Jay Feely wants Retribution

Jay Feely was a reliable kicker for the Dolphins before they inexplicably let him go. He made 91.3% of his field goals yet with no alarm, ryhme or reason Jay Feely found himself on the waiver wire come the end of the season. Now back in Miami on Monday night Feely would like nothing more than to be a part of knocking off the struggling Fins.

“I would love to be a part of knocking off the Dolphins this week,” he said.

Jets running back Leon Washington remembers checking Feely’s statistics when the Jets signed him. He saw Feely made 21-of-23 field goal attempts with the Dolphins the year before and wondered why Feely was not still kicking in Miami.

… Coach Rex Ryan said he could understand the Dolphins not bringing Feely back “if you’ve got Lou ‘The Toe’ Groza coming in, maybe.”

Jay Feely has been more than reliable after coming in for the injured Mike Nugent at the start of the 2008-2009 season. Feely has hit 88% of his field goals as a Jet and 81.8% as a career total [and believe me he has come a long way since the start of his career]. These numbers suggest that Feely is one of the better, more reliable kickers in the league.

Despite Bill Parcells so called “problems” with Feely he hasn’t giving us much trouble here on the Green side of the Meadowlands and now Feely has the chance to show Parcells just how much he underestimated the kicker back in 2007.

  1. An average player who gets the job done. At the kicker position, that’s surprisingly hard to find in this league. Unless the phins kicker shanks a 20 yarder and Feely makes a 60 yard boomer with :05 to go, Parcells probably won’t lose any sleep over this.

  2. Parcells is never real big on kickers to start and feely can’t keep his big mouth shut, hence this article.

He was let go for being a loud mouth and was easily replaced by a rookie who is doing fine.

  3. Parcells going to release Crowder for his mouth?

Can’t wait to beat the dolphins!!!!!!!!!

  4. Honestly, Parcells helped to turn the Jets around when he came here, but he also made some poor personel decisions here too. Overall he was a plus, but I think he’s a bit over-rated.

What he excelled at was bringing in very good front office and coaching staff. His record as a coach was not great without bellichick running the D. I don’t think he’s great at judging player talent except those who have played for him that he already knows can get the job done.

  5. I dont know what everyone else here is talking about but when it comes to football there is God, Vince Lombardi and Bill Parcells. He is the best thing that ever happened to this organization. Not only did he take us to the AFC title game, he brought in my fav Jet of all time, Curtis Martin, and his drafts and free agents signings set us up to have playoff teams when the Good Rev. Dr. Herm Edwards was here.

The thing with Feely was that although he was a good kicker, he was a bit on the expensive side and talked a bit more openly than most kickers would, especially ones from Parcells- lead teams. Bottom line with Bill is, you are what your record is. They were 1-15 the year before, no matter what Feely’s stats were, it didnt help translate to wins. He sent a message to everyone else, its Bill Parcells show now and no one is safe.

By the way, Belichick would never have even sniffed the NFL had it not been for Bill Parcells. He took him on as an unknown, saw talent in him and made him his D cord on the 86 Giants. He got him his first gig in Cleveland, and after he screwed that up, he saved his behind again when he brought him here. We had a killer D in 98 and that got the Pats attention. Belichick owes his career to Parcells. That first Patriot Super Bowl winner was a carbon copy of the 90-91 Giants. And he acts like he knew the man for 3 months at a summer football camp.

Of course everyone will bring up Dallas, but he was old and unhealthy in those years, even though he got them back to playoffs for the 1st time in like 10 years or so, he just couldnt handle the grind of an NFL head coach and the age difference between him and his players made it impossible for him to relate to them. Oh yea he got force fed Terrell Owens by Jerry Jones, nuff’ said

The man takes terrible football teams and almost over-night makes them credible and playoff-bound. He didnt take every team to the SB, but they were always alot better off after he left them. It’s not just in Miami, its everywhere. Its also tough to find coaches who good players will follow wherever he goes.

  6. Oh yea and I like Feely, he s grown up a lot and is a solid, steady pro back there kicking the rock

  7. the fins are in for an a** kicking can’t wait.

  8. Eddie D…..Well said brother….

  9. Ha, I love how ppl lose their objectivity and see somebody as a God after they leave. Like he never made any mistakes. Yeah right, he was perfect. lol

Reminds me of a friend I had who had an abusive dad. Used to get drunk and beat the hell outta him, his bro, and his mom all the time. Well, after his dad died you couldn’t say a bad thing about his dad even though it was the truth because all of a sudden he lost all perspective and his old man was the greatest guy ever. Yet before his dad died he hated him with a passion and him and his bro used to fight their dad (physically) all the time and call him an A-hole.

    I’m 6′7″, & about 325 lbs. nowadays, but never worked on a barge,,,..lol!!!

  14. is it just me or is Jay Feely really jacked? Aren’t kickers supposed to be of the tall lanky nature? Feely looks like he could inflict some damage lol…
