New Orleans Columnist Pulls A Buzz Bissinger
In an attempt to rile up Saints fans and find an angle on a column for a game that needs no angle, Times-Picayune columnist Chris Rose has taken offense with everything New York.
There’s a lot to break down here, so I’ll take it one by one.
First, the “prognosticators”.
You could see it coming a mile away: Now that the Saints are 3-0, the cocksure prognosticators, pundits and fanboys of the New York sports scene have come to the conclusion that the Bless You Boys are an as-yet unproven entity this NFL season and that’s because our schedule thus far has been “soft” and we have not faced any real competition (read: the brawny, battle-ready teams from New York City).
At the time I’m writing this, I’ve yet to see any score predictions from NYJ beat writers, but every beat writer I’ve talked to is fairly certain that this is going to be the toughest challenge the undefeated Jets have faced this year. All I’ve read and heard all week was how difficult the Saints are to defend with their improved running game and how their defense is much improved. In fact, if you search the Interweb, you’ll be hard up to find ANYONE picking the Jets. But I guess media members of teams that everyone, including Vegas, can still play the no-respect card when going against the “big bad NY media.”
Next, the “bloggers”.
I mean, the Jets go 3-0 and suddenly they’re the team to beat in the NFL this season? “We have won more playoff games in a single season than in your entire team’s history, ” a blogger named Eddie DiGio posted on thejetsblog.com this week.
…
“Try not to choke on your crawfish and enjoy the beatdown, ” a blogger named AKA Drew posted on that same Jets fan site. I ask you: How does one respond to such a crass entreaty?
Thanks Chris, for giving me a good laugh. This is sloppy journalism at its best — the Buzz Bissinger impersonation of all Buzz impersonations. Both Eddie and Drew are fans, commenters on TheJetsBlog — wonderfully appreciated and intelligent fans and commenters — not bloggers. As a writer for a team that has spent many a year in the dumps, you would think one would appreciate where fans of a downtrodden franchise such as the Jets is coming from. Long lumped in the worst of the worst, Jets fans are simply happy to have a winner to root for. God forbid they be confident in your team. I’m sure Saints fans expect to lose.
Uh oh, Rose is after the Jets writers now!
And, yet, here’s what the cynical scribe Rich Cimini wrote for the New York Daily News this week: “Drew Brees, Jonathan Vilma and Marques Colston all declined requests to be the opposing player on tomorrow’s conference call with the New York media. Dissed by three players; that has to be unprecedented. What are they afraid of?”
I would submit, Mr. Cimini, that fear is not the motivating factor here — but sanity. The meat-grinding sports news industry in New York City is such that the only meaningful and lingering effects from participating in the Gotham City Circus is a migraine.
How dare a writer call out a team’s three best players for refusing to speak to the team’s media on MEDIA DAY. In a week when the entire nation is farklempt over Terrell Owens not wanting to talk to the media, you would think players refusing to talk would be big news. Brees, Vilma and Colston have every right to do this, but then the writers have every right to remark that they refused the writers’ request. And do you know why? Because when Jets fans ask Cimini and Rod Boone and Manish Mehta why they don’t have quote from Brees, Vilma and Colston about the upcoming game, they’ll have to explain that they refused to talk to them. If Mark Sanchez, Kerry Rhodes and Barty Scott refused to talk to the New Orleans media, Mr. Rose would be screaming from the top of his high horse about how egotistical and selfish they are. But alas, things are different from way up there, I guess.
Finally, the New Jersey jokes!
Actually, it’s painful to watch: The Jets and the Giants’ fan bases are so desperate to cling to some dregs of their former identities as working-class teams and lunch-bucket Joes, slogging through the muddy gridiron of America’s greatest city. But, in fact, here’s the saddest thing you’ve ever heard: New York City actually has no NFL football teams.
Zero, zilch, zed, nada, rien, big fat goose egg.
Zippity-do.
The Giants and the Jets both relocated to New Jersey back when the wishbone offense was still held in high regard, but they both kept their New York City labels as some grasping and desperate means to keep from acknowledging that, in fact, they play in the . . . suburbs.
Really? This is what you’re going to stoop to? Jokes about the Jets playing in New Jersey? There must be better material than that (Rose also spent 3 paragraphs mocking the “Jets” nickname). While you’re reusing years-old material, why not dig up Blair Thomas comments and ask the Jets when the last time they won a Super Bowl was? Better yet, give us those 1-15 Rich Kotite remarks or the Bill Belichick left you for the Pats jokes!
The best part of the column is that not once does Mr. Rose talk abotu the Jets’ defense against Drew Brees or Bart Scott and Co. against Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush. There’s no mention of Darren Sharper using his experience and All-Pro skills to fool rookie QB Mark Sanchez. There’s not even a talk of how the Jets’ run game must find itself in order to win this game. In fact, there’s nary a single football reference in the entire article.
