Kellen Clemens is happy…but ready

By Corey Griffin on 04. Oct, 2009

Look, it can’t be easy to be Kellen Clemens. The guy was passed over once again after a training camp competition. Regardless of how you feel about his talent, that kind of stuff sucks. But Clemens is happy for the man who beat him out, Mark Sanchez, and if anything should happen to Sanchize, Kellen is keeping himself good and ready.

“I’m a play away,” he said. “Heaven forbid [Sanchez] goes down and I have to go in, but I know that Schottenheimer isn’t going to back off the playbook, and I wouldn’t want him to.”

Clemens would never wish an injury on Sanchez and is fully committed to doing whatever it takes to make sure the rookie is prepared for every game. That includes suppressing the frustration he felt at not getting the job in training camp.

“I wasn’t angry, just disappointed because I wanted to play,” Clemens said. “I still want to play, but I understand the situation and I understand that Mark’s an important player. Once I got over myself, I went back to working hard. That’s really all I know how to do.”

Kellen gets it and he could have had a much worse attitude after losing the job to Sanchez (see: Garcia, Jeff). It’s that kind of attitude and work ethic that make him a valuable backup and mentor to Sanchez. Although if he’s playing this season, that would mean bad things — so let’s just hope he keeps preparing, but not executing.

Hold the horse poop! Not so fast….the man (Sanchez) is damn good. Are you kidding me ? This is the headliner. Look at it this way…we them down, we can shut anybody down……we actually lost to that *****-*** team. Damn!… I was surprised by Pierre Thomas though. I never took him seriously.

Get beat by NO?…Are you serious? Take away Colston (a la Revis) and their WR core is average at best; Brees make them look good, ever since his days in Purdue and them 500yd. games. Their defense is mediocre at most…Hell yeah! I expected a win. Your a senior citizen JETS fan….Revisisbeast.

I agree with Le’Sean. The Saints didn’t impress me.Lance Moore and Devery Henderson were nowhere to be seen. Pierre Thomas and Bush are okay rb’s and Revis made Colston dissapear. Brees clearly looked frustrated. The Jets offense has alot of work to do but what can we expect with a rookie QB and a weak running game. Let’s get past this game and look forward to next week.

If we are going to lose a game, then its this type of game.
On the road against a solid NFC team.

The defense showed a number of times how good it can be. The 2 4th down stops were great.

2 things I didnt like about this game
    1) Schottys play calling
    2) Gholston poor play against the run. Now that Pace is back, he has to be relegated to special teams.

I thought the play calling on offense was awful.
Can anyone tell me why the the Jets did not pound the ball down New orleans throat? You have a rookie qb playing in a hostile enviroment. You have a 3 headed running attack. You have an excellent defense. Why not play close to the vest? Sanchez is going to be a very good qb, but he is not yet John Elway. Play to your strength. Rex came here and said we were going to run the ball and play D. We did half of that today.

    Mr Corey Griffin

Who cares about what Clemen feels. You’re about 5 weeks late with this story.

Now to the present. Tough game. Our defense is great .. Sanchez needs to go back to square one. Honestly, I’m happy he got it out of his system this game.

We better start opening it up ! I love what I saw from our rookie RB. TJ isn’t getting the job done.

Hang tight guys. It’s not a bad lost .. We’ll build from here. Loving our DEFENSE

Maybe we did not pound the ball down their throats because we couldn’t. You have to remeber there are two teams on the field and both want to win. There seems to be a problem with our running game—and something that needs to be resolved.

The OL is not as good as advertised. Stuckey has shown little. Sanchez is a rookie and it showed today. he is a class act and will rebound. BUT so is Clemens a class act and he will get a shot with another team next year and I wish him well.

As long as they beat Miami this game means nothing to me but a learning experience for MS… the Jets weren’t going 13-0 and this is the only tough game from now to week 14 — so this loss makes sense. Pretty much means nothing. Let’s get the Dolphins next week and put our stamp back on the AFC East, and go 8-0 at home while we’re at it with our crowd noise.

Actually NamVetJet the Jets averaged 4.9 a carry today. That is pretty good by most standards. Leon touched the ball a grand total of 8 times on offense. Unacceptable.

ONE OF THE REAZON WE LOST IZ THEY STOPPED THE RUN AND MADE US THROW.. AND EVERYONES GIVIN UP ON JONES WHEN ITS NOT HIS FAULT..

    04. Oct, 2009 at 9:00 pm #

The average may have been 4.9 but I was not impressed. It has been 4 games now where the running attack has been less than stellar. Maybe giving the ball to Leon more will improve things. I also liked the way Greene ran today. I don’t think that the problem is with the backs—-backs aint worth a damn without a line.

