Buzz: Will Jerricho Cotchery Play?

by Bassett on October 12th, 2009 at 2:06 pm

In case you were wondering or not whether Jerricho Cotchery is planning on playing tonight, Hutch reported yesterday that the team’s wide receiver made the trip to Miami.

The team flew down to Miami in the early afternoon on Sunday for tomorrow’s prime-time game against the Dolphins.

Cotchery, the Jets’ leading receiver with 23 receptions for 356 yards and one TD, has undergone hours of treatment over the past several days. The extra day should bode well for his chances of playing. Cotchery has told friends he expects to play.

The short week could come back to bite him next week depending on how the game goes, but that Cotchery is telling his friends he expects to play means that the only thing from keeping him on the field is his coach. If he plays, Cotchery could benefit quickly from Edwards’s addition, as the new WR acclimates to the team.

He will play unless he tweaks it in warmups. More importantly, Kerry Rhodes?

Low contact routes like curls and deep posts seem more feasible at this point. The guy thrives going across the middle and turning short slants up the middle but it doesn’t seem like it’s worth the risk. Keller, Hartsock and Washington should be able to provide Sanchez with all the quick, short-route passing he needs.

word is Rhodes status not in doubt – he is fine ready to go

The other thing is at least it’ll be warm in Miami, so J-Co should be able to keep the leg loose. If this were a December game in Buffalo, I’d be more concerned.

The smart move would have Cotchery play on a limited basis opposite Edwards tonight, and Clowney and Smith will most likely split the reps when Cotchery is resting.

I’m sure Ryan and Shotty will probably J-Co at 100% for Buffalo next week in order to help Edwards face the home crowd for the first time.

maybe the jets should not use cotchery the few drives to see how the o performs without him and if they do bad then put him in…he may be good to play but i would hate for him to make this worse if he dont have to

Let’s hope Cotchery gets pulled from the game at the half because of the lopsided lead.

BTW, Ferraro has a good point about a December game in Buff, and this Sunday’s game at home is a 4:15 start, which will feel like December once the sun goes down at halftime. Not good.

Here’s a good question for ya:

I have Cotchery and Edwards on my roster…Who do you start???

I am only up 1 point and i am playing against greg camarillo and Fins Defense….a catch is whole 1 point as well…..who has a better game?

  9. avatar Row says:

Tough call, Jason. With Cotchery not 100% I would go with Edwards. At least you know Edwards is healthy. Normally, I would go Cotch all the way but Edwards is less of a risk in fantasy terms tonight.

i have the same issue on my team having both edwards and cotchery, but from past experience I’m going with edwards bc i know how it feels to see your player play the first series than sit out the rest of the game due to “stiffness” and get you zero points

  11. avatar Jason says:

Yup thats what i figured….Cotch has been great for me this year so far but its a tough risk not being 100%….Well lets see what edwards has to offer, anything should be better than the goose egg he gave me last week LOL

  12. avatar Chachi says:

I have Cotchery on my fantasy lineup tonight. However I have D.Bess on my bench. I rather start Cotchery (because I hate all Fin players), but I am up only 15 pts (the guy I am playing has R.Brown). Who do you think I should start? Cotchery or Bess?

  13. avatar Neon Leon 29 says:

Start Cotch, he will do work tonight, at least I’m hoping so, I am down 15 points with Cotchery starting and Ted Ginn on my bench, also my opponent has Chad Henne starting (due to a 10 team 2 quarterback league with byes kicking in), I am hoping the Jets D rattles Henne for a few turnovers, negative points, Cotch catches 2 TD’s or something. I can hope can’t I? hahaha

  14. avatar GANGGREEN says:

I’m up 11 points and have L.Washitngton tonight while my fantasy opponent is out of players…GO LEON GO JETS….

  15. avatar James in TN says:

down 39 cause i didn’t play roddy white and I started freaking cooley over keller. All I have is Leon. I need a career game Neon Leon. What if we run the seminole all night long, lol.