To be honest, I’m kind of sad he didn’t finish off the column a “same old Jets” reference — but I guess he’s above that.
And for the icing on the proverbial cake…
And tell ‘em this: After we hijack the Jets …
What was that about crass entreaties earlier? You stay classy, Chris Rose.

Chris Rose just got [owned]. I read that article fully and it is the most moronic and unfunny thing i have ever seen
-
I’m fine with his comments except the last one……..
“And tell ‘em this: After we hijack the Jets …”
Is this a 9/11 reference? What an A## Hole if it is!!
I hope not, but what a stupid way to put a spin on the Jets team name. Come on dude are you that much of a dumb-ass!!
This area is still extremely sensitive over the tragic events of 9/11, and regardless of the intent to make this game bigger then what it is this was stupid to publish. This jerk should retract his statements, eat crow, and be made to look like a fool to the rest of the media across this country!
-
Chris Rose?
Meh.
Who’s he, really?
Anybody care?
The irony, of course, (apart from him sounding like he got ahold of some bad bagels and lox and nerdily dissing our fair city) is that his complaints are exactly what the “pundits” have been saying about the Jets for the past 3 weeks.Nice job taking this douche bag down a notch, Corey.
-
Jourmalism Gone Wild.
Score prognosticators from NYJ predict the Bloom is Off the Rose. Hang ‘em, Chris! You showed your worthless wares… No beads necessary!
Jets Fans!
-
Damn this is harsh. This kind of thing screams classic Douche Bag.I would of took a 1-point win but after reading this i want to blow them out by 30..Somebody please show Rex Ryan this.So he can have this team motivated to play sunday
-
that was absolutely barftastic
-
I don’t even believe it. This guy is such a joke. But hey, I guess this is why this guy is writing in New Orleans, right?
-
I had quite a few friends and family that were effected by both tragedies. That guy is wrong … THE BETTER TEAM? Lets take a look at the last 3 weeks. NO played Det, Mcnabb less Philly and Buffalo without lynch. Brees looked like a short QB last week for 3 Quarters with Buff sending 4. Now with the Green Machine sending at any time 6,7, or 8 and 1.8 seconds to release the loaf of bread shorty is gonna look real tasty. what the hell is that on his face? Dharris cleat mark.
-
And thank you Corey for ripping this guy to shreds. I am boggled that his boss let this article get published.
-
Who is this guy? What a cornball.
-
In case you were wondering why in the world someone would need to read their column on a video:
-
I’m sorry but this guy does not deserve to be writing and furthermore I hope he never references TJB again (Note: After reading this comment he no doubt will anyway).
-
This is hilarious! It is clear that these N.O. Saints fans have a major inferiority complex. The Saints have traditional been a sorry franchise, just like the Jets, but even worse. At least the Jets have Namath, the Saints only have Archie Manning, whose greatest NFL achievement is creating two Super Bowl winning quarterbacks for other teams.
-
How does this guy not get fired for making a 9/11 joke? We are random nobodies who make comments. He gets PAID to be PROFESSIONAL.
-
Sigh. Writers like this douche have no shame, souls or points. They’re the journalism equivalent of a guy walking down the street in a “what the f— are you lookin at” T-shirt. No skills, no analysis, just vague, recycled vitriol in an attempt to get attention and avoid having to do real work.
-
You Jets fans have absolutely no sense of humor – A sure sign of lacking intelligence. How the hell to you get a 9-11 reference out of what he said? That’s just plain ridiculous. The guy is just having fun. Take a collective chill pill and let your overrated team prove it on Sunday. Your depression on Monday after the shellacking you will receive will have the added bonus of making you forget about his harmless article.
-
if he has a media pass, it should be revoked. not even the raiders (or the browns) deserve a beatwriter who is this awful at his job.
-
Oh I don’t know. Hijacking a Jet? New York? Hmmmm.
Where should we be laughing? At the part where he rips on our fans? The part where he rips on our team? Or the part where he makes an unfunny comment about not being in NY, and in New Jersey?
He gets paid to do this? Wow. I’m having I like in New York where we have real writers and not crap like this guy.
-
What a massive inferiority complex. Pretty sad.
At least some of the people making comments have some class.
-
NOblogger,
there are some things you don’t do, and making comments about hijacking jets is sure as hell one of the things you don’t do. it’s a shame that you have to stoop down to ad hominem attacks. if you have some intelligible football analysis, i’d be happy to hear it. if not, get a life.
-
And how in the world do you have a “higher then thou” attitude? You are the Saints. You haven’t even played in a Super Bowl.
-
jetfaninla.
I’m all analyzed out – all the X’s and O’x have been analyzed and talked to death. It now comes down to the players on the field, execution etc….
