I think the jets should dump V.Gholston just like they did with J.Vilma, cut him do whatever is necesary, take the cap hit…..JUST GET HIM OUT!
-
Ok Bent, so what year can we dump this bum? And why do i feel like hes gonna be here for a long time ala BThomas…
-
Hey Bent GREAT job on your work analysing Gholston’s plays on Sunday.
-
Gholston is a work in progress.
I think we can all agree that Rex Ryan is a refreshing face of this organization — a no nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is guy who rarely does anything that will not benefit his team.
So with that said, I’m not sure why anyone would believe that Eric Mangini’s decision to bury Gholston was the right one and that Rex Ryan is making a mistake in getting him on the field and trying to get the star out of him.
I highly doubt Rex is mistaken on this read, and I am certain he is not just doing this for face value.
-
Yes. The only argument against this is that Ryan cannot emulate game situations in practice (some players are better gameday and stink in practice), so he is giving him four games and all the time to prove himself.
So certainly a better approach than Mangini took, but the results may prove to be the same.
And you’re right, he will see less time vs the Saints and then Pace is back.

One last thing: it is interesting that there are nine links posted here in today’s Daily Links, and none of them are about Gholston, yet because Vilma was mentioned, 9 of 10 comments are Gholston-related.
Talk about a lightning rod for discussion.

VG is owed $21 million in guaranteed money. it would make absolutely no sense to cut him, when he is only 23 and showing signs of improvement. people screaming “cut him” do not understand the financial aspect (salary cap) of football
is he living up to his contract? hell no. but he is improving. there are a number of different ways his career could turn out. he could continue to develop at OLB. he could add weight and play DE. again, he is only 23 and it was well known (before the draft) that he would be a project. lets settle down and see what happens…

I liked Vilma but he could say for 10 years that he didnt have a problem with the 3-4 and he would still be lying.
D Harris made more plays in his first start than Vilma did in 1.5 years in that system. It dosent make Vilma a bad player juts not a great fit for the 3-4…..Yes i know Mangini was an idiot but Vilma was getting paid a lot of money and wasnt making plays. D Harris was a HUGE upgrade and we got picks from NO that we used wisely.
We actually should have traded him and D Rob in 2006. When they had real value.