This is no big deal, we lost to a real good team and and NFC team no less, it means nothing because, if any of us thought we were going to get a 16-0 season with a rookie QB and coach well they are the over optimistic Jet fan, We still have Sheppard and Pace coming back and we have an extra day to prepare for the Fins, but if we lose to the FIns, then we have a problem.

    hank,
This is 1 game that if we lost, I wouldve been fine with it.

I’m not blaming Schotty. However, it wouldve been a much closer game had we tried to run the ball on those 3rd and 1′s

    04. Oct, 2009 at 9:06 pm #

True the line was awful in pass blocking today. But the N.O. defense did nothing to show me that they could stuff the run. Why not make them stop it…soften them up and then look to do some play action.

That’s ok, but, I can trully feel the whole gang (tremor) starting to build against Schotty.

    04. Oct, 2009 at 9:36 pm #

I think Schotty called a lousy game. If the Jets identity the rest of the season is going to have Sanchez go out and sling it….we are going to be in trouble. You are built to run the ball. Run it. The defense is great, keep them somewhat fresh. Play ball control. Unless Leon was playing on a broken leg there is no reason he should touch the ball only 8 times.

    04. Oct, 2009 at 9:39 pm #

    mistakes:
    1:schotts play calling
2:sanchez rookie mistakes (ok better to mess up here than at miami)
    3: jones running
4:LW did not get the ball much
5:taking shonn greene out when he was kicking ass
    6:pass blocking

defense did amazing. we held the #1 offense to one touchdown. without pace, sheppard, and strickland

    04. Oct, 2009 at 9:41 pm #

Shonn Greene came out with a tweaked ankle or he definitely would have gotten more touches. Any other injuries that anyone’s aware of?

I caught a lot of flak for sitting Drew Brees in Fantasy this week in favor of Shaun Hill… but man, our defense is as-advertised.

Just the ofense needs to start doing something, they have looked weak all season (Pretty good against the Titans last week, and not bad against the Texans, but a lot has to do with great field position every time).

However, I do hope the word about us tampering with Crabtree are real (Just never proven…) I would not mind having that man on the team if someone doesn’t step up!!!!!

i say we trade jones for either a DE, WR, or maybe draft picks

than bring up danny woodhead from the practice squad

Man if anyone and i mean anyone ever ? this defense again this year then the just needs to be castrated. Man where in the hell is Clowney. Why wont they play this kid Now granted i’m not in that locker room, but if this kid has the burners then why not put him out there? If even to run clear-out routes. At least give the impression that you’ll throw it deep. Dude that posted earlier, “Cotchery is good not great”. That “Great” word isnt something that you throw around all willy-nilly.

Where in JESUS is this O-line. I mean Brick wow?, is this the “i’m going to make the Pro Bowl” D-brick, that Will Smith (Not M.I.B. Will Smith), but this slack beat him to the outside on speed rushes, not powe, just speed. Damn man! And as for Woody, wow bro! This is the second game in a row that I saw you just whiff on blocks. Charles Grant, c’mon man what the f*@k. We really stunk it up today. Schotty where was the play-calling all game. It doesnt hurt to lose this game, it just sucks w/ the lack of execution. thats the part that hurts.

Let it burn though fellas, let it fuel you for the coming weeks. Never thought 16-0, but 12-4 wins divisions.

like i said yesterday…i wasn’t worried about the DEF…i was worried about our OFF and the play calling…and it showed today…shotty is an average OC at best… kentucky jet is right…our O-LINE isnt as good as advertised…they must fix whatever problems they are having fast…even though sanchez is a rookie he has to take alot better care of the ball…but i dont blame him for the loss…that is on shotty almost entirely…i was angry at the loss becuz we beat ourselves…if sanchezs doesn’t hand over 14 points our DEF. holds NO to no points…but we’ll never know…i know my thoughts are all over the place but they are my thoughts…

I agree with what most of u are saying we got beat to a very good team but its and NFC team which means nothing to me and I never did expect the jets to go 16-0 but when I watched that New England game and then went thru the schedule I seen a 14-2 team and one of those losses was to the saints maybe I am thinking a little to highly of the JETS but its hard not to when ur a fan. Then after I seen the Colts yesterday I still think we could be a 13-3 team this year because I don’t think the falcons will beat us (if we keep playing like this and Sanchez truely learned something from yesterday) our other 2 losses I think will come from Indy and the 2nd New England game. Does anyone agree?