All I’m saying is that you guys are over-reacting – way over-reacting. Seems like you Jets fans are searching to be insulted. By the way, I have a life – a pretty good one. Thanks for your sincere concern though! -
nothing more annoying than some douche who thinks he’s being funny…i could care less if someone disses the jets, but shoot, that rant was soooooo unfunny i couldnt even watch it all…it was just incredibly lame
what an annoying turd
-
Go to a Saints blog and have a laugh with your idiot Saints fans NObloger.Laugh it up now because on Monday you will be crying
-
So if all the X’s and O’s have been analyzed, why is a New Orleans writer go out and write and article ripping into New York. What did we do? Our fans had confidence? We think we will win? Everyone in New York has talked about how tough this matchup is for us, and how its a true test. Every analyst has stating they think you will win. So why in the world does a professional write an attack piece on New York, finished off by a hijacking a Jet quote.
Would it offend you if I said, “Just wait for the Jets to come to New Orleans. We are going to flood the Superdome. Wait, why is that bad?”
It shows absolutely no class.
-
y’all are gettin’ a little to torqued over nothing . true, that writer is an idiot but i truly don’ t think that was 911 comment. if you will remember that was not an attack against ny but an attack against all of us americans. try to chill, enjoy the game tommorow. and don’t let 1 idiot stir up a hate fest . if you do then he won and he’s not gonna beat me
-
Hiramsaint,
Is this guy liked in New Orleans? I obviously know nothing about how he is viewed in the Big Easy. Do tell please.
-
i’ve not lived there for many years now but are people like him liked anywhere? probably not. i think he needs some release if ya know what i mean
-
Lets the creativity begin!!!
It should be a lot of fun to see what the GOLDEN BOY does. I mean he has been successful to only a couple of targets (keller, washington sometimes, and Cotchery) come on man let me see some chemistry develop. One of your receivers is complaining to the media like Keyshawn or Terrell Owens and you just go along with it. Man up!!
-
To answer your question – No, it wouldn’t offend me at all, because I’m not hyper-sensitive. You can say “flood the Dome” all you want. I know that it doesn’t mean anything. What are you – 12 years old! This guy – Chris Rose – he’s not a beat writer for the Saints – he’s a joker – a “color” guy. He does “off the beaten path” type stuff – little “Shticks” or whatever – he’s not mainstream media. He never talks football – he’s always about the culture of it – the fan side of things. He doesn’t do X’s and O’x. There are like 10 other writers who talk F-ball all day. He’s not one of them.
You can say his little article wasn’t funny – that’s legitimate – it may even be true. That’s fine, but it was harmless, and making more out of it than it really is – that’s just kind of silly. Is there any Jets fan on this blog with a little more balance, a little more common sense?
I live down in the deep south, about a 30 minute ride outside of New Orleans. I”m highly educated myself (at least that’s what I’ve been told), but down here we have a sizeable underprivileged class – people with little education, not much skills- really sad cases. Certain populations down here barely have an 8th grade education. It gets passed onto their kids. These are mostly blue collar families. Some may consider them real simpletons – some may even call them “white trash” and other derogatory terms. They are of all races. It’s sad really, but these are usually good people. You know – law abiding, simple, but good people. Most of them are Saints fans – It’s really the only game in town. Seeing the Saints win helps out with their own life frustrations. Hearing a little bluster is fun – we all know its just talk – its all good fun for god’s sake. He caters to that “crowd”, and even they know its all harmless fun (the simpletons), so you would think that you “sophisticated Northerers” would take things in proportion – take it for what it is. Stop being such Winnies! It’s all just to get the juices flowing a little. I mean – do you really want to hear more about avg. yards per rush, who will blitz, from where and how often, for the 20th time, about 24 hours before the game? -
Chris Rose got his degree in journalism from the Hellen Keller School for the Arts
-
>>Certain populations down here barely have an 8th grade education. It gets passed onto their kids. These are mostly blue collar families. Some may consider them real simpletons – some may even call them “white trash” and other derogatory terms.
I’m sure Rose would. He’s funny that way.
Seriously, your defense of hijacking jokes made about NYers is that you’re a grown up sophisticate? You might want to rethink your credentials. Here’s a tip, many NYers lost people during 9/11. It’s not funny.
And if your defense about Rose is that he has to dumb down his articles to appeal to the ignorant Saints fans then maybe you shouldn’t be so surprised we don’t find it funny. You also might want to question why you do, Mr. Sophistication.
-
I didn’t say I was sophisticated – I said you guys were supposed to be. Maybe you have a reading comprehension problem, or maybe you’re a just a moron – I can’t tell from here (leaning towards moron). What hijcaking joke? This was an innocent play on words – I’m sure he didn’t mean anything by it -as some one said here – this wasn’t your personal trategy. Try to be a little bit more grown up about it.
