think one team will take a lead by the 3rd quarter and never look back. Both teams have the ability to keep it close, but I think it’s going to be all about who adjusts quicker and more effectively. If the Jet’s running game isn’t able to go–Jets are in big trouble. The Saints D is very good at creating turnovers this year. So far both of these teams have only played one great pass defense–NE and PHI. I’d be a little nervous about Sanchez facing a defense tied for most INT. He’s been sacked 5 times in three games and has fumbled 4 times. If the Saints O line can get past some injuries and protect Brees and open some holes for their RBs then the Saints are going be very tough.
Mark Sanchez mistakes vs Saints O-Line…
I’m taking the Saints, but goddam this is going to be a great game. Probably will come down to turnovers and special teams.

Rex Ryan is no Mangini??? What does that mean??Rex Ryan is much better or a huge improvement over Mangini! That is what he should have said.
