Link: Beware Of The Wake
As I pointed out on the show this past week, there’s a Miami pass rusher to be on the look out for Monday night — and he’s not the ones you would think of normally. Miami signed CFL product Cameron Wake during the summer and his signing got some notoriety because of Wake’s ridiculous numbers north of the border (Seriously — 39 sacks in 2 years?!).
Well, after spending two weeks inactive and one getting used to the NFL, Wake exploded for 3 sacks last week starting for Joey Porter. This week, though, even with Porter back, the Dolphins are planning to showcase their newest LBing beast.
Against San Diego in Week 3, the Dolphins used a defensive package that would accommodate three pass-rushers on passing downs. Wake, 27, played only sparingly in that game but had six solo tackles against the Bills, showing the talent he displayed at Penn State and in Canada.
“I’ve been around a long time and he does things that amaze me,” Taylor said. “He does things that Joey and I can’t do right now.”
Taylor, 35, said he and Porter, 32, marvel while watching film of their fellow outside linebacker. Wake’s combination of strength, speed and agility – “those good knees, that good cartilage,” Taylor said – are reminiscent of Porter and Taylor in their prime.
I didn’t know much of Wake when he was at Penn St. (maybe Bent can help us out with a report) but after he signed with the Dolphins I read up on him a bit this summer and thought he had a chance to make an impact this year, just for pure pass-rushing skills alone. After we saw Mark Sanchez become shark bait at the hands of some of the Saints’ pressures, it’ll be key the Jets find a way to block the new guy in the Dolphins’ pressure schemes.

I think Damien and lito both questionable, but damien is expected to play, lito is iffy. strickland is almost definitely out. j-co also questionable with a hammy but the recovery extra day won’t hurt.
thanks. I just figured that J-co would be questionable for monday and I still think he’s going to play but in a limited role.

Cam Wake did very well in the CFL. I cannot remember what his actual first name is but IIRC Cam is his middle name for those trying to find his college stats. I think he was a bit of a late bloomer. I also think he may have been in some NFL team’s camp before he went to the CFL but not being a BC Lions fan, I don’t know which.
I am a long time Canadian Steelers fan. I started cheering for them before they drafted Franco Harris. Between my teen-age sons growing interest in football (one is a Jets fan and the other cheers for the Packers) and my own interest in players with Canadian connections in the NFL I started reading various blogs about Canadian rookies in the NFL (Jamaal Westerman, Vaughn Martin and Jamaal Lee) as well as following Izzy Idonije (who went to University here).
This is my first time posting here. It is a great blog with a lot of great contributors and commentors.
For Cam Wake try looking under Derek Wake… I am certain it is the same guy.

Correct. Derek Wake is a guy who had a 5th round grade after a strong combine and an even better pro day but was not drafted. At that time he was only 236 pounds so really only on the radar of 4-3 teams unless as a long term prospect.
The giants released him after having picked him up as a udfa and he was dominant in cfl. We don’t get cfl in the uk any more, but I did see him destroy the Argos for 3 sacks in the season opener in 2007.
In college he was productive, as a 4-3 olb and de on passing downs, but was overshadowed by hali and posluszny.
He isnt as good as Gholston