So now that we got all that silliness straightened out, please let me get really childish and silly, and tell me, guys:
WHO DAT SAY DEY GONNA BEAT DEM SAINTS, WHO DAT, WHO DAT?
Signing off for now – I’ll be back on Monday to gloat about the W, or to take my hat off to the Jets in the unlikely event that the Saints should choke and lose (they’ve been known to do that – so it’s not totally out of the question, but I doubt it this time). -
is this a football blog or a 3rd grade name calling contest?
-
You’ve been told that you’re highly educated?
-
“God in heaven, can you stand it? The Knickerbockers?
Go, Pants, Go! Win, Trousers, Win!”
“Rose- a “knickerbocker” is a term for a resident of NY, you moron. Kind of like how a “trout” is someone from NO.” -Rosemoron
-
Jets fans: you played right into Rose’s hand. Thought you all were more astute than this.
Rose is a columnist in the “Living” Section of the local paper, not a sports writer. He is often tongue in cheek and that’s what this was. Did you miss the comment of how at least the Saints lose in “interesting ways”?
Rose was our scribe post-Katrina. He witnessed a lot of really awful stuff and wrote diligently about it. His experiences lead to depression and the breakup of his marriage. His openness was heart wrenching. So is he “loved” here? Probably, because he spoke for us by telling his story. Everyone, I mean everyone, has a Katrina story. So do the Saints – an amazing one. The Saints 2006 season had a huge emotional impact on the recovery of the city.
So Rose makes fun of the media and the NYC sports bravado. It’s a joke. Not serious. Puts a smile on the faces of Saints fans. That’s all.
-
Its safe to say that guys that go on their team blogs have either way too much time, are extreme fans of their team, or are interested in finding out specific information about their own team. its also safe to assume that guys that go on the opposing team’s blogs are just complete losers who have an inordinate amount of time to waste. To any Saint fan that has taken the time and made the effort to come write smack on a purely jets related blog…congratulations…you’re a loser. Dont come back on sunday night after we beat you… not that you will anyway after a loss
-
Message To New Orleans Fans:
Tell Drew to stock up on Excedrin Extra Strength. It is going to be a long and painful game. The last three QB’s we faced had to go straight to the drug store. Up until now, Drew hasn’t seen the heat. It’s coming soon, to a dome near you. Stop your trash talking. The pain we inflict for playing us will be far less than the pain we inflict if you keep up your talking. Don’t mess with Big Jenks.
-
trout? never heard that before fred
-
NJets: You prove Mr. Rose’s point.
-
the best is the statement that they were in more playoff games in one season then in our whole history! what an a$$
-
to harvlis………….oooooooh ……….now we’re scared. guess we ought to not even show up now. i mean , if YOU said it then it has to be so
-
John I: The “they” were the Jets. Guess you missed that one.
-
y’all need to get over this rose guy . is he really worth it?
-
When has the saints moved into the afc that makes this such a huge game?!? This guy is scum and he really need to go back to school and learn how to write. Why would and NFC team take so many shots at an afc team. Even with a L vs the saints we will still be 3-0 vs the afc suck on them apples
-
It’s hard for me to dis the Saints-I’m a fan of Brees(undersized QB does good like our kid), Vilma & Colston(Hofstra kid should be a JET). BUT GREAT TEAMS WIN THESE GAMES & NEVER BACK DOWN TO ANY TEAM. WE CAME TO NO TO WIN THIS GAME & SLAP DEM SAINTS & PROVE WHO WE ARE.
-
Mannyfresh: noun-verb agreement. You may need to accompany Rose when he goes back to school…
-
binnola…
You continue to prove mine… Mr. Rose? Let me tell you something about CHRIS…Chris is a bitter 40-50 year old man that just read his own article to a video camera (which he likely set up to begin with) and looked like an amateur, wanna be actor that applied to Tisch at NYU but never got in. He takes shots at the New York Media yet he wishes he had half of the success of most New York media types. Then, to take unprovoked shots at thejetsblog? He, like you… is a loser… and this has nothing to do with they fact that hes from New Orleans or that hes a fan of the Saints… all sports a aside… he is an unprofessional loser.
-
o.k my bad but just for heck’s sake here are the numbers
jets- 12 playoff appearences
aints- 6 playoff appearences -
>>Most of the saints to post here this week have been reasonable to be fair.
Not including the ones the spam filter blocked.
-
y’all must just be in love with rose. leave the idiot alone. past plyoff appearences don’t mean squat this year john l
-
binnola,
Sorry for typing on an iPhone.. I may not be as skilled as you when it comes to texting in my input…. Maybe you can take time out of ur busy cyber life and teach me a thing or two homer
-
are people really getting bent out of shape over the “hijack the jets” comment? really? yikes, settle down people.
this is no different than saying:
slay the giants
shootout with the cowboys
power-down the chargers
pillage the raiders
lock horns with the ramsetc.
-
John I: takes a real man to admit to being wrong. Kudos. As to your comment, we are well aware of the Saints historical shortcomings. Like the ugly kid, as the parents we still go to love them.
NJets: I’m going out to have a drink and ponder your last comment. Cheers!
-
This guy just sounds like a straight up d***chebag
-
Is it a cyber drink? Cheers…go away
-
>>Why I hold myself to a higher standard than a professional journalist I have no idea.
Integrity doesn’t come with a price tag as Mr. Rose so aptly demonstrates.
-
Bent… you’re too nice man
Its ok though, we will say the things you can’t. Im pretty sure that idiot wont be quoting any of our responses to his article / Tisch application supplement.
-
i will say one thing about the saints fans visiting our site this week: you guys are actually getting me more pumped up for this game than new england and the titans combined!!!!!!!!!
only 21 short hours to go gentelmen!!!!!!!!
J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS BRING IT ON!!!!!!!
-
The Saints are a 7 seven point favorite, every ESPN “expert” picked them, and I have yet to read one NY writer picking the JETS to win. Most Saint fans who have been on here this week have been very cordial and objective. Amazing that a so-called “writer” has dragged himself down to the level of bozos Bent deletes from this BLOG.
-
LETS PUNCH THEM IN THE MOUTH HARD AND EARLY!!!
GOT JETS!!!! -
Hiram,
Believe it or not — The PAIN is coming.
-
Dont’ worry about it all… The guy’s allowed to write about our NY shtick and hate it if he wants. We’re a bunch of loud mouths in NY. And Jet fans are the best at being loud mouths. We’re over confident even when we’re terrible. And I LOVE it! And I love that some guy from NO hates it. It’s all cool…. Let’s keep talkin’ it up. Rex loves it to! Go Jets!
-
sorry harvlis, i’m just not seein’ it. maybe tommorow
-
i think the saint fans being on here has been great. this is what football is all about. i appreciate the passion, and the trash talking. albeit in a respectful manner. let’s have a great time tomorrow, and of coarse have the jets win baby!!! but i would like the saint fans to know that they are going to face one hell of a team tomorrow.
-
Great job Corey.
I, the enternal pessimist, just prognosticated to my fellow Jets fans in the bar (beer muscles on), that we are going to crush the Saints.
Every “pro” progosticate is picking NO, thats all you need to know.
J-E-T-S 32, Aints 16.
-
why all of sudden the saints are 3-0 and are acting like they won the superbowl the last 3 years expecting respect from everywhere the saints have just as a sorry past as us so stop crying it takes time for the media give you any credit we know all about it the media is waiting for our meltdown they remind us everytime they can
-
Not sure what “:progsicate” means, but think it means kick ass.
The beers be typing.
-
scott:
It would have been different if this guy stated any of the following….– Keeping the Jets grounded
– Watch how the Saints keep the Jets from leaving the tarmak
– Lock down the hanger -
give a round of applaud for akadrew does that mean he’s famous now??
-
i must say for an out of conference team the saints fans are real annoying almost miami like…good job
-
rusty
ditto…the “who dat!” and “geaux saints” add to the annoyance
i dont mind the trash talk from the saints fans..it’s when they say that the jets have zero chance against the saints that bothers me…i mean, aside for qb and receivers the jets probably have more talent everywhere else
-
Can somebody please explain to me how the Jets can be overrated if almost everyone is picking them to lose? Seems the only team in this game that can possibly be overrated is the saints. hmmmm….
I have seen the media overrate teams in all sports, but the funny thing is, those teams are almost always small market teams. I love how the media of such teams pretend their team is infallible and then project this same mindset onto their rivals media as a last ditch effort at denial.
-
Ok, I had my first drink and even though I didn’t think I’d come back to your blog, I have to say this. If you guys (gals) would read the New Orleans paper sports page and not just Rose’s column, you would see that the Saints sportswriters and the fans have a whole lot of respect for your Jets. We’re nervous just like you all are. That said, let’s have a good time, enjoy the game, and have an exciting time tomorrow.
Cheers, again.
-
Just got caught up on TJB….. I really had much better lines than the crcwfish one during the week….lol
I do feel a little special that he choce mine though….they were many to choose form during this “strange” trash talking week
This clown is clearly trying to rally the taint fans together.
Thanks for sticking up for me Bent… most of my trash talk was in good taste….lol
-
drew
too bad he didnt use one of your comments using the word taints -
OH WHEN THE SAINTS…….FALL ON THERE A$$….BECAUSE THEY CAN’T AFFORD REAL GRASS…DO DO DO DO….EL MATADOR WILL SHOW THEM WHO’S TOP CLASS …AND GEAUX SAINTS WILL WIND UP IN LAST. DA DA DA DA sing with me now!
as HORRIBLE and corny that song is that i just created i just had to do it.
-
I lived in N.O. for 5 yrs and in NY for 10… N.O is the dumbest collection of a city I have ever encountered, hands down. Maybe the posters in this blog are not amongst them, but as a whole, the city is pretty stupid, and I think they know that.
-
with everybody playin the dozens against each other it makes me think that you know nothing about football in ny. i could go to a girlscout meeting and get more intelligent conversation than you have to offer
-
i also wonder who you’re gonna turn on first mon. morning , sanchez or ryan. seems like y’all love to blame someone for anything.
-
hiramsaint
you being a woman means you know less about football than virtually everyone in here! ZING!
-
Haven’t the Saints pretty much sucked like us over the past couple of decades?
I’m tired of seeing the same teams have success year after year while we and several others usually suck.
I’m glad the Saint are doing well. I want to beat them but this is supposed to be fun.
Charlie Rose needs balance in his life. Try girls Charlie. Take off your Saint underoos.
-
rusty sanchez….
I was thinking the same thing…..lol
Guys…lets leave hiramsaint alone…I mean she has been beaten up pretty good this week and has come back for more everyday. I assume she will vanish if her favored taints get wrecked on Sunday.
Plus she is probably still moist from her LSU win. Lets let her get some rest and pray her team pulls it out tomorrow……cause if the Jets win… I am going to hammer her…..
-
This is tiresome.
-
wow leon, that really hurt being that it came from you ,the knower of all things football. i hope you know how to dry your eyes tommorow evening.ZANG
-
drew you gotta have a hammer first.. ZONG
-
Goodnight Jet fans….. I assume this will be the last we hear from the fans from Nawlins for a while.
Its been a fun week even if some tool from NO thinks we are idiots.
Jets in a big win and I get to fly to Miami to see the Jets fillet the Dolphins on Monday night….
-
goodnight hiramsaint…..
You have been fun…..even if you still keep trying to one up me……silly girl
-
ive been getting some last minute jitters about tommorow i think the jets are gonna win tomorrow and not the saints sorry for bothering you guys cause you all are so damm cool !!!
-
good night…i’ll leave you with this ….deep down you know your gonna loose tommorow which would explain your extreme comments toward us. understandable. you have a very good team, just not on the saints level yet as will be proved tommorow. if by some chance you make it to the sb in jan. we’ll be there to put a cajun smakdown on you again. have a great night and TRY to enjoy the game tommorow… hey, maybe the giants will win so it won’t be a total loss
-
nice try poser!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Hiram,
Rose ripped up for claiming that we said we are the best. You just put your Saints at the Super Bowl at 3-0. Does that mean Rose gets to write a stupid article about you?
-
bent
i was gonna root for the saints when they played the giants but after this week i dont think i can ever root for the saints ever -
if he wants! actually i think rose is an idiot. i just believe in my team just as you do. i’ve been a fan when we wore paper bags back in the old days . for the most part i’ve been cordial with you guys but half the time all you do is name call which leads me to believe that you don’ t know a whole lot about the game. you can nit-pick about who said what all night , i’ve got a party to get back to. again , have a nice evening
-
Sanchez plays lights out and then Jets win……later!!
-
Look, the whole thing that bothers me is I actually really liked the Saints. Like they were my NFC team. I love Brees, love Colston, love PT and love Vilma.
That’s what makes this so frustrating.
And yes, I will now be rooting for the Giants, not the Saints.
-
Come here and say it to my face Rose. I’m not afraid to hit men with glasses.
BTW – Cimini better F’n back us up on this one.

I read an earlier post from Jetsfan4life, commenting about a line that a Mr Rose wrote in a NO column. Mr Rose made a comment that the Saints will hijack the Jets. Then, Jetsfan4life says this may be possible alusion to the terrible events of 9/11. I dont think thats what Mr Rose meant at all. However, I can’t tell you the number of times I have read in this “blog” comments from jets fans making Katrina remarks. Yet, somehow, those are okay, aren’t they?. How hypocritical of you NYers. Have any of you snooty people ever been to NO? It’s a great city. Why do you all think that the world revolves around your town? Guess what…it doesn’t. I’ve been to NY a few times, and have many friends from the city, and it’s obvious to me that they do not hang around with the same type of class-less fans that most of you jets bloggers are. Saints win 34 – 13.
TJB – There have been no Katrina remarks made by jets fans published on this blog. If there were they would have been deleted…but there haven’t been. I guess our readers are not as classless as you think.

I’m a Saints fan, but why do you guys even care what this guy says?
Personally, I think that the Saints sometimes don’t get the respect they deserve (not this season, though; they’re pretty much all over us), but that’s more a function of national sports writers in seasons past going out on a limb to rank the Saints and then getting badly burned and embarrassed by the team down the stretch.
But seriously, I don’t necessarily dislike Chris Rose (although this column of his seems to be pure gimmickry), but why would Jets fans give a rat’s *ss what he has to say? About MEDIA issues no less?
-
FWIW, the Jets are a great team and it wouldn’t surprise me to see them matching up with Indy or the Ravens in the championship. And NO ONE with any brains or of any consequence is taking them lightly on the Saints side.
I DO expect my Saints to win, but I don’t expect to do it by 20 points this time, I can tell you that. And if you guys happen to take it, it won’t be any fluke.
So anyway, forget Chris Rose, enjoy the game, and root for Brees in 2 weeks against Eli.
-
Hiram,
Good morning. Are you ready for the PAIN!

-
Hiramsaint
What about the LSU game today? That was awesome!
-
I have 5 beers…I better get more just to be safe.
I’m a Saints fan and I think it will be close.
-
Here’s a bit of fun trivia.
I sacked Peyton Manning twice in high school.
-
where did you play ball matk? he went to newman didn’t he
-
yes the LSU game was great, boring 1st 3 qtrs but the last 5 min was great. i caught a lot of grief this afternoon wearing purple and gold but it’s always worth it
-
Chris Rose is one of many incompetent unfunny wife beating drunks that ” writes” for the New Orleans Times Picayune……
No one in New Orleans thinks he is funny or pays attention to a word he says……he has pictures of his editor with farm animals, at least that is why the locals think he still has a job……..
On its worst day, New Jersey is what New Orleans wishes it could be……Bagdad on the Mississippi……the only thing that is worse that New Orleans is a Yankees fan! :)
-
Today was my daughter’s birthday party so I missed all but the final 5 minutes of the game. So I caught all of the good parts. What a great day to wear purple and gold in GA!
I played for Archbishop Hannan in Meraux. Katrina destroyed it and the archdiocese decided not to rebuild. Yes, Manning played for the Newman Greenies.
-
i’m sure your from n.o. art. what a joke if you are
-
unfortunately, I live here now, been trying to leave for quite awhile….
Chris Rose, like most of the so called ruling class of this hell hole, are total and complete tools.
And another thing, the food here is horribly over rated…..give me a chili dog from the Hot Grille any day over one of these stupid Po Boys…….
-
New Orleans is a beautiful city with generous, friendly and good people. What a hateful thing to say. Was your character developed in New Jersey? I’m sure you’re making them proud.
-
saying chili dogs are better than po boys and that Chris Rose is a two bit hack are terrible things to say?
Oh well……New Orleans may have been all the things your saying 40 years ago…..it is one step above Afganistan now…..if your coming for the game, all i can say is serpentine Shel, serpentine……….
-
poor poor art . i’m sure when you do leave nobody will miss you. the yanks probably don’t want you either………..try france, you’ll fit in thre quite nicely
-
mark , i’m sure art lives in n.y. or near it , he’ just got a bad case of city envy
-
I think you need to go back and read your last couple of posts on the subject. I’m not worried about your opinion of writers or sandwiches.
Clearly your cup is half empty friend. There are so many unique and special places in New Orleans. Complaining is easy; seeing the good things in life is the challenge.
Here’s a good thing: Tomorrow’s football game.
Geaux Saints!!!
-
I’m going to bed.
See you later hiramsaint.

Saints Fan here:
I listened to this Chris Rose yesterday. Frankly, I thought the guy is an idiot. As the response stated above, he never mentioned one football note that is going to prove valuable for the game. Trashing another team is simply “trashy” and his comments portrayed him as trash.
This game is going to be a true test to both teams and let the best team (on this Sunday) win!
-
Saints fans have been great on here all week – we should not let a tool like Rose reduce our banter to trash talking nonsense. It will be great to see Vilma, albeit in an opponents uni – I still love that guy
-
just stopped home for a second (HAD to get on TJB) and read the first paragraph of this story.(will read the rest tomorrow) ALL I wanted to say is that I was just telling my buddy at work that the whole WORLD is picking the AINTS right now!
But it really doesnt matter because EVERYONE who is picking against the JETS have probably picked against them THREE times so far…..AND??? (more later,I gotta go out and get and DRUNK!) J-E-T-S JETS! JETS!! JETS!!!
-
“New Orleans is a beautiful city with generous, friendly and good people. What a hateful thing to say. Was your character developed in New Jersey?”
Do you realize the irony in your comment? You defended a hateful blanket statement about 800K people by making a blanket hateful comment about 9 million people.
-
I dont get the Jets and Giants play in NJ thing. Who cares? The Redskins play in Maryland!
-
There are five home teams playing this week giving a touchdown or more. I think if any of them actually lose the game, it’s a choke job.
The other four teams are off to horrible starts. The Jets are 3-0 and getting a TD too, meaning the Saints are expected to be a top team in the NFL.
That said, Saints fans are doing a lot of trash talking for a game that everyone expects them to win.
-
Greg
Really? What did I say?
-
Sometimes I wonder why I even post here.

I have to say, when I saw there 140 responses to this, I never thought I would read them all but I did.
Bent, you run a great blog here. Boone’s and your are the only ones I read, keep up the good work.
To all of the Saints fans I am speaking as someone who lost family in the 9/11 tragedy.
I truly believe Rose did not intend for the comment to come out as a 9/11 slap, but as a journalist (if he is one, from comments here it appears that may be giving one too much credit) he should think these sort of things through, so should his editor. It was irresponsible of him to say such things since it can be construed in a manner that is not desired by him.
Thanks to all the posters for a great read on a Sunday morning and looking forward to a great game.
Not going to make a prediction, I think this is one of those situations where the irresistible force meets the immovable object. It’s going to be fun. -
“New Orleans is a beautiful city with generous, friendly and good people. What a hateful thing to say. Was your character developed in New Jersey?”
Read it again and again until you recognize the irony of your comment — feel free to get help from someone else.

Stopped reading Boone’s blog when they “enhanced” the site, which make it completely unreadable with blue type on a black background and required registration (allegedly to allow you full access to the “ehancements”). Great work techies. Why do these people insist on fixing what is not broken? The entire Newsday sight is a debacle.
Went back and took a look today and they have at least reverted back to black type on white background, now if they get rid of the registration requirement they will get the hundred or so commenters back, they are averaging under three comments per blog, and Boone seems to have lost interest since his posts are essentially what is in the print edition (he was no Boland anyway).
I will stay here, thank you.
-
greg, go back to sleep, your not awake yet
-
All these Saints & Jets fans talking smack. 2 teams at the bottom of the NFL respect pile generally but finally getting some due so far.
Great blog!
-
amen bro.
-
hank gola of the daily news got us losing 31-20…i think last week was the only game he had us winning
-
hey jets fans, you’re missing out on the inside joke. chris rose is actually a very good post-katrina columnist but he’s NOT a sports columnist. in fact, i don’t think i’ve ever seen him on the Times-Pic sports page. he’s more of a local jester, man-about-town, prankster, goofball. and if you watch his little video on nolalive it actually labels him as a “sports agitator”. and lastly, the guy is from the northeast and he knows that his words will rile you guys up. i’m guessing that every defensive post on this site brings a smile to his smug face. so just relax jets fans and stop looking for things to work yourself up into a froth about.

Making my Chicken & Sausage Jambalaya for the game today…I don’t think the Saints have ever lost when I cooked this…Sorry Jets fans.
-
can’t wait till this one’s in the books to send those waterboy clones back to the swamp on their lawn mowers for some grilled snake knees. I’m a fuh-fuh-fuh football playahhh
-
who ya gonna call names when ya lose ? ryan?, sanchez?………. it’s gotta be somebody ’cause thats all y’all can seem to do!
-
when the Jets win this game i want everyone to email chris rose and ask him how he likes us now
-
1 more hour and its game time! Saints r going down, b the witness of this inctredible defense! Remember fellaz, defense wins games and we got a hell of a defense…I predict a sack or 2 from vernon 2day!
-
you will get a sack or two but the saints are’nt goin’ down today… saints 30, jets 17
-
Well – I predicted Saints27 – Jets 10, so enough said on that subject!
A few observations nevertheless:
1) This was a bit more difficult than I anticipated, but as predicted – Saints defense is no slouch. Jets are not a complete enough team to beat the Saints at home or away.
2) Payton’s offensive play calling was below par today. I don’t know what he was thinking on some of his calls, but I forgive him of course.
3) I give credit to Jets Defense – impressive.
4) Sanchez has a lot of growing up to do. You can’t be a leader with that kind of body language on the sideline – like a kid who’s parents didn’t buy him gum at the checkout counter. Pathetic! Saints defense took him back to school.
5) Bring on the Giants – We’ll have them for dessert.
6) And you guys actually thought you were Gonna Beat Dem Saints! What kind of mushrooms are you guys snacking on? Maybe you can give the Dolphins or Browns a good fight – they’re more on your level.

Chris Rose seems like he is getting paid to troll.
Who cares, let him rally any of the remaining ignorant Saints fans that have not yet been excited for this game.
Any sensible Saints fan knows that everybody is looking at this game as a potential classic. They won’t pay any attention to this type of garbage, and still will root for their team as best they can.
